TERRIBLE!!

I went here the other day with my parents and I will never ever go back. First they wouldn't take a 6:15 reservation on a Wednesday night. We figured no big deal so we went anyway. From the moment we sat down it felt as though the waitress was trying to rush us out (and there were only two other families in the place). Being with my parents I didn't want to make a big deal of it. We ordered an appetizer, which was good; however, as we were eating the waitress kept yelling at two kids (customers) asking them to sit down and be quiet. Then the show began...from the dining room you can see the cooks cooking and the waitress began yelling at the cook for whatever reason. Then they went into a back area and she proceeded to scream at the top of her lungs at the poor cook using every swear in the book. Did she not realize that her customers could hear her? We had already placed our order so I figured that we would stay, and again, since I was with my parents I didn't want to create a scene. This was the most unprofessional restaurant I have ever been in. Not only did the waitress make a terrible fool of herself with the screaming incident she was the world's worst waitress as she was very mean and short with us. They also automatically include their tip in the bill which was absolutely ridiculous!! I wouldn't have even given her a penny. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!

I can't comment on the food because we walked out!

My husband and I were looking forward to going here based upon the good things we have heard about the food at this restaurant. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try it because we walked out. When I asked whether I could have pasta instead of gnocchi in a dish (with a pomodoro sauce, which is perfectly reasonable), the rude server rolled her eyes at me and said that she would see what she could do. She then proceeded to loudly tell both the kitchen staff and the other server that we were very demanding and wanted to modify everything. At that point, we paid for our half-drunk wine and left. If you want to have a relaxing night out, take a pass on this place.

• Pros: Not to0 pricey, good location, homey interior
• Cons: You may end up getting impossibly rude waitstaff

Best (not your typical) Italian in Boston

Wow, absolutely superb! I haven't eaten this well in a very long time. Everything, from the Tortellini Alla Bolognese to the European style cakes was to die for! The service was impeccable. All of this for a very reasonable price compared to the near-by Italian restaurants.

I think this is an excellent venue for a fabulous dinner date with that someone special. Highly, highly recommended!

Oh Yeah!

We had a fabulous time, great food, terrific waiter (Leo) and the price was right. We ate here on a Friday night at :00 p.m. We had made reservations, which may not have been necesarry, and sat right down in this cozy (about 7 tables upstairs) small room. Easy view of the plates comming out of the kitchen, which all looked an smelled better than the next. I would highly recommend the Malloreddus alla campidanese ~ Classic Sardinian pasta dish served in a savory meat sauce made with sausage, lamb, diced vegetables, red wine and tomatoes. My wife had the Orecchiette alla pugliese ~ Orecchiette pasta sauteed with extra virgin olive oil, garlic, broccoli rabe and sausage meat, touch of white wine. These dishes were each more than enogh for one (although not really big enough to share), but we couldn't stop eating, it was so good! Nice wine selection added to the meal. Even thought the front door emptied directly into the room, on this cold night, we were comfortable the enitre time. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable. He made good suggestions and asked helpful questions about our likes and dislikes. We did not see the downstairs, although a number of very happy customers exited periodically during the evenning. This is not a fancy restaurant - jeans are fine - but the food is just great!

Quite disappointing

We were excited to try this place, but our experience was disappointing. Seated in the basement, which was fine, but we were definitely at the worst possible table, close to the stairs with a view of a disorganized open closet with some stereo equipment. (The other side of the table at least got to see some other tables and a wine cellar.) Salads were good, fried calamari appetizer was good. But all 4 entrees were disappointments, seriously lacking in flavor. There are too many good restaurants in the North End - we won't be back to this one.

This hidden North End gem's delectable Italian fare is well worth the hunt.

The Scene
Sequestered at the other, less-bustling end of Hanover Street, this North End hideaway feels like your own secret restaurant. Low beamed ceilings and plaster walls make the tiny downstairs dining room feel like a catacomb, while warm red walls create a cozy feel in the small upstairs area. An unobtrusive staff never disturbs the tranquil and romantic setting.

The Food
Immense portions come from the kitchen, piping hot and full of fresh flavors. A bruschetta appetizer incorporates black olives and plum capers, a nice twist on the traditional dish. Textures compliment each other in the gnocchi con arogosta, with fresh lobster, plum tomatoes and creamy pesto. Oversized three-cheese ravioli, spiced with mint leaves, melt sublimely in the mouth. Grilled veal chops stuffed with mozzarella, roasted peppers and butternut squash are flavorful and tender. Tropical fruit sorbet, served using the fruit itself as a bowl, is a refreshing dessert.

An "Italian Gem"

aurizios is an Italian gem that presents a charming and cozy ambiance to the North End. The menu features a great selection of offerings and the wine list is ideal. The food is deliciously prepared (excellent) and served by a friendly and warm wait staff. The dining experience I had was impeccable and I highly recommend Maurizios to anyone.

Average and Slow

It was a quiet night. 8 of us went to Maurizio's expecting a unique, warm experience. Despite a nearly desolate restaurant, we were put in the basement (it is nothing more than a basement!). Service was intermittent. Food came out in fits and starts (one person had to wait for their entree so long that the rest of the entrees were getting cold due to politeness). Food was shockingly average - basic mid-Italian fare, nothing really creative. Weak wine list. A disappointment.

near perfection

This was a great dining experience. The hostess greeted us warmly, the wait staff was excellent and the food was outstanding. We were seated facing the back room in the lower level, but other than that, this was a great experience I can easily recommend to anyone.
