Santarpios!
So last night my better half and I decided to do the age old taste test between two fabled institutions in Boston, Santarpios in East Boston, and the Regina in the North End. While we always go to Santarpios we decided to give the Regina a shot since neither one of us have been there in quite a while. This is what we came away with:
Regina has lost some of that local ambiance. Meaning it is too well lit, rather touristy and has their logo plastered all over the place. Whether it is on paper plates, napkins, cups, Regina always contently reminds you that you are there and they are a Boston institution since 1926. Does anyone really give a damn how old they are? I mean, first off they give you menus, they have chicken pizza, and no wine in carafes. While at Santapios there is no constant reminder where you are because the pizza stands on its own. The sauce isn't watery and the crust actually has flavor to it!
All in all, the Regina has ceased being a local institution and has gone the way of a mediocre chain restaurant, with faint reminders of it's once grandeur. Do yourself a favor and skip the Regina and head straight to East Boston and Santarpios!
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Everything else
Regina's just a Tourist Attraction
by kpohhh at Citysearch
Pizza Regina is just a tourist attraction. In return, it gets raving reviews for the first timer. I will admit, the reviews here are correct. The pie can be good at times, other times it's laced with charcoal. The staff is unpleasant, and you always wait outside. I say, walk another 2 or 3 blocks down Salem and stop in at Ernesto's Pizza. There you will find a consistant pie I name "the best pizza in Boston," and more importantly, "the best crust in Boston."
- Pros: Cheep Beer,
- Cons: Inconsistant pizza
Very mediocre, pizza -- always coated in charcoal. Terrible service to boot.

As everyone knows, you don't go here for the service, which is rude beyond belief. The problem is the pizza is not very good. If you've ever been to NYC or Chicago, you will be sorely disappointed by Pizzeria Regina. The large pies are almost always coated in charcoal (on both sides), which is quite disgusting. Order small pies only and the odds are much better that you'll get something edible. Sodas by the cup are also ridiculously small. In short, Boston certainly has much better pizza than this.
It's time for this place to stop coasting on its reputation. It would go out of business in NYC faster than a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Bad pizza, Rude waitstaff, Very noisy
Sauce to watery
by jeters4me at Citysearch
Had fun in the North End looking forward to FABULOUS pizza.....didnt happen... it was good but it didnt knock me over by any means, finding a hair in it just blew it completely! The sauce was just to watery for me.
Over-rated

The pies are average-above average. I have ordered from them three times. The crust is fair. It pales in comparison to a New York/New Haven pie.

Many years ago the pizza used to be awesome. It had a thin chewy crust, with a delicious tomato sauce and just a little olive oil in the center. The oil was definitely added before the pizza was put in the oven, none of this after it'scooked crap to try and impress people without taking the time to cook it. The crust was crisy around the edges but chewy in the center probably because of the plentiful sauce used. And the cheese was just as good too, like a delicious melted provolone/mozzarella mix. Of course even as a kid I knew it wouldn't last. Now their pizza tastes likeDomino's. Bottom line. A thick chewy blob, thrown together without real skill. Of course it's all been commercialized. The atmosphere is alright. Lots of people out for a good time. The service: nothing special. The pizza: I don't go there much.
Regina OK but....

not like it used to be. Seems like the sauce has changed and maybe using a poorer grade of cheese, ten, twenty and more years ago nobody could touch Pizzaria Regina.
- Pros: waitstaff is a riot!!
- Cons: tough parking

Good pizza. Not boston's best. Known more for
reputation tham acutal product. If you like gooey,
greasy, heaped on topping pizza's, this is the place.
