Let's be honest here, this place is a dive bar with nice tvs. The food is ok at best, the drinks are average and the service is horrible. As previous reviews have stated, security is downright rude and the servers and bartenders don't have a clue what they're doing.
I've given this place several chances, both when they were busy and when they were slow, and they just can't seem to get much of anything right.
The strange thing is that the Pour House a few doors down is owned by the same people and yet the atmosphere is completely different.
I just don't understand why anyone would go to Whiskey's when there are so many places nearby that are so much better in EVERY aspect (Dillon's, Sonsie, Cactus Club...). It's just not worth my time or money.
- Pros: TVs
- Cons: service, food, service, drinks, service...
Whiskey's Never Again
by bigtyler1
Just this past week, during a pivotal game between the Patriots and Jets, I went to Whiskeys because I knew there would be empty seats because the other great sports bars in the area (i.e. McGreevy's, Champions) were already packed. I asked for a seat by a tv which took 2 or 3 times for the hostess to get it right and finally was sat facing a nice flat screen. One problem though, the Bruins game was on. Now if someone was watching the blowout (4-0 bruins end of the 2nd period) I would have let them finish. But since no one was watching, I first asked the waitress to put the Pats game on and she said it would come on when the game started, which it didn't. Then I asked the hostess to change and she said she would get the manager to change it, which she didn't. Finally I asked the waitress again and she said that we had to keep it on since it was the only TV with the Bruins on, of which no one was watching.
I asked her to get the manager and explained to her the first rule of business, the customer is always right. Well, next thing you know, the manager comes over, not alone, but with his muscle, in case things got out of line and explained to me that I had made the waitress cry. he said he would get to it when he could which was b.s. because I saw him yucking it up with some young ladies while im trying to watch football. Not only that, but they have freakin Soulja Boy ,'Supaman dat ...' blaring in the background when clearly everyone wants to hear the game.
Basically when it all comes down to it, Whiskeys has gotten a little to high and mighter for themselves, after winning a contest put on by Maxim in which they were racked #1 neighborhood bar, whatever that means. The food has also gone downhill. The next time you will find me in Whiskeys will be when I am unemployed and can scrounge up $2.00 for a plate of 20 wings. Other than that, I was truly disappointed and you guys lost a great supporter of your bar.
- Pros: Beer selection (but so does every bar on Boylston) and Big Buck Hunter
- Cons: Music blaring while watching a game, staff, doormen, waitresses, bartenders, food, service
FOR YOUR OWN SAKE, DO NOT GO!

I attempted to spend a night at this bar with a few friends. After a few drinks, we were instructed to leave the bar because my friend could not handle any more alcohol. Despite his eloquent please otherwise, he was forcibly removed without reason and without explanation. He is of non-causcasian descent- draw your own conclusions.
There are other bars on Boylston St. that treat their customers with respect. You will be far better off patroning these establishments instead of Whiskey's.
- Pros: no positives
- Cons: poor service, treat customers poorly
Typical Boston
by trifecta23
I used to work here when I was in college for about two years so I'll be happy to shed some light onto things. First of all, we're almost told to be jerks with their no tolerance policy. The management is so quick to fire anyone that all the employees are on their toes at all times. There all no loyalties and the customer usually doesn't get great service. Also, how many nice bouncers are there? They're not supposed to be nice. The reason they're a-holes is because Whiskeys has been fined so much in the past that the bouncers are trained to be jerks. Some of the food is good, but I've seen the way the wings are prepared and you couldn't pay me to eat them. This isn't a place for 40 year olds either, it's a college bar and caters to the after word crowd. Service is bad because very few people are barely able to stick around to learn things. Overall, it's just a typical Boston bar (and the Pour House is owned by the same people).
