I went there with the hopes to get some measurements for a groomsmen suit that I need to get in Korea for a wedding. The lady behind the counter said I don't take measurements, regardless of the measuring tape wrapped around her neck. I tried to tell her that I would pay just for her to measure me, but still no go. Kind of a bizarre experience. I'm still shaking my head at it. This was the first time being at a tailor where I didn't buy the clothes from. But the lady's attitude was extremely poor and unhelpful. I don't know how their finished product is, but I wouldn't recommend this place.

i live in brookline and have generally gone to benny, and have not had any problems with the tailoring. however, lately i brought in several items which he told me could not be fixed - he did not have the special kind of thread, or the problem was not fixable. although i appreciate his honesty, i was a little put off when he could not, or would not, recommend any other tailor in boston who might be able to fix my clothes. lo and behold, i found alan rouleau (tailor on newbury street), and brought my clothes to him - he was able to fix my items at a reasonable cost and they look great. so in summary, benny is fine for your neighborhood tailor, and he does a good job - but if he tells you "no," then try alan rouleau on newbury street.

Pros: a good neighborhood tailor, convenient for those who live in brookline

Cons: cannot fix difficult tailoring problems

Based on a friend's rec., I drove 45 minutes to take my clothes to Benny and it was all worth it. He has done adjustments on bridesmaids dresses for me, suit tailoring, and even turned a size 12 Raulph Lauren black label suit into a size 8 for me. At some point I went through my closet and brought him all the things I did not wear because of the fit--including a great vintage jacket of my grandmother's. I always keep the tags on my clothes until taking them to Benny as he once told me that there was no hope working on a particular skirt and that I should take it back. He has waited for me and stayed open while I ran 4 blocks for cash and he has done a few great rush jobs for me. While I have had bits of things that were not perfect perfect, I have VERY high standards and am EXTREMELY picky and I would still highly recommend Benny.

Pros: Service, attention, results

Cons: cash only, expensive

In summary, I had 5 pairs of expensive pants ($80+ each) that needed to be hemmed. I'm 5' tall so this is usually a painful and risky task. The last thing I needed was a bad hem job. So I looked up reviews of local tailors and Benny's stood out. His resume (he worked at Louis' of Boston for 14 years--handpicked by them for his work in Hong Kong) and reviews stood out among all others. However, Brookline is not convenient to me...but I needed top notch hemming because of my investment in these pants. Long story short, I just picked up my pants/jeans yesterday and I couldn't be happier with Benny's work on all 5 pairs. As he and his wife stressed to me, the quality of his work would be worth the extra price (about double what a typical dry cleaner would charge), and he was correct. After all, there's nothing worse than ruining an $80 pair of work pants with a bad $10 hem job that makes them essentially unwearable. On a side but important note, I'd also like to add that Benny and his wife were so friendly, which was a lovely surprise. Benny's clients include Bob Kraft and John Henry, so I just assumed they would treat me with little courtesy or kindness. I was very wrong. Therefore, I have nothing but the nicest things to say about this business, and if I ever need anything done, from the most complex tailoring to the simplest tailoring, I will absolutely bring it to Benny's and recommend him to any and all are looking for a true craftsman.

Pros: Talented craftsman who couldn't be nicer and more meticulous

Cons: Brookline traffic/irritating location

I have taken two bridesmaid dresses to Benny, one a 3 layer chiffon/satin floor length dress to be hemmed and another dress to be taken in on the top. I was with some hesitation as I knew he was known for his men's suit taloring but didn't know where else to go. I was not dissapointed. Although I was nervous waiting for them to be done as he didn't take one measurment while fitting me both dresses came out beautiful and I will definitely bring Benny all of my alterations in the future. Both dresses took about 2-3 weeks to be done and the prices were very reasonable compared to some bridal shops. I highly recommend Benny!

Benny is the best tailor I have ever used. He is a master craftsman who is also personable and honest. I shop at Louis of Boston, Alan Belzarian, and other high end establishments. When I mention Benny's name every one has the highest praise for him and his work. Benny has not only done an outstanding job with everything I've given him, he has also advised me to not spend the money on his services when the work would result in something less than perfect due to the nature of the alterations required. For example, I bought 2 suits recently that the salesman told me were fine --but they were too wide in the shoulders and Benny advised me to return them since no adjustment will remedy the problem. He actually didn't want to take the money because he wanted me to wear only that which could be made to fit perfectly. Bennie has also taken the time to explain to me the kind of cuts that would most flatter my body (and why). In short, Benny is an exacting and masterful tailor and an honest and decent man whom one can trust. I'd like to keep him a secret but the last review was so far of I decided to post my own.

I recently had a few pairs of pants altered by Benny. He did a nice job, expect for one pair. In that case, one leg was longer than the other by almost an inch. For trousers, that's a big difference. But Benny's a professional - he immediately acknowledged his mistake and corrected the problem. They were ready the next day, free of charge. But for someone who touts his reputation so proudly, and who charges such high prices (each pair was $25 for a basic hem!), the problem I encountered was unexpected. I guess I'd go back to Benny - but only for specialized tailoring. For basic alterations, he's too pricey. And his service, while definitely superior, isn't perfect.

I took a suit that I recently purchased to Benny for tailoring. There was an extensive amount of work that needed to be done to the suit. The suit fit like a glove when I picked it up. Benny was also very personable and attentitve. I will be taking all my alterations to Benny from now on.

Pros: Service, Quality

Cons: Cost, Location

I brought Benny an expensive dress to alter and he did a wonderful job. He explained how he would have to maneuver alterations and what the costs would be. He and his wife are very friendly and the dress fits like a dream. He kept his promise of having it done by the date of the wedding and when I picked it up, the dress had also been steamed. A wonderful experience. I highly recommend him!

Pros: Parking, lights in the fitting room, clean floors

Although Benny Ho is known for his superb men's tailoring, he did an excellent job on my evening gown. I'm planning on taking all my future alteration needs to him. More impressive, however, was that he and his wife were so attentive and friendly that I felt like part of his family. I will never go to another tailor in Boston.
