Delicious Thai Food
by Julia1982
I love Thai Food, and Thai Basil met all my expectations. They have delicious Pad Thai, as well as Yellow Curry Chicken. I go there at least 3 times a month. If you like Thai Food, you must try them! Highly recommended!
hate this restaurant very rude waiters

I will not go back to this restaurant again. The servers are all rude. This place is the worst Thai restaurant I have ever been to in the MA area.
HORRIBLE SERVICE
by fa6ami86
the waitresses were VERY RUDE the lady got our order wrong and when we tried to point it out she started screaming at us and said they didn't care if we never showed up again.. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE service.. plus when i tried to explain that its rude to scream and that the no.1 rule of business is customers are always right she said no they're not in this rest. we are! can you imagine? i wouldnt recommend it to anyone.. even the food has become less good than it used to..nothing special at all about this place..horrible expererience.. never again!
- Pros: okaaay food
- Cons: everything else esp. service
Rude Staff, Dont understand English properly
by ashwariya
Food is good for the price, but the staff needs to be trained to respect the customers. I ordered seafood noodles, and found pieces of beef in it. I do not eat meat, specially beef. I complained about it to three different people and finally they got me a new dish. When I was leaving, the waiter told me " Good bye - Seafood", which I found to be very rude. And it shows that they dont respect other cultures and religions. I will not eat there again.
- Pros: Good price for the food and location
- Cons: Very ill-mannered staff.
Rodents
by boston_bar_connoisseur
Multiple reports and rumors of rodents in their kitchen. Would not eat there again after hearing this.
fast service- because they are rushing you out

This place has an awesome location, great to stop on newbury st. The food was pretty decent thai, nothing spectacular. Ambience- nothing special. The main plus is that it was very cheap ( at least for lunch) and portions are good. But, they wanted to take our order the second we sat down, really annoying because the restaurant was not even close to full yet.
- Pros: good food, price
- Cons: little ambience, staff a little pushy
Solid Thai takeout
by segh
Having worked in the building above Thai Basil for 5 years, it has become my go-to meal. It's not creative or innovative. It's not fine dining or elegant or atmospheric. But it is consistently good American-Thai food. I have never eaten in the restaurant, but the staff with whom I order & pick up from are always polite and VERY fast. I don't usually wait more than 10 minutes from calling an order in to pick it up.
The dishes I've enjoyed most are: Spring Rolls; Fresh Basil Rolls; Chicken Satay; any of the soups or salads; Pad Thai; Yellow, Red or Green Curry. It's fairly inexpensive for this street and filling. They have excellent (& cheap) lunch specials for those who work in the area. I recommend it for those looking for a tasty & casual meal. In fact, I think I'll bring home some tonight for dinner!
Terrible Service
by bostonbobo
The food was okay while the service was terrible. Some of the servers had attitude. Not only they didn't greet their customers, they didn't even put a smile on their face. One waitress was yelling at me, "do you want anything else?" while I was in a conversation with my friends. How rude! Honestly, I didn't expect "great" service from them when I decided to dine there. But I didn't think it would be this bad.
- Cons: SERVICE
Solid Thai fare along Boston's busiest thoroughfare.

The Scene
The sleek look (lots of black lacquer, mirrors, a black tile floor, Thai decorative objects kept minimal) suits this middlebrow part of Newbury nicely, though the long, narrow garden-level space tends to get very noisy as soon as one patron raises his voice and everyone else speaks up to be heard. Parties of at least six can reserve the bamboo-mat rooms with classic low tables.
The Food
Noon or evening, start with a heavenly rendition of chicken coconut soup seasoned with galangal, lime juice and hot chilies. This is the best version of this soup we've tried, but the rest of the dishes, while uniformly good and accurately rated for spiciness on a scale of one to three chilies, don't quite match it.
What I Miss Most
by solitaire8
When I lived in Boston, I used to go to Thai Basil once a week. Either eat in or take out. The staff is wonderful (Nit is so sweet), they remember me even thought I have moved away and only go when I am in town (it is the only place I HAVE to go to when I return to Boston. The Tom Yum Chicken Soup is to die for; I haven't found any better in my new home of Chicago and beleive me I have tried. For me it is the one I measure all other Thai restaurants against.
- Pros: amazing food, staff, location
- Cons: little loud
