Awesome chocolate, what more can I say? Sometimes the counter staff is great, sometimes not. Try the chocolate rodents! (citysearch won't let me say the "m" word) Consider planning to get your food to go, though, as the place is cramped with few seats.
Pros: Great price for the quality!
Cons: Small and sometimes hard to get a seat.

Burdick's has the richest, most decadent hot chocolate -- it's so thick, it could be a dessert in itself! (And you have a choice of dark, milk and ivory) If that's not enough chocolate for you, they also offer a wonderful assortment of chocolate candies and desserts. They also make a pretty good latte and offer a nice selection of teas. However, it's not the coziest or most relaxing of places; seating is extremely limited, so the remaining available space in the cafe is taken up by other people waiting for a seat... which makes it hard for customers that just want to get to the counter and order a hot chocolate. Still, if you have a hankering for hot chocolate, this is the only place in the Boston area to go.
Pros: chocolate, chocolate, chocolate
Cons: seating is a pain, very crowded

been there 2 times once with my roommate, once alone. First time I liked the place and took cappuccino both times. second time they were rude, they asked me to put-off my mobile while ordering even though I excused from the other person on phone to make my order.
Cons: seating, crowded

Go here on a cold day when you're in the mood for some wonderful hot chocolate and dessert. They have a great selection of desserts, but the hot chocolate is enough - just sweet enough to satisfy your sweet tooth. The only problem is there is very limited seating so you may have to wait around for a seat.

It's a lovely place with lots of character, I love coming here when it isn't too crowded (which is rare, actually). Sunny, chilly afternoons on weekdays are the best. Their hot chocolate - I wouldn't call it "European style" as others put it, because the European-style (French, Dutch, etc.) hot chocolates are different in taste and texture. Burdick's chocolate is unique, and it's the best chocolate place in Boston for sure. The leaf cookie w/ hot chocolate is amazing. The servers are rude but I don't pay that much attention, so it's OK. Highly recommended...

I've been looking for a serious cup of real hot chocolate, not cocoa, and found it!!! It was heavenly, this is the place for European hot chocolate, et les desserts sont delicieux!
Pros: nice ambience, helpful staff
Cons: , expensive

I feel that Burdick's has all of the charms that you wish every cafe could offer. A beautiful space, great espresso drinks, and delicious pastries. It's almost too much that Burdick's also produces the best chocolates in the US. I feel like this is a real honest value, and gives you a local, unique place to visit. I agree that it is busy during times when Harvard Sq is busy (Sundays, etc.) but worth the effort if you can manage an off peak time. Especially for the hot chocolate.
Pros: Value, Quality, Feel

The hot chocolate at Burdick's is by far, the best in Harvard Square - perhaps the best in all of Boston. Service is somewhat non-existent, and it's difficult to get a table during the afternoon and evening.
Pros: Best Hot Chocolate
Cons: Crowded

We already knew the chocolates are great, and the chocolate-dipped dried fruit looked enticing. As a cafe, it takes some getting used to. The layout is awkward and the serving system is unclear, so the staff end up telling customers what to do a lot. The chocolate drinks are much richer than most people are used to, and large, so this more like a dessert place than a coffee-type cafe. I would have to scratch my head to figure out if it would be good to bring a group here.
Pros: chocolates, rich desserts
Cons: awkward and small, service not smooth, expensive chocolates
