Overpriced. Fair pizza.

I stopped by Cafe Pompeii for a couple slices of pizza and a coke. The restaurant itself looks fine. A far amount of people dining. Looks like a fair amount of restaurants of the North End in the evening. Ordered a two slices of cheese and a coke and was blown away by the price (example: $2 for a can of Coke). However, I said to myself "maybe the pizza is worth the price". Sadly, it was not. The pizza is average. Nothing to write home about. However, late at night, not many places in the North End still serve slices (so options are limited). So, if you really, really, really want a slice of pizza....it's an option. If not, I would go somewhere else.
- Pros: Average Pizza, Nice looking restaurant
- Cons: Value

This is a wonderful cafe to have a cappuccino and dessert. Nice decor and speedy service even when super busy at midnight. You can order pizza here late night too. There is seating downstairs with larger tables for big groups.

I thought after reading all of these reviews that i couldnt believe that it was the same place. The food was absolutley fantastic, very reasonabley priced and the wait staff was very friendly. The bus boy was very friendly even to the point of entertaining a customer who was waiting for a friend to arrive. I thought that this was amazing place to dine.
- Pros: Wait Staff, Prices, Food
- Cons: All the other reviews

I was visiting boston and went to Little Italy with two other coworkers and stumbled upon Pompei. From the outside, the restaurant decor looks decent, the menu was appealing. However, when we asked for a table, we were put in the basement where the ambience was completely different. Our table was wobbly, the restaurant wasn't very clean, I had to ask for 3 different glasses before getting a clean one. Our waiter was an idiot and extremely unprofessional. He was trying to figure out the prices of the dishes we ordered so that it could save him time to do the calculations afterwards...what the heck is that?! That made us worry very much about our food, but to our surprise, the food was actually quite good and portions were big. Finally, to remind us of their poor service, when we asked for a receipt for reimbursement purposes, the waiter gave us this meaningless stub. Will not be back for sure!
- Pros: hot food
- Cons: service, ambience, cleaningness
Please avoid it like you would the plague!

I went with my 7 year old daughter and a friend. The waitress looked at us like we were crazy when my daughter asked to use the bathroom. Once we came back we had to seat ourselves and after 5 mins of chatting behind us we had to ask for menus. It took her 15 mins t o come back to the table and tell us the specials. She was rude and never refilled our drinks. We got up several times to ask for more water and she then brought out the bill before we were done eating. She never asked if we wanted dessert and we then had to get up to pay the bill after waiting for her to come back to the table. When we got up the person at the back were the coffee is told us that it wasn't her job to be our cashier.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Staff, Staff, staff

Our waitress spilled my friends soda on her lap, normally not a big deal. But when she NEVER apologized, didnt clean up the mess and NEVER replaced the soda we started to get pissed. The buss boy who barely mopped the floor and left the table dripping with sticky soda and ice cubes, slammed the metal chair causing us all the jump and half the restaurant to turn around didn't blink an eye. When we told our waitress about his aggressive behavior she responded by informing us that, "that's just the way he is". What?! We were still charged for the soda that my friend never drank and my other friends calzone was overcharged by $5.00. We told the manager about our experience. He never apologized, he just told us we didnt have to pay for the soda. Our waitress didnt drop off the bill, some random bus boy did.
- Pros: cheap food, comic value
- Cons: terrible service

I went here for a friend's birthday. We were seated late and the waitress did not come over for 20 minutes. She got my friend's order wrong and didn't write my order down. No apology. Spoke to manager who was also not apologetic. We started our meals while the other 6 finished. Neither waitress not manager came over to check on us during meal. Bill came and nothing was taken off for mistakes-plus 20% gratuity was added...such nerve. When asked to put some on credit card and give us change of 2 twenties (since there were 6 of us paying separately), waitress just returned bill minus money...said that $ was hers. Sounds crazy, I know. Worse if you lived through it. DO NOT waste your time or money.
- Cons: ambience, staff, mediocre food

I like Pompei because it offers a menu full of tempting options and is less expensive than other North End restaurants. Our waitress was prompt and did a great job meeting our requests. We got in on a Sunday evening without reservations, but it was definetely still crowded. Great people watching. A little crowded and noisy for an intimate conversation.
- Pros: People watching, inexpensive
- Cons: Crowded
Only for late night dining purposes

I go here probably once or twice a month, even though overall, it probably has the most mediocre food and service in the North End. That's because it's open very late and does the basics okay. If you are coming out here for a special night, this is definitely not the place. If you are starving at midnight after a long night of drinking at the Sail Loft, then Cafe Pompeii is perfect. Reasonable and passable fare.
- Pros: Open late
- Cons: Mediocre food
marvelous mussels!

Craving mussels, we stopped at Cafe Pompei, mostly because there was no line. It was wonderful! The bread was warm and crusty with a chewy center, and the mussels marinara were the best I've had in some time. Service was great, a perfect date. We're going back this week.
- Pros: great food, great service, great ambience
