Just so nice to be there

by seekingcalm

This is a friendly, low-key salon where they take the time to listen to what you want. It's a pleasant and relaxing place to be. I've always been happy with every haircut I've gotten there (I use the same stylist each time). My daughter had her ears pierced there--Joy, the owner does that service. Joy was patient and careful, and she gives a very helpful information sheet about follow-up care.

  • Pros: Friendly staff, great haircuts, pleasant atmosphere
  • Cons: Not open on Sundays

Good services, good people

by bubl

I've tried lots of places to get a haircut or some highlights, but I've never come across any place as easy as this neighborhood salon. The receptionist was friendly and able to answer all my questions, the prices are moderate, the salon itself has 2 rocking chairs! and was recently repainted inside and out.. I've been a few times and have had different hairdressers each time, but everyone was good and definitely listened to my wishes. I say the place is easy because thats what I feel: at ease like I know I'm in good hands. And its easy on the pocketbook. Also easy to get to by T or by car. I hear the manicurist is fabulous and they have facials that don't leave your skin in trauma. But I want to try the spray tanning next.

  • Pros: comfortable for all kinds of people and for all ages
  • Cons: not open on Sundays

Best in the neighborhood!

by gjeanf2005

My experience at Fresh Hair depends on the stylist. I have been going on and off for 3 years now, and have yet to go to the same person twice. Sometimes it is because of a bad experience (stylist massaging my hair a little too much during shampoo--so much so i was blushing and completely embarrassed!) Sometimes it becuase i think i can find something cheaper and better. But never the less, Fresh hair is 5 minutes from my house, very cool in the summer time and has what i know now to be some of the best prices around. That being said, I will tell of two experiences recently that make me want to continue going there (and to the same two people) I went in and got the best hair cut I've gotten in the past few years. The stylist knew what I wanted (and the receptionist was extremely helpful in deciding between 2 available stylist) and I wasn't afraid to tell her to do what she thought was best too.

I also had a terrible experience with a manicure that they were very understanding about and I went in free of charge the next week and someone else fixed it up beautifully for me.

  • Pros: willing to redo service if customer is not satisfied
  • Cons: experience levels and competence varies GREATLY

inconsistent

by sleepyhead8

i think how well you like this place for haircuts really depends on the stylist. i had kelly and i didn't like her. she was too rushed and my hair ended up a lot shorter than i had in mind. now i go to miss laura's up the street, and i'm much happier there.

A Boston Salon that really cares

by amitzvah

Nicest people. Very clean and "fresh". Joy, the owner is very warm and open to talking to anyone. Most owners don't bother. My time there flew by. The hair color and cut I recieved was outstanding. Last time it didn't fade either.

Friendly and great services too!

by yogabaer

Been a long time customer (4 years) and feel welcomed everytime I enter. Have had hair services (cuts & colors), skin care, and nails done. Some of the staff are better at interpreting my desires and some are better at giving me new ideas, but all have been nice and I've never felt rushed. Unlike other places, there's not much drama or posturing, they're very down-to-earth. The price is right and the atmosphere is charming, really. They sell the basic things, and some unusual earrings and gift stuff. Also, they added spray tanning last year which is great (clean and safe). I would highly recommend a visit, and if you're unsure who to see just ask the receptionist. It feels real, and right.

  • Pros: atmposhere, friendliness, professional work without the drama
  • Cons: parking during school hours

Worst hair color...turned my hair BRIGHT ORANGE.

by leighwhitt

Stylist insisted that she could take my medium brown hair to blond in a single process after being warned that (from past experience) by hair would not lift to blond. She turned my hair ORANGE!! I returned for a color correction the next day when a stylist with just over a year of experience turned my hair an even brighter shade of orange. The staff at the salon then let me know that they were sorry, but there was nothing that they could do at this time. They actually let me walk out of the salon with bright orange hair. The service at this salon is horrible. They should be embarassed to be in business.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: Service, experience, skill

Tina for waxing

by overleaf

located close to home and affordable. My first appointment I had my eyebrows, lip and chin waxing done by Tina, she is very detail oriented and wants you to be happy with the way your brows etc. look. They turned out great no stray hairs perfectly even and great arch.

I was going out of town and had to make an appointment on short notice, mistake... Do not go to Linda for waxing. She barely plucked after she waxed my brows, WASNT detail oriented and didnt show me the end result in the mirror. Anyone that has been waxed know that it is virtually impossible to get great looking eyebrows without also using tweezers. I should have asked for a mirror to see what she had done. One eyebrow is slightly thicker than the other and I had to trim and pluck some hairs after I got home.

Lesson stick to the same person for waxing that you liked the 1st time.

  • Pros: close to home, staff are nice
  • Cons: inconsistency in skill

my haircut made me feel beautiful

by beet_ocean

great- looking haircut. My stylist really listens to what I want, and understands how to make it happen. Last time I left the salon my hair caused some serious head turning! I used to get my hair cut on Newbury Street, and paid twice as much for dreadfully un-cool hair. At Fresh Hair I get better reseults and service in a friendly and unpretensious environment.
