Always fun for kids and adults

by Aym

This is a place I regularly bring guests, but it never gets boring. The big tank in the middle is always a highlight. If you get there at feeding time you can see some of the more secretive inhabitants.

  • Pros: Get up close and personal with marine life
  • Cons: Crowds

Kids and grownups alike get a kick out of spying on exotic sea-dwellers.

by Contributor

The Scene
Within its compact exhibit space, the aquarium shows off everything from a 500-pound sea turtle to a ghostly swirl of jellyfish just inside the front entrance. Flap your wings at the African and rockhopper penguins basking in the floodlights, then follow the spiral walkway up and around the Giant Ocean Tank. Ask about feeding times--sometimes you can stand inches from divers hand-feeding undersea creatures. Kids will want to catch the sea lion presentation (you'll enjoy it, too, if you're a fan of unabashed animal cuteness); the tricks are amusing, but won't be mistaken for a sophsiticated SeaWorld performance.

The Experience
Crowds can be a problem at this aquarium. On weekends, arrive either at opening time or toward the end of the day to avoid them. On weekdays, things quiet down after school trips depart mid-afternoon.

The place I always bring my guests to, whether they are from out of state or from across the oceans, is The New England Aquarium. They have so many fascinating things to see, its got a great, central location on the harbor and I love that this Boston institution is recognized around the world for its impressive efforts to protect the world of water that we all rely upon for our survival.

  • Pros: Always Lots to see, great, convenient loc, unique experience

Should visit

by Woof33

Went to the Aquarium recently with my wife on a trip to Boston. We enjoyed the experience, despite the fact that the place was immensely crowded. There's much to see, so I would recommend that you go a bit on the "off-hours". Otherwise, you're pretty much breathing everyone else's exhaled breath for the duration. I'd still return! You should check around for deals, i.e. combo-packs for the harbour cruise, aquarium and trolley, as it ends up being a bit cheaper.

  • Pros: Exhibits
  • Cons: Crowded
