Poor customer service/ Poor return policy. I try to go to small local stores whenever possible, however in Harvey's case I will never return! I bought a small drill for a quick job in Needham, however, when I got the drill back to the job the chuck was stuck. I didn't have time to fiddle with it so I put it back in the packaging and moved on. A couple of weeks later I tried to return it, unused, in the original packaging, with the receipt. Not only would they not refund my money or issue a store credit, they accused me of using the tool and trying to return it.... very abrasive and unfriendly.

Unfortunately, Harvey's make the larger retail stores very attractive and hassle free.

A Toy Store For Men & Women. l want a kitchen step stool that will be convenient, the right height, and safe and stable. There it is - several models and l got the COSCO brand - perfect. l see stove drip pans-bright, shiny- my wife loves the new stove top look. The fireplace chimney needs cleaning - the creosote log helps beautifully in cutting down smoke smells. l want a brown colored waterproof tarp to cover the fireplace wood - there it is. The small round batteries l need, the paint supplies l need, the unusual bolt for compressed wood shelf-it is there.

A great atmosphere with fun, supportive, knowledgeable folks. Thank You

Amazing local hardware store. Harvey's is AMAZING. there is no other word for it. They are nice people who are always willing to help. They're all fairly knowledgeable and offer valuable suggestions. The only thing I personally don't like about the store is the tight space, but the trade off is that they have EVERYTHING for sale. I'm always surprised when I find random things there. But if you ever need something... check Harvey's first. best of all... they're local!

Not customer friendly. I've been going to Harvey's for years because I want to support the local guy when I can. However, since Harvey has stepped down and Gary took over, the customer friendly attitude and service has gone down hill.

I bought two pieces of hardware but didn't use them and returned them two days later. I asked for a refund (it was for 8 dollars) and was told by Gary that "store policy" is to issue a credit without a receipt. When I pleaded that I come in quite often and would like an exception, he reiterated, without apology, that was store policy. This is what I expect from a large box store, or if it had been used or without the stickers. But part of the value of the local hardware store is that they know you and help you out. I understand having a policy in place, and I also understand losing a customer because you won't make an exception to the policy. I will now use Green's in Wellesley or Lowes in Dedham - it's too bad that Harvey's lost a customer over 8 bucks.
