Best Ameretti cookies I ever had for a long time, unpleasant service

by samychabbicom at Citysearch

I picked up a box of Ameretti cookies and bites of "chocolate diped cake". The cookies were amazing! the cake bites average. The service was poor. It seemed liked one of the owner was training a new hire and was overly agressive (condensending tone). When he was showing me the macoroon cookies (aparently stored in the fridge), the owner jumped in and made a comment directly to him saying he needed to quickly close the door as cold air was being lost.

I was trying to figure out what they caried (as everything was everywhere)...but felt being rushed (even though I was the only one in the store) and not much of an effort made in understanding what I was looking for. Everytime I asked a question, the new hire would answer and then the owner will be correcting him right away, including asking him not to give out "all the details about the item"...I did not feel confortable being part of this.

I picked a to go box of the 2 items not expecting much. When I opened latter at the hotel I was blown away by the taste of the macaroon cookies. They were soft in the middle, crunchy outside, not overly sweet, and the taste of the almond was just right (topped with pine nuts). The dipped cake bites (not sure what they were called) were OK, nothing special.

Had I not had such of unfriendly vibe from the owner I would have picked up the phone and said what awsome cookies they have.

  • Pros: Amazing Amacoroon cookies- Best I ever had
  • Cons: Service

Family-owned North End bakery churns out Italian pastries, including award-winning cannolis and lobster tails.

A great place

by emm05 at Citysearch

The best cannoli I have ever had... As for the cat, they do have one in the store but there is a big metal gate covering all of the windows when they are closed so I don't believe the review that claims that the cat roams when the place is closed. All of the food that has been out on the days I have gone there has been covered.

Authentic Italian Pastry

by saturnbabi at Citysearch

I read another review about a cat, but I have been going to Maria's for awhile and find this difficult to believe. Plus there is a big metal door in the front when it is closed that no one would be able to see through so go figure. The cannolis are excellent and the pizelle and cookies that I have tried are wonderful also. I would highly recommend this bakery
