I found this place on City Search after having tried MANY salons in Newton and on Newbury Street. I thought it was a risk to go someplace where i didn't know anyone who had been there. I couldn't be happier I took that chance. This place is so friendly and down to earth. Jenny gives the best cuts and is fabulous with color. You always feel welcomed. They really want their customers to be satisfied with everything. I never have to wait to be taken. Everyone walks out looking really good. Run don't walk to J. Stevens.

Jamie is my stylist at J Stevens salon and I have been completely happy with the look of the cuts and highlighting he has given me. I have complete confidence in him because he has made my formerly sad and boring brown hair look beautiful! I get a lot of compliments from family and friends. Admittedly, there are plenty of salons between my home and J Stevens but I have found my perfect match here so the drive is worth it. Besides Jamie's skill, perfectionism and aesthetic sense, he is warm and open and friendly which makes the whole experience a pleasure. Stop in; you won't regret it!

I've been going to J. Stevens for a couple of years now. What a lovely place to relax, enjoy an afternoon, and leave looking just fabulous. Salon is clean, staff is professional, service is ON POINT! I have been going to MARIANNE K. as my stylist for many years 5+. Prior to that I was on Newbury St., Kenmore, everywhere...I have course, curly, pretty hair, but noone could cut it and the color always looked brassy and overprocessed. One day I ran into someone in the parking lot of Bread and Circus. She had the most beautiful hair I had ever seen. Her hair was cut beautifully and the color was phenomenal. I HAD to have her hairdresser. I ran to her like a wild woman. Soon I was in MARIANNE'S chair. There I will stay. If you want the greatest color and cut you've ever had from the ultimate professional - call Marianne NOW! Your days of "hairdresser shopping" are over!!

Pros: Always received exactly what I wanted/great value

When I moved here from L.A. I did not know that my hairdresser would be the person I missed the most. And, until I found Jonathan and J. Stevens, I had spent a long time looking for a good "fit". That was around 5 years ago and I am definitely a fan and loyal customer of this place.

I went to this salon because I saw all the great reviews on this site. When I got there I could immediately tell this wasn't the kind of place I go to and the clientelle was a little older (everyone there was 40's and up). My stylist was definetly the nicest one I've ever had and really wanted to make sure I got the cut I wanted, but I have to say I was dissapointed. I think this is a great salon for people 30+ but if you're looking for something a bit younger and hip I would reccomend going elsewhere. I actually stayed thinking I'd get a cheaper cut, but I ended up paying the same as I do at my favorite Newbury St. salons.

I recently went to J. Stevens Salon after reading the GREAT reviews on Citysearch. I've never seen such great reviews and a 10 rating!! Jonathan did my hair and is AMAZING!! He listened to my concerns and gave me his expert opinion. He knew exactly what I wanted and I walked out of there looking how I've always wanted my hair to look. Finally, I have found someone! I have been to numerous hairdressers in Boston over the last 5 years - Newbury St. and all. Jonathan is the best! He give great tips too - blowdrying, color etc. A true expert...

Pros: Great cuts, color, expertise, experience...

I have gone to Marianne for over 15 years to have my hair styled and colored. When she had recently moved from the salon she had been at for 25 years I must say I was concerned but happy for her progress. At J. Stevens she has excelled in every way. She is still by far the best stylist I have been to and my colors she has given me are exquisite! Thank you Marianne and all of you at J. Stevens I look forward to coming in to your salon every time.

This is an amazing place. I have never had such an wonderful time. I made the mistake of trying a Newbury Street salon simply because I was in town and it was the place to be. Do not waste your time!! Go where the service is great and the staff will truly work to please you. I cannot believe their attention to detail and their determination to see you leave happy. It is the best place to go for a color, cut or just a boost to your self esteem.

Pros: Everything...there is nothing that does not excel

This is the Best of Boston. I do not care what anyone else says or what other salons are touted as the place to be. The staff here is phenomenal and they want to work with you. You are never an inconvenience and always welcome. There is nothing like having a stylist who wants to be working on your hair. From color to cut to products, they are honest and forthcoming. They want you to be happy and will bend over backwards to make sure that you are. I have been to dozens of salons form Manhattan to LA and I never get better service than that at J Stevens. Go there and I guarantee you will never be disappointed.

Pros: Easy Parking unlike anywhere else and a staff that clearly loves what they do

Cons: Hard pressed to find one

I have been getting facials since I was 14 and was searching for someone that used a more European method. After trying all the pricey salons on Newbury and the suburbs, I finally found Mia. She recently sold her place and joined J Stevens. If a Saturday is what you are looking for, book far in advance. Expect a great facial and fabulous skin without the high-pressure sales pitch. Mia is the best!

Pros: Facials are affordable, off-street parking
