Was good, but isn't at the moment....
I've been going to Cafe of India for two years and it has, by far, been my favorite Indian restaurant in Cambridge. However, beginning about a month or so ago, everytime I've gone there (usually
once every 2 weeks) it has been horrible. The water tastes like dish water. The samosas were undercooked. And, when we pointed out that they were uncooked, they took them away with a promise to give us new ones, but they never gave them to us. The waiters, and even the manager who took away the samosa, were rude! No smiles here.
Also, there is a CharlieCard discount (see the Charlie Card discount book online!) for free samosas with the purchase of an entree. The waiter was not pleased when we showed him our CharlieCard. If you don't want to give the discount, then don't advertise!
Plea to the owners/managers: Please return this restaurant to the way it was before this past summer (2008). I loved coming here, but would love fresh water, cooked samosas, and maybe a smile or two. Thanks!…
Horrible food.
This by far had to be the worst restaurant I have ever dined in. Food was cold, cooked hours prior to ordering.
Some of the food had no flavor, not even salt. Other dishes were cold, and too salty. The chicken tandori, was too dry, and must have been cooked at least two days prior to ordering.
The meal for two people at $37 was a joke! Everything was bite sizes, the samosa was over fried and cold, the beef kabab portions were very small, and too dry.
I am shocked this place is still in business. The waiters were rude, and could not even show a smile.
Do not eat their,
Eating a month old bread, is better than their food.
I am very serious, at least I feel lucky that I did not end up in a hospital after my horrible experience at cafe india.
Please, take my advise, and save your money: Do not eat their!…
Horrible experience.
The experience at this place was horrible. We went on Saturday night and the place was packed. The wait staff was as nice as they could be given that they were severely overworked and
understaffed.
The food was terrible. It took forever to arrive.
The tandoori chicken appetizer had absolutely no tandoori flavor and was dry as a bone. The naan arrived cold and who knows how long it had been sitting around before it came to our table. We ordered a second naan just as our food arrived and we never got it. The aloo gobi had no aloo (potato) in it. There was no salt and no flavor in the food. They obviously have no pride in providing a decent product.…
Harvard Square Indian restaurant provides its patrons with a bargain lunch buffet and affordable take-out options..
In Short
Cafe of India's tandoori over churns out not only the familiar (chicken, lamb), but also unusual fare like whole sea bass. The popular lunch buffet includes soup, salad,
appetizers, entrees, fresh naan bread and dessert, and its contents change daily. Popular, authentic dishes include goat curry, minted rack of lamb and mango chicken.…
Glad to found this after a semester of search. I spent almost a semester searching for a decent Indian restaurant in Cambridge, it was quite a disappointing experience for a California transplant like me, until I found this place. It has great Indian food, definitely one of the best in the Cambridge area. It is environment is great, a good mix of tradition of trendy design, but not overdone. Summer dining could be even more pleasant when they open up the huge glass doors to the sidewalk. All of its lamb dishes are carefully cooked and deliver with high quality. I love eggplants, so I also recommend Baingan Bhartha.…
