These People are Fooling You

by GrammarSnob

Please be aware: if you've never had read Hungarian food do not let these people fool you. This is NOT real Hungarian food!! My father is originally from Hungary and when he and my mother came to visit me recently, I decided it would be fun to take them here. I was SO disappointed. The sauce is NOT Hungarian - it actually tastes more like curry - the spetzel was flavorless - the vweinershnitzel was terrible - oh, man, it was just not real Hungarian food!

On top of that the service was bad (took almost 2 hours to get our food) and when we nicely mentioned something to the waiter/chef, he was very rude and defensive about it.

Not fun. Very disappointing. :(

  • Pros: water glasses refilled quickly
  • Cons: everything else: NOT real Hungarian food!!

Great service-great food. Takes a while to cook (because the waiters are the cooks), but it's worth it. Small and homey, a great upscale restaurant. Very, very nice people and very nice spot and small restaurant.

Dinner for a party of 7 with desserts, appetizers and 2 bottles of wine about $375. If I could, I would give Jasmine Bistro 6 stars

A True Culinary Master and Welcoming Host

by rwilli

At a time when choosing a restaurant in Boston increasingly means selecting an ethnicity (do we do Indian, Mexican or Thai?) or a gimmick (shabu-shabu, churrasco or Mongolian grille), Jasmine Bistro stands apart an enduring example of the western world's great culinary heritage. Head chef and proprietor Naz Kahn was trained in the great tradition of masters trained in the enduring culinary capital of the world, Paris, and has since worked in some of the most reputable kitchens of the world, most notably (in these parts) Cafe Budapest. You would never guess it by his his unassuming manner, though. Naz comes to the table in person to inform his guests of what the specials are that evening, and delights when patrons show an interest in his ingredients or methods. And what food it is! Everything Naz and his family prepare starts with the highest quality ingredients and is from there enhanced with delicious spices and sauces. Don't be mistaken. None of the spices are strong enough to offend even the most delicate taste, but rather are complex and subtle blends perfected through years of experience. Naz's take on cherry soup is unimitable, and his eggplant appetizer leaves one amazed that such flavors could be coaxed from such a commonplace vegetable. Even the basmati rice has been elevated to a work art through careful application of bay leaf and clove. Jasmine Bistro serves something to delight any diner. The only trouble is that once you've been treated to their hospitality and food, you'll never consider any other establishment in the city worthy of the title of restaurant again!

Super cute hidden jewel!!!

by floridagirl3003

This place is really neat. The waiter is actually the chef, and came out and chatted with us (which was terrific) and offered wine suggestions before taking our order. Very unique menu, and the food turned out to be perfect for people( like myself) that are looking for good flavors without a lot of grease or nasty stuff... I think he uses a lot of spices ( low calories ladies!!) instead of butter and salt which is great . Too bad he put a basket of the most amazing buttered french bread on the table, and all my health concious decisions went out the window!!! Definately worth the trip.... I just hope too many people dont start pouring in, because I didnt have to wait for my table at 7:30 PM and I love that.....

  • Pros: Unique menu, great service, low calorie but flavorful options

Middle Eastern, Hungarian and French dishes all have a home in Brighton Center.

In Short
The menu at this popular, family-run restaurant reflects the owners personal (Afghanistan, Pakistan) and professional (the now-closed Cafe Budapest) backgrounds. Jasmine's chef must feel like Marco Polo, creating a Madras-style curry for one dish, a Pakistani yogurt curry for another. Vegetarians are well served, and oenophiles get to enjoy rare Hungarian reds. For dessert, options include a pear poached in cardamom water and served with a white chocolate and caramel sauce.

beautiful food, beautiful presentation in a relaxed environment

by vinoqueen1

This place is unbelievable. They served the most unblievable potato leek soup. The red snapper was amazing and the service was outstanding. Their homemade desserts left me overwhelmed. I sat and relaxed and never felt rushed and the whole family served me. It was amazing. It was high end with out the snobery. I couldn't believe what I was seeing ....and eating

Check this place out and you will not be disapointed!

I can't wait to go back there!

  • Pros: good parking, public transport, great service
  • Cons: can't think of any cons

A Great Place

by osnat lupesko

We came to celebrate an occasion in a rainy day, and enjoyed every second - Above all, the food was very good, a mixture of different, interesting cuisines. We tried the butter nut squash soup - Delicioussssssss! The Gulash (Hungarian cuisine) was also very good, so was the fillet mignon.

The prices are quite reasonable relatively to the food's quality.

The service was warm and friendly.

Do (must!) ask about the wine's list!

What are you standing there for? Go...Go...Go!

A pleasure

by mdivisconte

I took a friend out for a special occasion and this turned out to be a perfect choice. The food was outstanding, the service was extremely personal (the owner chatted with us for a good portion of the evening) and the wine list was impressive both for selections and value.

first class service

by joshingu

The best part about Jasmine besides the food is the service! The owner is your waiter and he takes pride not only in his food but also in your entire experience. He loves what he does and it shows in the quality that radiates through every aspect of his restaurant. If you are lucky you might get the romantic table for two in the window!
