I have followed Louise Chobanian back to Avanti and I will never be dissapointed. She knows just how to suggest and veiw your image and style without pressure. Her talentsare endless. She sits with you and consults in detail and she listens. I have always recommended friends and family to her because she basis her buisness on refurals. She colors my hair with a multidementional tecnique that mimics natural looking locks. I have even had perms from her and my waves have looked amazingly natural.Louise Chobanian is #1 in our eyes... see for yourself!

After three years of using bleach, horrible damage (complete breakage around the crown and nape of my neck, leaving me with Julius Cesar-style bangs), I decided to switch salons, and see a ?color corrective specialist.? Well, he dyed my hair a deep brown/reddish color (more suited for a dog) and told me there was nothing he could do?to live with it. Another stylist in the salon suggested I make an appointment at Avanti Salon on Newbury, which is where I met Richard Caron. He was at first apprehensive about doing any more damage to my hair, but said he could fix it. He ordered a special hair dye remover to get my hair back to light (without further damage) and then created a special formula that would make me blonde again?without the bleach. In the end, I love this color more than the bleach blonde before, and my hair is healthy and growing again! Richard is exactly what you should want in a hair stylist?creative, knowledgeable, professional and he?s not afraid to ask his colleagues for their opinion to ensure his clients leave fully satisfied with the best possible color. I recommend Richard without hesitation to anyone in search of an amazing hair color, and especially if you are in need of color correction?you won?t regret it!
- Pros: Amazing color, pretty salon, nice reception, parking garage across the street
- Cons: Middle of the road expensive--but same as every other Newbury Salon

Avanti Salon does everything to make you look and feel beautiful. Hair color, manicures, pedicures, micro-dermabrasions, facials, and all that jazz has women flocking to 11, Newbury Street despite insufficient parking. White walls and white light with rectangular mirrors gives a spacious look to the place. Be sure to meet Bernice, Alex or Nancy; they are fantastic.
Best nails, best blowout

First, Bernice is the greatest nail tech in Boston. The pedicures here are a little pricey at $50, but after a full hour of foot cleaning, my feet are so beautiful and soft you could kiss them! She uses this foot sanding machine that's not painful at all like some scrapers out there and your feet will come out smooth and polished. I go here as often as I can afford it. Lasts long enough for a polish change or two at the cheap places too.
Second, Julia does the most beautiful blowouts I've ever seen. Two friends of mine see her for cut and color and they kept coming back with shiny smooth, voluminous curls cascading down their shoulders. So, when I had an event, I went to her and have never had a better blowdry in my life. Now, I go to her for all my special occasions and it lasts for days. Holiday parties, new year's eve, birthdays...I look great that night and for a few days after. That's why I always make sure to get a blowdry from her just before vacations, so when I step off the plane, I know I already look fabulous.

After years of searching I finally found the perfect hairstylist. I have difficult hair, but Janida always knows exactly what to do with it to make it look great. Equally important, she is so sweet and personable. She always makes me feel comfortable, she is not the least bit snobby like the rest of the professional staff. My experiences there are always great, but the very best part is the shampoo when they give a very relaxing head massage. The assistants are always very attentive. AND...the prices are very reasonable.
- Pros: Janida, head massages
- Cons: limited waiting area is uncomfortable at times

i recently got my hair cut and foiled from Valerie at Avanti and it came out great! i heard good things about this salon from friends and decided to try it out..and i couldnt be happier with the results..she was so nice and made me feel beautiful..the prices are pretty reasonable for newbury st its worth a trip to boston..

Avanti is a fun, upbeat and stylish place to get a haircut. I'm a guy with long hair, and Kevin is the best stylist I've found anywhere for giving my hair a perfectly layered and sculptured look. He cuts it just as I like, never too long or too short, takes his time, and is a really nice guy, doesn't chat your ears off.

I just had my hair straitened by my stylist Louise Chobanian not to be confused with the other Louise. All I can say is AMAZING. She controlled my wirey, frizzy hair in 5 hrs. It was educational and fun.The compliments Im getting are increadable. Im spreading the word. Its hard to find a person who listens and understands and is increadably professional.Oh, the salon is beautiful too. The employees are friendly and nice. The salon is energetic. I love it and my stylist too!

Avanti is a great place to get your hair styled and I am a big fan of the salon. The people at Avanti are friendly, their prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is comfortable. I was introduced to Avanti by following one of their stylists there, Richard Caron. Richard has been styling my hair for a number of years (too many to count) and in my opinion he is one of the best stylists on Newbury Street or in Boston for that matter. Richard is a versatile stylist; every time I want a new look ? he pulls it off with ease. If I want to continue with a certain style, he consistently delivers. He is an artist. His attention to detail and focus makes you believe that you?re his only customer of the day.
Due to my work schedule, I sometimes go long period between cuts, but Richard?s work is so great, that my hair grows out perfectly ? the sign of a fantastic cut. Not only do I get a great cut each time, but also I feel good when I leave the salon and walk down Newbury Street - always with a big smile.

Didn't work for me

A few weeks ago, I stopped in to make an appointment. The receptionist explained that I would first have a consultation with the owner of the salon, who, upon meeting me and reviewing my needs, would recommend a compatible stylist on his staff. So the next day I arrive on time, excited for the consultation, but it never happened. Instead, after waiting around for a while, I was handed off to a very young stylist, who cut my hair into a strange bob that didn't work for my hair at all. Too shy to say anything, I went home and immediately put it in a ponytail and started researching other salons. Unfortunately, I am finding that "award-winning" salons are not living up to the hype...
