I was there once: drinks were very weak and my glass was dirty. My white russian was just pure milk and ice cubes. The music was good, but the DJ was driving me crazy by changing songs every 10 sec!!!

I own a sports bar in another city and was on a fact finding mission to evaluate sports bars in other cities. I made a list of all the "Must See" sports bars in Boston and spent a week in Beantown looking at all the "Best of's". Several of the bars were nothing more than just places to watch the Red Sox. They could care less if you were from another town and wanted to watch something other than a local team. Others were "Sports Restaurants". One in particular--voted Best Of--was more like a Denny's with bad TV's. Some were just brew pubs with televisions. Cask 'n' Flagon has, by far, the set up for sports fans. With almost 40 plasmas out front and 5 projectors in the large party area in the rear (known as "Oliver's") they have the ability AND THE WILLINGNESS to put on the game of YOUR choice. The food is great. The Chef (not the fry cook) has done an outstanding job to give you a wide variety of choice cuisine. Now, I went in the fall/winter and I hear the line to get in can be long when the boys of summer return. All I can say is, GET THERE EARLY--it's worth it!

Cask was much better before the sold out, like stated above. However, their "bouncers" are ridiculous. They are on a total power trip and act like complete jerks to any guy that they are not friends with. I go there now as a last resort, or if I am w/friends that really want to go. Very poor customer service but still surviving on their name...
Pros: Close to Fenway
Cons: Bouncers, service

I'm a fan of the bigger Cask, allows for you to always get a seat somewhere without waiting long(when I've been there) and not have to wait too long for a drink. I haven't been there at super busy times, so I cant comment on that. Also not sure about the dancing in the back, I dont think I'd go to Cask for a dance scene...but definitely a nice spacious place to grab some drinks or watch a game. The food is definitely good too.

Although the new Cask looks nice, it is missing what it once had. I have been coming to this place for years and years but will not be returning anytime soon. You used to be able to get great service and good food, but I guess they didn't have room in the budget to keep those things. What was once a great staff that I looked forward to seeing is now just so so. The food used to be great and quick, now you have to wait 45 minutes for buffalo wings that are served colder than the beer is. Also, the atmosphere just ain't what it used to be. It seems like they are trying to cater to the upscale guest and forgot about what made the place great. If you are looking for a more casual atmosphere with great drinks and service I recommend heading down to Copperfields. It's the only place in the area that has yet to sell out and I hope that they don't anytime soon. For good food, head to Boston Beerworks or Game On(which the "new" Cask tried to copy, but failed miserably). Go Sox!!!
Pros: Looks nice
Cons: Poor service, poor food quality

I went to the Red Sox game last night and we all met up at the Cask 'n Flagon a couple hours before the game. This place is unlike any other in the neighborhood, every one that worked there could not do enough to make sure we had a GREAT time. The door staff, while being very thorough, were helpful and friendly. Once inside we were greated with the nicest waitress who was largly responsible for the enjoyable night we had. The lobster roll was awsome even though a little expensive at $13, and the hamburgers were the best around. To top it off, on our way out, two hours later, 3 different employees gave us a genuine "thank you" and "have a good night". The atmosphere was perfect and the employees made you feel welcome. The Cask is my only choice for Red Sox fans.
Pros: STAFF, ATMOSPHERE, FOOD
Cons: , NONE, BUT GET THERE EARLY

This place used to be good about one year ago when they had great deals (like Thursday night: buy a pitcher, get a free beer). Now this place is just like any other place. Except with very rude doormen. No one ever goes here except during Sox games, and this is only because it is right nextdoor to Fenway.

this place is THE place to be before/during/after a Red Sox game, but is still a great time during the offseason....they have a 22oz. bud light for $3!! and no cover
Pros: crowd, price, lots of space
Cons: nope

I miss hanging with the fellas at the Cask before the Sox games. Don't be intimidated by the line outside. It moves fast and is worth the wait. The staff is cognizant enough of game times to get you out the door for the first pitch. Remote beer stations keep the beverages flowing. Can't wait til next spring so I'll have to stop by to watch football now.
Pros: Fast service, great location, cost effective
Cons: none

one of the best bars to get into, if the line isn't too long, on gameday around fenway, other then that i wouldn't recommend it.
Pros: game day
Cons: no game day
