Don't judge a book. . .

by srw9 at Citysearch

So, when we moved to this neighborhood, I thought this little place looked kind of dilapidated. I never imagined this was the very place a friend had once mentioned as being the best Chinese food in Chinatown. He wasn?t lying, though. We got takeout from there ? fantastic. The Peking ravioli are perfect and addictive, and the spicy calamari was just right. Don?t be fooled by the outside, the small dining area is clean, albeit austere. I see much more King Fung Garden in my future.

  • Pros: good service, good value, authentic Chinese food
  • Cons: tiny dining area

Don't let the shabby exterior fool you: This hole in the wall is Chinatown's best kept and most delicious secret.

The Scene
Little wonder many of Boston's celebrity chefs dine here on their nights off. The place doesn't look like much, but the food is transcendent.

The Food
Aficionados flock here for the authentic Mongolian fire pot (raw meats and vegetables poached in boiling stock) and the best Peking duck in Boston (order 24 hours in advance). The homemade dumplings are exceptional: Dip steamed pork buns in a mixture of soy sauce, vinegar and slivered ginger; dunk Peking ravioli in hot-chili sauce and soy. Shanghai chow mein is a rustic, buckwheat-noodle dish that's comforting and filling; rice cake with pork and pickled turnip is a gnocchi-like stir-fry--tasty and texturally terrific.

King Fung Garden is a great little unpretentious restaurant on the threshold of Boston's China Town offering up delectible dishes for an outrageous value....very good on the pocketbook and at times beyond words for the effect on the palette. I eat there several times per month. When alone, I have the peking raviloi (6) for just over $3.00. If you're with a crowd of storyteller's then settle in with the Mongolian Hot Pot and cook you're own fish, and vegetables. The service is a marathon of one around a small room with 6 tables. The rice texture is stickey, soft and flavorful and ...it's white rice. The Chow Foon is masterful. The restroom is tiny but clean and stocked. 9/10. Bon Appetite.......

Peking Ravioli

by rbel_lee at Citysearch

This is the best place to go to for Peking Ravioli!!!! It's not the dry doughy stuff you find at other places, rather the ravioli comes in a thin wrapping with just the right amount of meat, with excellent flavor and an awesome dipping sauce.

Other recommendations: Pork with Lilly Flowers, Beef Shanghai noodles, Steamed Dumplings, Hot 'n' Sour soup, and their Hot Pot (good for 4 people).

  • Pros: Inexpensive, Good service
