unhealthy food

by acanidio

The food was good. The only problem is that I'm 100% sure they put the oil they use for frying into the dough of the bread and of the pasta. You will notice a mild but very persistent fried-oil aftertaste. It is similar to the smell of state fair fried food. I suspect that it is illegal since eating used oil may cause cancer.

  • Pros: good taste
  • Cons: they put used oil into the dough

Figs missed the boat

by bukmdano3

Why is Figs closed between lunch and dinner? We were looking for a place to have a bite and drinks, but found Figs to be closed. However, there looked to be a lot of staff in the restaurant and a very unprofessional server outside in front of the restaurant, on the phone, smoking a cigarette. Luckily, we found Bin 26 open and inviting down the street with a nice crowd of folks. Sorry Figs, but you missed out on several possible checks that afternoon!

Todd English's local chain of casual bistros specializes in gourmet, free-form pizzas.

by Contributor

In Short
Rarely a calm place to grab a meal, Figs is a local favorite for designer pizzas and salads. After nibbling on oniony focaccia, most diners move on to starters like lightly fried Rhode Island calamari or bacon and spinach salad. The 15 or so thin-crust pizza varieties are big enough for two and include eclectic toppings like figs and homemade chicken sausage. Unlike the other area location, the Charles St. location does not serve dessert.

Unique Pizza

by young_professional

I love the pizza here!!! It's thin, crispy, tasty, with unique ingredients. I am not a cheese lover, so this place is great for me since the pizza here is not piled with cheese. You can also order half and half pizza which is a benefit for people with different tastes. We had half fig&Procciutto half calamari&arugula pizza, and it was fantastic. The warm asparagas salad was very distinct too. I found the price to be very reasonable too, all below $20 for a giant pizza. The only downside is that the place is very small and the wait can be long.

  • Pros: Unique ingredients, Good location, Reasonable price
  • Cons: , long wait

Going, Going, Gone

by sgourmandp

When Figs first opened in '94, it was a unique place in Boston (Charlestown) that offered good food at reasonable prices. The pizza was fantastic and was the only place in Boston that offered thin crusty pizza, the way it should be. Now However, Figs is just another over-priced restaurant, with mediocre service and food (the pizza is now soggy), a classic attribute of the Todd English empire.

  • Cons: food, value

Figettaboutit!!

by vethomecalls

Both experiences at Figs were terrible. Why 2 experiences? With all the hype I thought I ordered wrong the first time. Speaking only of the pizza here, don't waste your time. There's a reason why the place in never packed. Part of the problem is the toppings are too esoteric. If they kept the ingredients simple, I think the pizza would be better. It's just overpriced, mediocre pizza.

  • Pros: Never crowded, close to home
  • Cons: overpriced, terrible pizza

2 Furoofy

by Jim_Dodge

Todd English has taken something as good as your basic pizza and bastardized it into some nuvue bullc@#p by putting things on Pizza that should never even come in contact with dough. Goat cheese and roasted chicken with portabella mushrooms on a whole wheat crust, etc. blah, blah, blah. Enough of this fancy stuff!

You want good PIZZA?! Try Aurelio's on the far southside of Chicago where I'm from. Since moving out East 20 years ago, I haven't had really good Pizza since!

Figs on Charles Street was better as Bell Canto's Pizza way back when.
