The site of John F. Kennedy's last campaign speech is an important mark on the Freedom Trail.
by Contributor
The Background
Site of the first town meeting in America, Faneuil Hall was host to revolutionary gatherings in the 18th century, antislavery assemblies in the 19th and temperance and women's suffrage rallies in the 20th. Hence its moniker, the "Cradle of Liberty"--ironic, because the place was built by merchant Peter Faneuil with proceeds from the slave trade.
Features
Daniel Webster, Frederick Douglass, Jefferson Davis and Susan B. Anthony spoke in the Great Hall, and John F. Kennedy made his last campaign speech here. But perhaps the most interesting feature of this building on the Freedom Trail is hidden in its attic: the museum of the oldest chartered military organization in the Western Hemisphere, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, whose eclectic collection spills into anterooms and hallways.

Faneuil Hall is a great place for all ages. I've taken my 5 year old niece, teenaged cousins and not so teenaged people. We take the T which is so convenient - that's half the fun. Always a variety of foods to try and there is usually some type of street corner entertainment to enjoy for those not interested in shopping.
Locals refer to it as "Faneuil Hall"

How do you tell one is a tourist in Boston? When one refers to Faneuil Hall as "Quincy Market." It gets EXTREMELY crowded from May - August, especially during weekends. One sticks out amongst the crowd here if they DON'T have either a camera/camcorder, map/tour guide, a sticker indicating that they are part of a tour group, or wearing some sort of souvenir hat/t-shirt/sweatshirt. Keep an eye out, too, on the hordes of school-age children running all over the place w/ their school groups on field trips. Other than that, it's a great attraction for out-of-towners, but for someone who has lived in the city for the past 10 years, it's a place I only go to when I am entertaining out-of-town guests.
- Pros: Group-friendly, Good for kids, Fun atmosphere
- Cons: Overcrowded, Too touristy