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Takes forever to get a drink
fast service, good crowd, decent music, 10 cent wings

On a recent trip to Boston for work, 12 of us went to Whiskeys for dinner. When we walked through the door, we were met by a bouncer who told my co worker to remove his Yankee baseball cap if he wanted to stay. He refused, laughed it off, and we went to eat. Everything we ordered was overcooked, but we were so hungry we ate what we got. We then went to the bar, and trying to get one of the 5 bartenders to serve us was tough. We are not 21 year old trouble makers, but are in our mid 40s trying to enjoy ourselves, and are excellent tippers. Approximately two hours later, my friend with the baseball cap was surrounded by bouncers and told he had to leave. We asked for an explanation why we had to leave, but they refused to give us a reason. We left without incident. We then went to The Pour House, which is next door, and we were treated like gold.
Good Food - Terrible Service
by jstar27
I was at Whiskey's this past Sunday to watch the Pats game with one of my friends. Now we just thought we were getting terrible service from the female bartenders because we were girls. Turns out the guy next to us could barely get any service either. The bartenders kept forgetting our requests for things like menus, etc., and they barely came over to us to refill drinks. This is even after they took the empty glasses away! In my opinion, they need to hire more intelligent and slightly older bartenders who know what they are doing and actually pay attention to their customers (and maybe even a few males). Being a former bartender myself, I know how it works, and their service was unacceptable. On the upside, the $.10 wings and other food is great! Although, the beer has gotten quite pricy. $4.50 for a Miller Lite? Seriously??? I thought I was on Boylston Street, not Newbury Street.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Service
GREAT PLACE ALL AROUND FROM FOOD, DRINKS, AND SERVICE!
by amystar1000
This place was just an all around great place. Whether you are looking for the bar scene or more of the restaraunt atmosphere, they have it all. It is great for singles but is also great for couples too. When we first arrived we sat at the bar and had a drink. The service was great and lots of people to watch. You can either sit right at the bar or there a little tables all around the bar. Then we sat a a table for dinner over on the side where it is more like a restaraunt but its still right next to the bar so its not boring. Our waiter(Ethan) was awesome. We got the loaded nachos w/ grilled chicken and guacomole whcih were delicious! The Margarita's weren't bad either, they certainly aren't the best I've ever had but definitely up there, I'd rate the Marg's an 8 out of 10. We will definitely go back soon!
Door Guys Act Like They Are Working A Hollywood Party
by annae393
I will admit right off the bat that I have never eaten here but I have been for drinks twice, BAD experience both times. I am used to crowded bars, I understand long waits for drinks, bathrooms, and everything else. I do not however, believe that door men have a right to be rude. Both times they have been snappy and acted like they were doing me a favor for letting me in. The second time the guy asked me for a back-up immediately after I handed him my ID... he hadn't even looked at it. I may be 21, but I do not look young and I never get questioned at any bar in this city besides Whiskey's and its neighbor The Pour House. When I gave him my credit card he scrutinized both and actually told me to get out of the way while he looked at it so other people could come in. Then made some under-the-breath and just gave it back to me. Whatever, there are much nicer places to go in this city, even on Bolyston St. Also they will not let you sit in the booths or tables if you are not eating. I would understand this except when it is 9:30 pm and 3/4 of them are completely empty, please don't force me to stand around your nasty bar with 40 year old men. This place is trashy, don't bother.
- Pros: Location, Crowded (if you want that), Some of the bartenders
- Cons: Door guys, Other Staff
AVOID AT ALL COSTS
by jgirl731
This bar is awful...The manager Jeremy S. is a dink. I went to the bar on a Sat. night with two friends we had all been out having fun a Lir (right down the street and much more fun) and wanted to go to another place. We get in line and then my two friends go in I was looking for my ID which I had in my bag but it took me a few minutes to find and the Bouncer said he wouldn't let me in! He said my eyes were red and that I was drunk and it was taking too long for me to find my ID. I snuck into the bar and proceeded to get a drink at the bar (I guess the bartender didn't think I was too drunk) then I went out to have a smoke and they wouldn't let me back in...not even to tell my friends I was being kicked out for no reason except because the bouncers and manager practice invidious discrimination. The three bouncer then ganged up on me and got the manager too. DON"T EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!!!!!!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Everything go to Lir
