I really really want to like the Eagle because Boston doesn't have enough gay dives, particularly the snobby South End. I love gay dives and I really love finding new ones. But unfortunately the reality is that the Eagle is just pretty bad. It's not really that cheap (although for the area it's pretty competitive) and the music is TERRIBLE. Yeah, we're all gay, but seriously do we need to listen to disco? It's almost insulting- particularly considering it's more or less a bear bar. The bartenders are kind of rude too. It's an easy place to pick someone up but that's all it really has going for it- well that and maybe the pool table. If you're gay and in Boston and don't like 12 dollar martinis and guys that look like androgynous dolls, you'll probably end up at the Eagle. However, that's really more of a testament to the failure of Boston's gay scene then the Eagle itself.
- Pros: cheap for the area, pool table
- Cons: awful music, usually unnatractive and old men
go if you like being insulted

as a out of towner one of my first destinations was the eagle bar, despite the bars dodgy outsides and decor i felt reasonably comfortable for the evening,i started talking to some friendly guys and the first thing they mentioned was the rudeness of the staff and some of the customers, this was a true sign of worry for me that people were actually apologetic for the behaviour of the staff and crowd, and within two hours i agreed wholeheartedly. the bar staff are mostly made up of bitter and twisted individuals who are all over the age of 50 and harbour a real resentment against having to do any kind of work whatsoever and managed to make most of the customers feel completely uncomfortable all the time, yet they complain of having no custom when the reply to that question is obvious! the clientel is mixed ranging from friendly to not so friendly, but the strong majority still also being unpleasant and reasonably narrow minded.i.e picking on people for being liberal, democrat, republican or even picking on a persons attire and insulting them to there face in one case.this really goes to show the bitterness and brutallity of this depressing bar.if there is a good time to be had in a gay bar in boston, and you are person who is not bitter twisted resentfull and has more than 6 brain cells, i suggest you look elsewhere
- Pros: good price for drinks SOME FRIENDLY PEOPLE!
- Cons: horrible ugly depressing incredibly rude bar staff and customers!

Went to this place a few times with friends who live in the neighborhood. The Bartender is the nastiest, unfriendly puck you will ever meet. Full of his attitude like he's all that. He isn't. The place was full of the same faces I saw for the 3 days I was there. I saw them to and fro on the sidewalk and in the resturants. It's a neighborhood bar, that is hyped well beyond it's abilities. I was disturbed by the bathroom, which is obviously not to code for any city, and this bars only attraction. Some old man kept holding the door open... small cramped, and no privacy. I've been to leather bars all over, and seen all kinds of things that are done right. Stop trying to do what a real leatherman's bar does, you don't pull it off very well. Be what you are, a neighborhood bar.
