Upscale comfort food and BEST classic-style cocktails.

by sb_fido at Citysearch

My husband and I came across this place after reading a short interview in Boston Magazine which just briefly mentioned Green Street as a favorite local haunt. We decided to try it out on a whim and wow was that a lucky decision. I think the place used to do more Latin-vibed cuisine but now they are more "comfort food with a twist" and make sure you don't land on their old website but go to greenstreetgrill dot com. We went quite early on Saturday, around 5:30 PM and the place was very quiet. The drinks menu is wonderful, seasonal and well priced. You get a properly sized perfectly mixed drink, our bartender was EXCELLENT and knew the difference between stirring a drink and shaking one. The food was also great. We ordered the mussels as an appetizer and they are the best I've EVER had. A giant plate of perfectly seasoned mollusks, the broth was incredible, not to rich and made even more lovely by the sauteed leaks and sherry. For dinner, we shared the steak which was again, delicious though the "fries" which were more like big potato wedges were too crispy and dried out. Dessert was a Fort Washington Flip, a great fall drink with an egg. We loved this place so much, we were back again the following Saturday! This time we had the ribs as an appetizer and they were very good, not too spicy with a great smoky sauce and delicious corn bread. For dinner, it was the seared fish over succotash. A very interesting dish with vibrant green veggies in the succotash and perfectly cooked cod. We can't wait to go back again! And the super cheap parking next door makes going to a Cambridge eatery even easier.

  • Pros: Knowlegeable bar staff, excellent food
  • Cons: Might be tough to find, no sign!

Fantastic cocktails & service

by optimator at Citysearch

My experience at Green Street last night was so good I am compelled to share it with others. Seven of us headed over to GS for a "one more drink" but the cocktails were so good one nightcap turned into three. A few of us braved the unique cocktail menu and each of us were rewarded with harmonious concoctions of complex tastes. Not only were the drinks perfectly mixed, they were relatively inexpensive. Cocktails that would easily cost over $10 elsewhere ranged from $6.50 to $9 at GS. The perfect complement to our drinks was the exceptional service. If our waitress hadn't told us it was her first night there, we would not have guessed it. She was quick, accurate, and even handled a picky orderer in our group with humor. For better or worse, whenever one of us got down to our last sip, she would magically appear to take an order for the next round. We will definitely be back!

  • Pros: Service, drinks
  • Cons: Drinks are so good, you can't have just one

A sleek, welcoming atmosphere and retro-minded menu lure Central Square scenesters off of Mass. Ave.

by Contributor at Citysearch

Located in the former home of one of the region's most popular Caribbean eateries, Green Street resides only a block away from the bustle of Mass. Ave. Upon entering, patrons are welcomed by a handsome, minimally-lit bar area where several microbrews are served on tap. The elevated dining room provides a comfortable spot for enjoying hearty, retro-minded fare (clam-corn chowder, pot roast, hot dogs, baked beans) and upscale, modern concoctions (roasted beet salad, seared duck breast with warm cranberry sauce).

Best food in Central Square

by northshorefoodies at Citysearch

I love this restaurant. The menu boasts "comfort food" and it certainly delivers. The atmosphere is very relaxed and fun, great for large parties or a romantic dinner for two. Prices are very reasonable. The drink menu is fantastic (interesting cocktails, and not TOO sweet) and the wine list is nice. I will return here many times in the future. The owner and bartender Dillon Black is awesome.

We went for the Latin night after being told it began at 10pm. We got there and were told they were still setting up, so we ordered drinks and dessert. While the drinks and dessert were fine, Latin night did not even begin to get underway until around midnight. We spent two hours just waiting for them to move the tables out of the restaurant and for the band to get set up. If you're going to dance, go later in the evening.

  • Cons: late start to dance

A Good night!

by blackjul at Citysearch

The service was great! The food came very fast didn't have to wait long. I recommend the Mahi Mahi white fish was great. Came with rice and red beans also plantains on the fish was a very spice sauce with avacado, mango, papaya. My fiance got the the chicken wings with red beans and rice. The chicken wings were way to HOT! Couldn't even eat them and I Love spicey foods. Then around 11:30 the salsa music started it was really nice.

  • Pros: Good parking
  • Cons: Crowded on weekends

Amazing food!

by splaktar at Citysearch

We went here with a group of 6 friends. The wait for a table on a weekend night was fairly long, but worth it.

All of the food was simply fantastic! The plantains were so good that we ordered extra on the side. The spices, meat, and seafood were all perfectly combined.

We stayed around for the cuban salsa/mambo after dinner. But the place got too cold (October). I could swear that it was around 50 F at our table and on the dance floor. I understand keeping the heat down so that you don't get too hot dancing, but this was way overboard! We were so cold that dancing wasn't really possible and we had to leave.

great food/ service poor

by bostoncowgirl at Citysearch

the food here is fantastic! and the music a lovely accompaniment. but the service even on return visits is poor. food servers that seem to care less and make you feel like you're a hassle; and bartenders that dont know how to mix a drink. (altho the lovely host sang a mean happy birthday!)

the kitchen is getting it right (try the grilled shrimp chorizo appetizer!) but stick with beer or wine if you want a decent drink. its worth the trip because the food is so fresh, unusual, and fantastic!

  • Pros: great food, great music, parking garage

Good Food

by young_professional at Citysearch

The atmosphere is about average at this place. The lower part is more like a pub than a restaurant. The upper part has more of a island flavor. The food was great. The monkfish I had was just at the right flavor and texture. Price is not cheap, but not expensive either, just below $20 for an entree. Good selection of beer.

We went on Saturday night, on which they have a salsa band(Friday and Saturday). The music started around 12, and they charged $5 for the cover even when we had dinner there. The band is average. The dancing crowd has a lot more girls than guys. So, it's good for a guy if you can dance, but not too good for a girl.

I recommend this place for its food, but not for singles to dance unless you go with a partner.

  • Pros: Good location, Good food, Reasonable price
  • Cons: Low key atmosphere, Average Salsa band
