Unfriendly Service. Had a gift certificate that expired yesterday and they will not honor it. Very unfriendly business and would definitely not recommend to anyone.

call before you go. went for some of the "best" pastrami the other day, had to drive around 3 times to find parking, went in, and the butcher says...............wre dont have any????? so call before you go, the best on the block, is not the best stocked.

By far, the best grocery on Charles Street. I am French, I live in the Beacon Hill and I am very picky about food and cheese, and Savenor has a good selection of both AND something rare in the US, the cheese are actually eatable! The service is very nice and friendly and the vegetables are fresh.

Hints: If you buy a French cheese (and any French product), it is mandatory in France to indicate the expiration date of the product (a consommer de preference avant) and not the "best sale date"... if you see a product which expiration date was yesterday DON'T EAT IT, if you see a product where the expiration date do not appear or was hidden or removed, DON'T EAT IT.

I am shocked all the time I see this happen and it happens very often in other high-end grocery shops (check De Lucas on the other end of Charles Street if you want to see)

This classic Beacon Hill grocery store offers exotic game, gourmet-to-go meals and delectable desserts.. In Short
The traditional wooden shelves, hanging baskets and pots and pans are reminiscent of 1939, when Savenor's first opened. With its tony selection and not-so-cheap prices, the market caters to the upper-crust Beacon Hill crowd. The store carries produce, dry goods, bakery items and dairy products from more than 150 suppliers. Check out the selection of handmade ravioli with fillings like chicken walnut and lobster. Pâté flavors include duck mousse with port, salmon, and spinach.

Good cheese.. Having lived in France, I'm always looking for someplace where I can get GOOD cheese, preferably French, and Savenor's fits the bill. They have a good selection of cow, goat, and sheep's milk cheeses and generally have baguettes available (though they're not necessarily French-style "croustillant" baguettes). There's also a good selection of foie gras. All in all, it's a bit pricey, but worth the trip for an occasional gourmet treat.

FABULOUS. The freshest salmon I ever purchased came from Savenor's. Their meats are incredible, as wells as their cheeses and breads. FABULOUS!

over priced. exceptional quality veal, beef and lamb can be obtained here. The mutiflavored ravioli are Venda ravioli from Providence and can be bought in Providence for half the price and they'll probably be fresher. Good selection of mushrooms, but much of its produce quality is no different then chain supermarkets.

service rules. It goes without saying that all the meat whether exotic or merely hamburger is fabulous. What makes the difference is the service. At Savenors, you get absolutly what you ask for..no matter how obscure a cut of meat you want. No point in being a foodie if you can't get the perfect ingredients. Heaven would be having Savenors next door to SouthEnd Formmagio right there on Charles St.
