I sent my car there after a friend diagnosed a bad alternator because my battery wouldn't charge and the car is less than 3 yrs. old. I asked them for a quote before they did any work. They called to tell me that the battery was just no good and they replaced it, which was fine but they charged me $70 in labor to replace a battery and they gave me different stories about what the battery cost. I told them that Sears installed for free and I would only pay for $20 in labor. They finally agreed to let me pay less than they asked after 20 minutes of arguing. Then they tried to say that the labor cost was for the oil change and I said that they had quoted me the cost of the oil change up front and I assumed that was including labor, which they finally agreed to. I had to tell them either I would pay what I thought was fair, or they could take out the battery and I would take it to sears. I also asked for a quote for them to fix the track on my seat and the mechanism on my window and they forgot to quote me so I just left it alone. They did get the job done on time and at least took the initiative to change the battery, but they should have called me first to quote me as I requested, in writing, and they shouldn't have overcharged me. Stay away!

Cons: Dirty, difficult to deal with, overcharged, forgot specific instructons that were written

My water pump went out in New Haven, CT, so I had to have it repaired down there. While it was down there, they offered to chang the timing chain as well. I figured the car was pretty up there in miles, and that wouldn't be a bad idea. When I left the New Haven shop, it was running really rough, and they told me it had transmission problems. After returning to Boston, I took my car over to Diaz's and explained my situation. After checking various things, he decided he had to check the work they had done. He found out that the place in New Haven had made a mistake with the timing chain alignment. He could have charged me a lot of money for the time and work, but I actually ended up paying him extra because I didn't think he was asking for enough money. They're very good at making things run longer and evaluating problems on older vehicles. Brush up on your Spanish before heading over here. You feel like you're in a Latin American taller.

Pros: Honest

Cons: Ambience

This is an honest and efficient car repair shop . . . sometimes hard to find in the auto repair business. I brought my car in, sure that I had major problems. It turned out to be only a few minor fixes. Most car shops would have taken advantage of my ignorance and charged me hundreds of dollars for repairs that I didn't really need. One Caveat: it does tend to cater more to the Latin American culture, so make sure that you brush up on your high school spanish before you go:)

Diaz's Auto is tucked away in an unassuming locale in Waltham, right where good, old repair shops are supposed to be (this isn't the Benz dealership!). It's not the cleanest joint, but Mr. Diaz is the most clean, er honest, mechanic I have ever met. I thought my clutch was gone. He told me it was not the clutch, but my fluid level (stupid, me). I thought my starter was bad and he called AutoZone for me because my starter was still under warranty. I know most mechanics would have billed for a complete repair and replacement of both parts. I wish there were more auto shops like this around. Truly a gem. Habla Spanish.

Pros: Honest, Friendly, Inexpensive

Cons: Dirty
