Edgier, less mainstream than its neighbor, Avalon, the feel here is more bombed-out basement than glitz.

The Scene
Stylish, trendy crowds that gravitate toward alternative, and loud, music. Don't expect pastel colors, laser shows and spinning balls. Do expect different, like Mondays, when it's gay night, featuring male go-go dancers. Not to be out-done, heterosexuals have their chance to party on Sunday, when amateur strip night begins at 11pm.
The Draw
DJ's spin alternative tunes from the '80s on Friday, while Saturday is taken over by the '90s and a live broadcast on WFNX. Soul and funk are featured during the week, with Wednesday reserved for live national and local acts. Beware of the college crowd. Axis opens its doors to anyone 19 and over on Monday through Friday.
AWESOME

I was at the Axis for a show in January and it was awesome! It was an awesome show which is probably why it added to the awesomeness of the place, but it was fun! The security gaurds were really nice and made the wait for the show more enjoyable. The parking was good because the sox were away, and the food wasnt bad. I definately think is was worth the 12 dollars it cost to get in!
Oh and yea it was crowded, but that adds to the fun!
- Pros: Good employees, Good atmosphere, Inexpensive
Not bad

Went there a few weeks ago on a Friday night. The crowd is decent and so are the drinks. Bartenders aren't very attentive though. The music was Hip Hop/Reggae which was really really good. You can also cross over to Avalon for free. Crowd was young and a little wild! I will be going back again.
- Pros: Great music (hip hop)
- Cons: Too Loud
Concerts are AWESOME at Axis!!
by disableddude617 at Citysearch
Disabled Dude here with the disability-facter review for todays disabled-man on the go! I went to Axis on July 23rd for the Taproot concert. AWESOME! If you love Heavy Metal or Alternative Rock, this concert was for you. The 3 opening acts were as hard as they come now-a-days. And Taproot had an awesome mosh-pit going. I kept yelling for the crowd to "CALM DOWN!" "YOU'RE OUT OF CONTROL!" but that was to be funny. Truth is if it wasn't for my bad hip I'd be in there! Women were cute too. Bathrooms were clean. Why do people hate this place?? It's a cool club. Like Bill's bar only bigger.
- Pros: Concerts ROCK!!, Waitresses real cool!, Crowd comes to party!
- Cons: needs more concerts, careful of mosh-pit
Fun but crowded
by angel4jd at Citysearch
One night a bunch of my friends decided to go here and they had an awesome atmosphere and great music. The things that sucked were that the bars were crowded and the place was packed. You couldn't even get on to the dance floor. I don't know if I would go back.
- Pros: good location
- Cons: crowded

This venue I have to say brings in the best DJS. I used to go to Axis twice a week, now I go when they bring the good names. You only go to this club if you DON't LiKE AVALON!! you go to avalon for atmosphere, axis for music!
- Pros: good music, good people
The Dungeon
by desdemonaorchid at Citysearch
Axis is usually defined as the trashier version of Avalon. Well, let's just safely say that it is much, much, much trashier. About the only thing the two have in common is that they are on Lansdowne Street. Not only is the place trashy (literally), but it actually even smells. The overall mood evoked is that of being in a dungeon, or an old basement, especially the sunken pit of a dance floor. The music is nothing to brag about either. For those of you who love grime, filth, goth, and grunge, you've found heaven at Axis. For all the rest of us, however, it's not worth any of your time or money. To put it succinctly, I've been to virtually every club in Boston, and Axis has to be one of the worst.
Boring... Repetitive..
by GregPoma at Citysearch
A friend and I decided to run down to Axis to see what's happening out in Boston on Friday nights... especially considering it was the weekend of graduation at MIT, Harvard, and a number of other universities in the area. We entered Axis to be greeted by the $20 cover, and soon found our way into a nearly-empty club with three people on the dance floor. I grabbed a Long-Island iced tea, my favorite, to find that it was 40% coke. They didn't even have MGD on tap! After that $12 experience, we headed out to the dance floor, to find that the dance beat was so repetitive it was boring! We wandered across to Avalon, which was connected by a door to Axis. Avalon was off the hook, and had awesome beats. We chilled there until well into the night, it was an awesome club.
- Cons: Expensive Drinks, Expensive Cover, Poor music
