Best Bakery in Brookline

I must admit I have only been to 2 bakery's in Brookline, Athan's being 1 of them. But this place has great cookies, great flavorful Gelato, great deserts to bring to parties, the bread selection is weak but great coffee and tea. Definitely worth checking out, you will not be dissapointed. It is true the staff is not the friendliest but the fodd does make up for it.

Best Dessert in Brookline

A perfect place for (relativly) late night desserts in Brookline - way better than Emacks. However, service never happens with a smile, and many times the staff makes you feel uncomfortable.

Very Rude Service

I found the young person behind the counter offensively rude and, much as I hate to say this, I suspect it may have had something to do with my ethnicity. This is not something one says lightly. She had an attitude from the moment I walked in and asked for help and she made a ridiculous comment during the course of the transaction. I have never been made so furious nor have I had to face such open ugliness in the progressive Brookline community that I have lived in for long. I deal (professionally) with young people all the time; this openly ugly incident was way beyond sullen youth.

I am a long time customer. I have chatted with the owner on occassion and he seems gracious enough. The desserts are also fine. But nothing is worth this kind of ugliness, specially in the neighborhood that I call home.

Athan's never disappoints! AMAZING!

I don't understand how anyone on this earth who has 5 senses can even begin to give this place even a moderately bad review. To set the record straight, I have been here many times, and am always beyond satisfied by quality of sweets, espresso drinks, and basically anything else they offer. I will admit that I like the Bolero (a small chocolate cake/torte/mousse dessert) so much that I haven't had a chance to try many of their other offerings. This place is perfect for a first date (and beyond) since is charming and romantic as it is casual and low-key. You really can't go wrong.

Their gelato is highly disappointing

The gelato was not kept cold enough, so that it was bordering on a liquid state as it was served and had completely lost any texture within minutes. In addition, most of the flavors I tried were almost unbearably sweet. This is definately not authentic.

Extremely Rude Service

I've been here on several occassions and the deserts have been fine. But, on two separate occassions I have ventured into the bakery with friends who have been visiting from out of town and the service has been horrible. The woman who works there is so rude beyond belief. The were completely unwilling to answer any questions and seemed bothered that we were even there. They treated us so poorly it was almost shocking. I will not visit this establishment again because they do not understand what good service is. Unless they hire new people to work at the counter, I do not recommend going here.

Great desserts in Brookline!

Athan's has the best desserts in town. Try the baklava and the black forest...outstanding.

Great selection of biscuits to have with coffee or tea.

Great European style in a Brookline corner.

I had my wedding cake made there and I got the best comments out of a beautiful and delicious black forest cake
