A standby for South End locals and Boston University Medical Center denizens, Blunch whips up eggwiches and chalkboard deli specials in a cozy, tongue-in-cheek, counter-service spot..
The South End might seem to be belled-and-whistled out, but the easily overlooked sprawl near the hospital hosts this worthy sleeper. Pull on the spoon (fashioned as the front door's handle) and
order some of the cheapest, tastiest no-frills fare around, freshly made to order. A cup of Fair Trade, organic Peruvian coffee hits the spot with a fluffy eggwich or a muffin. "Today's whim" includes a rotating roster of pressed sandwiches and homemade soups, in addition to deli offerings like The Bird, The Meltdown, and The Wilbur (it indeed contains lovely, lovely bacon.) Despite the clunky name, Blunch does its job well to satisfy the early-day cravings--that nebulous wanting of caffeine, carbs, and fresh Vermont goat cheese on a baguette.
