My favorite restaurant in Chinatown

This place is very good. The food is not greasy, and it always tastes fresh. The appetizers are delicious.
- Pros: food, value, nice decor
*** HORRIABLE EXPERIENCE ***
by ulovekathy
I was all excited to look for a nice restaurant for the coming CHINESE NEW YEAR!! I have family coming from overseas this year so I wanted to try out the food in the restaurant before taking them.
While I was ordering, I was told that the restaurant is changing style and couple of dishes that are on the menu might not be available. So I ordered what they said that was available. Eventually, one of the vegi dish came after I sat down for 30 minutes. then guess what I was half way through my dish and I was told they DON'T HAVE the rest of the order!!
I only had vegi after I sat down in the restaurant for 45 minutes. They gave me the menu that they don't do anymore for me to order!!
*** THIS IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO ***
Worst service I have ever experienced
by njgemini12
My 11 co-workers and I went to New Shanghai with a reservation for noon. We placed our Dim Sum order and by 1:30 the only thing we were served was a plate of friend rice. We finally walked out and to make matters worse, they refused to comp our "meal." Do yourself a favor -- visit one of the other eateries in Chinatown! This place is HORRIBLE.
DISASTER
by jilliacono
Brought 11 people there for an office celebration - and made a reservation so they would know to expect such a large group. First off. the staff was confused when we ordered Dim Sum, they threw plates at us and we had to repetedly ask to order drinks. After 45 minutes of sitting there we had nothing to eat except 1 order of chicken fingers and rice. They even tried to pass off someone else's order on to us. We left after they told us that our order was 'cooking'. Came back to the office still hungry, but I guess it gives us a good story to share with the 2000 people we work with.
Thanks for making our colleague's celebration so memorable.
Bad Service!

Myself and some co-workers had reservations to celebrate a recent engagement at New Shanghai today. After an hour + we had only rice, a few app's and drinks and our food was no where to be found...it was never made. After waiting that long with no respect or answers as to what was taking so long we were so disgusted that we left! Still hungry. Worst service I have ever seen!
A cut above
by gregfoley
The setting is comfortable and elegant for Chinatown, with white tablecloths. We had to ask for water or refills a couple of times. The food was a cut above: the boneless barbecued ribs appetizer was good though a bit dry; the scallops with black bean sauce were excellent. Even starred dishes aren't hot.
- Pros: setting, food
Sharp looks and Chef C.K. Sau's finesse make this Chinatown eatery a top choice.

The Scene
White linen tablecloths and neat and attentive waitstaff signal the upscale breeding behind this fancier, more formal restaurant than most in Chinatown. It's a good place for a date or serious (but inexpensive) business entertaining.
The Food
Chef C.K. Sau is versed in both Shanghai and Cantonese styles, creating bold meat plates and subtle seafood. Rich dishes with hot garlic sauce (shredded pork and chicken) or spicy orange sauce make for hearty winter dining. Sau is adept at using locally available materials--sea bass for a truly delectable Hunan whole fish, though tradition dictates freshwater fish. Forget breaded appetizers (though beef teriyaki is fine, and boneless spare ribs are sublime) and opt for an entree per person, rice and a big plate of pea tendrils sauteed with garlic. Don't worry about the "hot" stars--even the spiciest dishes are gentle.

You got to ask for the famouse Chinese Chef, C.K. Sau to make your food. Ask him to make you somthing special. Something that's not on the menu. You will love it.
- Pros: great great food
- Cons: street parking
Worse service ever!
by mdy1979
My fiance & I went on Valentine's day. Our waitress took over 20 minutes before coming to us & 1st & only time. We ordered & asked for 2 drinks. When the food was dropped off the drinks were not we again had to ask someone for our drinks & extra sauce since they supplied us with a very small dish & we never got it. Not once did anyone come to see how it was or if we needed anything. We waited an hour after we were done eating & still no check. As we put on our jackets to leave a waiter left it for us. This place wasn't even busy! There is no excuse. On a scale of 1-10 (10 being excellent) the service was a minus -100!!
- Pros: inexpensive, seated quickly, good food
- Cons: awful service, waiting was very long
great food

CK is a chef's chef. Ask him what to order though I suggest going heavy on the seafood.
Eel is a particularly good bet here.
- Pros: inexpensive, fresh ingredients, not crowded
- Cons: poor parking
