I have been looking for a Mexican joint since I arrived in Cambridge and my search continues...this place is crap...it is overpriced...doesn't provide value...the ambiance is ok but you can't eat ambiance...if someone is looking for quality Mexican food then this is not it...any street vendor from Boyle Heights in Los Angeles can provide you with tastier food...in fact I was thinking of bringing in a couple of taceros from Los Angeles and opening up my own place...if residents of Cambridge think this is a good representation of Mexican food then I can make a fortune...BOTTOM LINE: you will not get sick, but it is not a good representation of Mexican cuisine.
- Pros: the ambience
- Cons: the service, the food
left over mexican food

We went on sunday afternoon and the food presentation was simply disnapointing. It looks like a 5 year old would make the dishes look better. The rice annd beans tasted dry and old ( maybe left overs from the previous day) I could not believed that this place could not provide fresh rice and beans!!!! Im not sure how anyone could rate this palce more than one star!!! Service was non existent and the meats were tasteless. I wish i could show you a picture so that everyone can see. Dont waste your time nor money !!! there are much better places!!!
- Pros: location
- Cons: blamd taste/poor presentation and poor value - old food
Going downhill?

I used to agree with the people below - Picante used to be one of my favorites in college - but I went there recently and had a really weird/unpleasant experience. Ordered a steak burrito, and after paying for it, the girl behind the register said "you know, steak is really bad for you. You shouldn't eat it." Tried to make a joke out of it, by saying she should've told me that before I ordered, but she just seemed like she got mad at me and gave me dirty looks! Not the best way to promote your product! The burrito wasn't worth the trouble in the end - it was drier and less tasty than usual. Boo!
The best burritos!

Coming from Southern California originally I've had my fair share of authentic "Mexican" food, and one of my biggest disappointments with Boston was the lack of quality Mexican food. There are of course generic burrito places but generally their food is...well generic. Then comes Picante! My favorite dish is the Roasted Poblano Chicken Burrito while my friend loves the chicken and rice with Picante's homemade mole sauce. Picante also has a full salsa bar with at least 6 different types, all of which are unique, fun to try, and leave you with the difficult task of deciding which salsa you want to spend the majority of your chips on. If you need beer with your meal Picante has it, along with many typical Tex-Mex style dishes (which I have not tried and therefore can not yet suggest). Also, I wouldn't call the staff enthusiatic but they get your food out quickly. All in all, I really enjoy Picante and happily make the mile walk from where I work to eat there each week.
- Pros: Food, Price, Salsa bar,
- Cons: Parking
Perfect!

Picante is the perfect cheap Mexican place. I'm extremely picky when it comes to Mexican food because I've been spoiled with growing up in Los Angeles. This place is cheap, it tastes great, and the portions are a decent size. It's also pleasant to eat in. No scary flourescent lighting or loud music. Picante is a great place to grab dinner with your roomate, friend, or significant other on a casual night out.
- Pros: Price, Taste
Popular local Mexican take-out joint specializes in creative, health-conscious fare (no lard, fat-free salsas).

In Short
Area students and young professionals order at Picante's counter after selecting from a straightforward menu of tacos, quesadillas, enchiladas and burritos. Patrons can gorge without guilt, as the menu promises to "Get the lard out." Fillings include freshly grilled chicken and vegetables, and sauces include tangy verde and smoky mole. After receiving their food, most customers make a beeline towards the well-stocked salsa bar.
BEST Mexican Food in Boston!!!!!

This place is great. After much heartfelt seaching for GREAT Mexican food I found it here. You get to use a free salsa bar (chips aren't free) and save on a large tip by picking up your own food and dropping off your plates. Everything was fresh and had a great flavor. I have tried nearly every Mexican place in Boston and this has been the best. Portions were so large and cheap I had plenty to take home. I recommend it to everyone. The inside is larger than other similar places and has a nice interior design.
- Pros: Salsa Bar, Fresh Food, Delicious, large meal
- Cons: NONE its great!
