GROSS & EXPENSIVE! NOT WORTH THE TRIP!
by ItsAmberDuh at Citysearch
I had the worst meal of my life at the Capital Grille. First, let me say that the menu consists of Steak, Steak, Steak, and more Steak. There is very little seafood, 1 chicken dish, and 1 lamb dish. No pasta, whatsoever. I ordered the grilled swordfish, and it was terrible. My husband (who eats everything) even said it was disgusting and didn't want it. I couldn't even get my dog to try it when I brought it home. The appetizers are OK (we had the smoked salmon platter, though the salmon was more raw than smoked, but whatever.) We had reservations for valentines day, and they sat us at the smallest table you can imagine (about the size of a small end-table) and we were crammed into a room well past the fire code. The wine list was extensive, but they charged $54 for a bottle of wine that I have since picked up at the liquor store for $12 -- not on sale. Since I had to rate it one star at the least, I'm going to say that one star is for the $8 onion rings. Both my husband and my dinners were overcooked. (he asked for medium, he got blackened. I had to use a knife to cut swordfish. Our server was neglectful, and the man serving the next table over ended up waiting on us most of the night. Basically, if you're near any other restaurant, I'd recommend you go there instead of the capital grille.
- Pros: Onion Rings
- Cons: Bad location, Bad Service, REALLY BAD FOOD, Bad Menu Selection
A serious, superb steakhouse attracts high rollers and local celebs to the foot of Newbury St.

The Scene
It's a bull market every night as countless business types carouse over expensive steaks and drinks. A stuffy, members-only atmosphere takes nothing away from the dining experience. The amazing wine list has won "Wine Spectator's" Award of Excellence. Service is truly exceptional, as waiters take pride in their efforts.
The Food
Traditional, filling steakhouse fare is impeccably presented to beef-lovers of all stripes. The dry-aged steaks, hand-cut daily, are good enough to make you forget there's a real world outside the restaurant. As the entrees are served a la carte, huge portions of excellent sides (mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, sauteed mushrooms) are a must. Fantastic seafood dishes are available, but steak's the star here, especially the steak au poivre, which comes drizzled in cognac sauce. Exceptional desserts include an unbelievably light cheesecake and a pistachio-covered key lime pie

Best Meal In Boston
by annieward at Citysearch
The Capital Grille has a great reputation around the country for a reason. The service was great. The place was full of life, and the food... All members of my party were extremely satisfied. My filet, the potatoes au gratin, the asparagus - all perfect. Quite honestly the best meal I have had in Boston. It's pricey but worth it.
- Pros: Amazing Food
- Cons: Cha-Ching

Exquisite steak and the BEST Calamari!!. the service is okay.

I usually don't like chain restaurants, but The Capital Grille has managed to remain on the list of frequent places to go for me. I have tried it in different cities, but The one in Newbury Street (Boston) has just been the BEST!! The FIlet is the best I have ever had and I have been there four times and have the best of the experiences. The Calamari is jst SPECTACULAR (watch out if you don;t like spicy food, because then you will in trouble with the Calamari). I really like the quality of the meat at this place and will keep coming back, eventhough it is a chain restaurant. Don't waste your time ordering desserts, they are not good (nationwide). For some reason the chain must have problems getting the right patry chef. .
- Pros: Thumbs up!! Dramatic Steak, Delicious CALAMARI. Decent wine list with moderated options.
- Cons: ok service, very noisy.
Perfect steaks and wonderfull service
by cliffo1234 at Citysearch
I have been to many grills and this one is the best. The service was impeccable and the overall quality of the meals was outstanding. I started with the steak tartar and would recommend it to anyone. The menu had a very nice selection although I tend to pick up if there are any vegetarian meals at expensive restaurants, didn't see any here. Well I guess that would be another reason for them being famous for their steaks; not to mention cuisine to die for. I would highly recommend The Capital Grill to anyone who can afford it. If you?re like me and can?t really afford it, then it is worth saving up for.
- Pros: Great meal and service
- Cons: A bit expensive
Great dinner

The food was great - we both ordered steak although the portions are larger than I would have liked. Great dessert (we skipped starters). Our waiter was very attentive and remember our wine (we ordered by the glass) when asked for a second glass. It was a birthday treat and I sneakily asked the waiter for something special with the dessert - he didn't bat an eyelid and said he'dl arrange for something. Cool !!!
- Pros: Good food, great service, nice atmosphere - a few romantic couples in the restaurant and mix with some tables with children all within the same room - they know how to run a well oiled restaurant!
- Cons: The price may not suit all pockets. Selection for wine by the glass could be larger - but this is a minor point.
Great steakhouse

Having been profoundly disappointed with Smith & Wolenskies and with a mediocre experience at the Palm, I was beginning to think Boston didn't have decent steakhouses. I was delighted to have the Capital Grille prove me wrong. The steaks were incredible (I had the Steak au Poivre and he had the Kona rubbed Strip Steak) as was the appetizer, the side of mushrooms and the dessert. The wine list is extensive and, as you can expect from a high-end steakhouse, on the pricy side. The "cheap" bottles run for $30, with most bottles starting around $40 and moving rapidly up. We were seated promptly and had a great server -- he was straight forward, friendly, personable and knew when to leave us alone so we could enjoy our meal. Yes, it's a bit noisy but not oppressively so -- my partner and I were able to have a conversation without raising our voices. I wouldn't call this a romantic date spot, but it's a great place to come for a fabulous steak or other generous (and perfectly prepared) piece of meat.
- Pros: Steaks, Service, Private club atmosphere
- Cons: Difficult to get reservations
talk about overrated

I can't believe this place is this well-reviewed. I ate their on the firm's tab recently for a recruiting event. Service was good, but ambience was terrible. Granted, we were seated in front of the kitchen, but it was just NOISY in this place. Like I couldn't hear the specials it was so loud. Second off, the food was above-average, but they were charging some fairly hefty prices (luckily I wasn't paying).
I got the filet mignon for dinner which was way too salty - and I like my foods salty! It was also a touch overdone despite ordering it medium rare - I'm happy I got the larger portion because at least the inside was still juicy (my friend who got the smaller size said his was somewhat tough all the way through). I also got the lobster mac and cheese which was essentially inedible - WAY too salty which was extremely disappointing.
I did get the shrimp cocktail and raw oysters which were very enjoyable (but I rarely have disliked either of those dishes anywhere).
Service was prompt and polite, though tough to overcome the noisy ambience and disappointing food given the price.
