Overpriced except?????

Louis Boston is a Nice store with great & knowledgeable staff. The clothes are nice but way overpriced. However there are a few weeks a year when it's worth it. "Louis Sale" which is the 1st week after New years & The 1st week after July 4. All the products on the floor go to 50% OFF! These are the only times anybody should shop at Louis. Even at 50 off the prices are still high.
They also sell there unsold Sale pieces to Filene's Basement, so keep your eyes open and look for the Louis Tag next time your at Filenes in Newton
- Pros: Staff
- Cons: Price
The epitome of modern elegance, from conservative classics to contemporary styles, for men and women.

The Scene
Well-heeled men and women tired of Brooks Brothers but not quite loaded enough to splurge at Armani search for hipper threads here. Besides good inventory, the individual attention and a more personal shopping experience are strong selling points; Louis Boston offers the services of numerous personal consultants. A salon and a cafe make this more than just a shopping destination.
The Goods
Four floors of men's and women's designer apparel, from casual to office wear, with each collection in its own separate space. Men's fashions include designs by Helmut Lang, Ralph Lauren, noho, Luciano Barbera and Brioni; for women, there's Jil Sander, Betty's Room, Ieri e Domani and Apothecary cosmetics, among others. Expect to spend from $200 to $500 for most pieces--even T-shirts are in the $100 range.
yeah not so good

This place was hip a one time. Not any more. What happened? Don't waste your time just go to Barneys.

Louis Boston has lost it. Since Barney's arrival to Boston Louis has gotten rid of many brands because they want to be unique. In fact if any store in Boston picks up a line that they carry they'll drop it in an instant. And because of that they are left with jack. And beware of the vintage items on the first floor. Most of the items are purchased at a flee market and marked up a few 100%, and given some made up story. And what happened to their sub-par cafe?
Fashion Backward, Service Mixed, and Attitude Forward

I've been a world shopper of fine men's ready-to-wear for many years now. Louis Boston is not the worst but by no means the best. The styles are outdated (the suit selection of Brioni screams of 70's seatcovers fabric, Who wears a brown/tan checkpattern suit? The more forward clothing lines like Neil Barrett and Dries Van Norton are regarded as second tier designers with mediocre construction, compared to Jil Sander, Prada, YSL, Paul Smith, & DiorHomme. The shoe selection is unmentionable, and stylish denim is limited. I much more prefer Barneys in selection and service. I don't need snobby sales with my suits, not that you could find anything decent in that category, or worth wearing outside of a church. The men's sales people are mixed, some great introducers, most avoiders and judgmental. The kicker of this place is when you walk in, don't even glance at the people in the bottom level if you don't want bad looks and attitudes, especially if your wearing their pay check of half a year. Louis is trying to do the sameold, and in fashion, sameold is dead. They think they've got it all, but if you look around it's totally empty. One thing positive, the merchandising is good... IMO, go to Barneys select from top designers, and you'll find someone who really wants to work and help you out. If you shop at this store you'll won't look like the amount of money you spent.
- Pros: Merchanding, Parking, Location
- Cons: Expensive for medicore products, Attitude, Outdated styles, Mean Spirited
Horrible service
by sd2007
This is one of the worst places to shop in Boston. I was ignored and never greeted. The sales people merely glanced me over and continued chatting. The selection is spotty. I have no idea what everyone is raving about. Don't shop here unless you like bad service and wasting your time!
- Cons: bad service, spotty selection
Gorgeous clothes and rude, rude staff
by lafox
When I moved to Boston, everyone told me that Louis was the local equivalent of Barney's (my favorite place to shop in NYC). They also warned me that the sales staff are notoriously rude, and so far I've found that to be 100% true. I've been in the store 5 or 6 times and NEVER had a salesperson acknowledge my existence. Does the management want to be sending out these negative vibes, or are they just oblivious? It's frustrating- they have great + fabulous clothes, gift items, shoes- but I just can't bring myself to give these people any money. Thank goodness Barney's opened downtown- those of us who wanted to be treated kindly can shop there instead!
Reading other reviews makes it sound like the folks at Louis are nice to *some* people, but they're certainly not to me.
- Pros: Gorgeous clothes, parking, unique items
- Cons: rude sales staff
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
by pristinegal
I would highly recommend a shopping spree at Louis Boston. What a fabulous place. I am orginally from LA and shopping here felt like I never left home...although some fashion was a bit more conservative. The customer service was excellent. I received alot of personal attention and help. I highly recommend shopping here.
- Pros: Personal Attention, Cafe For A Nice Lunch
