Very simply, delicious food and attentive wait staff. We went during restaurant week so it was very busy and had a more electic crowd than usual... but it definitely didn't disappoint.
Pros: awesome food and service
Cons: a little pricey

My wife and I were seated at Harvest Restaurant at 7PM as per our reservation on a Saturday night through Open Table. We were there with a gift card from our daughter for our 35th wedding anniversary. We got up to leave after 20 minutes when no waiter had yet come to the table. The room was half full at best and a ll other staff avoided eye contact. The hostess reacted by saying, "What do we have to do to have you dine with us". Not looking to negotiate, but just looking for a good meal on our special occasion, we left. Our 100 Open Table points were immediately deducted by the hostess even though we had been seated. Open Table, reinstated the points without any questions. Horrible and insensitive service by Harvest.

I was looking forward to dinner as we have enjoyed restaurant week meals at many the local restaurants. This was the worst ever. Under-ripe tasteless heirloom tomatoes, the toughest pork loin chop I have tasted (probably due to keeping it on a steam table), mashed potatoes that could not have been made that day since they tasted like a refrigerator, mushy tasteless veggies served with a passable swordfish and unremarkable desserts - what was that jelly stuff under the sorbet?. We even complained about the pork to our waitress with no satisfacation or even acknowledgement from management. Maybe the staff was tired of preparing the same featured meal for 1 1/2 weeks and it showed. We will not be returning at any time.
Pros: ?
Cons: awful parking, uninteresting decor and noisy

I don't live in Cambridge but when I'm in Harvard Square area 2-3 times a month I frequent Harvest for its very comfortable atmosphere, warm bar, outside garden dining in the summer. It has a modern New England feel with great fish, game, hamburgers, salads, and nice wine list. The bar is great if you are sitting alone. The restaurant is off the main street found in large walkway /alley. The service staff and management is very nice and professional. It's great place for a casual dinner or a intimate dinner out for a special occasion. The Sunday Brunch is great but be sure you are hungry.
Pros: Comfortable, Very Good Upscale Dining, Nice Bartenders, Hidden Location
Cons: Parking Difficult, Not open Late

My boyfriend and I went on a whim (without reservations) and had the longest wait to be seated (approx. 1 hour!). But it was definitely worth it. We were made to wait in the bar area which was too small to hold the patrons that were there to drink and eat (never mind the people waiting to be seated). We had to do all we could to avoid having our drinks spilled all over us from the constant flow of people in and out of the bar and the bathroom which was on the other side of the bar. However, once we were seated, the night drastically improved. The menu selections were varied and the prices were on the high side but not unreasonable. The service was excellent and the overall ambience was nice. You could peak into the kitchen are since it was an open concept kitchen but you don't see everything so that it would be distracting. The place is very small and cramped but again once you are seated you don't notice. They also had outdoor seating that I would like to try next time when the weather is better. Overall great experience.
Pros: Excellent food and service
Cons: Long wait without reservations and small, cramped spaces

This a horrible restaurant. We went for Restaurant Week and learned after we had been seated that they did not offer the special prix fixe deal on Saturday nights. This, I pointed out, was not clearly indicated on their publicity for the event and that, in fact, the material I had (and showed them) was down right misleading. The hostess who came to my table was patronizing and not only did not offer satisfaction did nothing to even attempt to make us feel that we were anything other than dopes. I guess we were dopes to stay because the meal that followed went from mediocre to awful. The entree especially which was a pork tenderloin with peach salsa was nearly inedible (hard to do with such a simple preparation). The meat was overcooked and tasteless and had a texture that was odd as if it was injected with brine or something in an effort to give it moisture. The plate was hot as if it had been sitting a long time under a heat lamp and the salsa was tasteless and also had a sad, glazed look of having sat for awhile. The service, apart from the rude hostess was perfunctory and not exactly unfriendly so much as affectless. I had eaten here a couple of years ago and was disappointed (same super hot plate and stale seeming food), but came back for the Restaurant Week deal. What a mistake. I would never set foot in this restaurant again.

This place is so highly ranked, so I thought I'd try it. The cheese plate wasn't good and the fish was not good. The atmosphere was OK. The waitress seemed like she was new to the job. Very crowded and loud. I don't think I will go back. Dessert was kind of boring.
Pros: setting OK
Cons: too much money for what you get

If you like pretentious conversation, poor service by odd little waiters who basically ignore you and overpriced food that isnt very good regardless, feel free to visit this little gem tucked away in Harvard Square. The shrimp cocktail was chewy, the veal was tough and the asparagus was overcooked. The weird little waiter was our favorite. He was one of the least sociable individuals we have come across and the fact that Harvest even hired someone like him calls their judgment into serious question. I would have rather given the $100 to a homeless person and gone to Burger King.
Pros: decent outside patio
Cons: everything else

With its delicious food and warm atmosphere, the Harvest should be a terrific dining destination. But the service ranges from very good to downright awful. Once when dining with friends, I ordered the wine, but the waiter presented it to the only male at the table for tasting (who then directed the waiter back to me). Another time, a friend staying at the Charles Hotel made brunch reservations. We were the first arrival, so were asked to wait at the bar while our table was prepared. But as other diners came in, they were promptly seated while we were ignored. After about 25 minutes, I flagged down the hostess and pointed out that since we'd arrived before everyone else, we should've been seated before everyone else. While my other experiences here were excellent, one expects better at an institution like the Harvest.
Pros: outdoor dining, food & wine list
Cons: sometimes bad service

I've read many positive reviews of Harvest, but I wasn't as happy as I might have been about the food or service.
