Did not honor gift certificate
by jeffman1099 at Citysearch
We had a gift card for $25 off that we had purchased specifically for this restaurant. Upon showing it to the waitress when we were seated, the manager came over and said he would not honor it unless we spent $70 (the gift certificate clearly says minimum purchase of $35).
and to add insult to injury, the manager then proceeded to say things such as 'we've had other customers come and this has not been a problem,' as if it is our fault for not being happy that they were scamming us and committing a crime. They also said 'it's very easy to spend $70 here.' We only intended to order two entrees (~$25), meaning we wouldn't make the $70 mark.
if my understanding of the law is correct, this constitutes fraud. you can understand we left feeling horrible horrible for having spent money for a gift certificate that the restaurant would not honor.
Besides the gift certificate, we had to go searching throughout the restaurant to find someone to seat us.
- Cons: Scam
A great dining experience

We fully enjoyed having dinner with you. Thank you! Your sauces were excellent. Your website, by the way, was instrumental in choosing your restaurant. The pictures and the site itself are true to the meal: 100% top-class. Great job all the way around. We WILL be back.
- Pros: Great staff, great food
- Cons: None.
Italian at its finest!
by rasmister at Citysearch
Yesterday evening we had an opportunity on our vacation to enjoy a quaint and "sinatra" style Italian restaurant in the Italian section of downtown Boston called Davide's. The owner Frank greeted us at the door, with a smile and even though we were 30 minutes early, he seated us an shared a little bit about his restaurant and philosophy. Before we knew it we were feasting on Italian cousine, the best we've ever had. Our waiter, Tim, was congenial, friendly and full of information and guidance about the city. After our meal, I asked to meet the chefs, among them were the owner Frank and Wanda - it was a great experience and a dinner of a life time...
Highly Recommended.
- Pros: Perfectly Italian everything
The best in the North End

The dinner at Davide was outstanding. Prompt seating, excellent service and outstanding food. The wine list was excellent and diverse. Serving my 16 guests for dinner was prompt.
Fine dining? Please! Save your time and money!

Where do I begin?? Upon arrival, we had to wait 10 minutes before anyone acknowledged our party. Then we were told to go next door to have a drink as we arrived 20 min. before our reservation. Funny because the place wasn't half full. Our table service was horrendous-we were told our appetizer and meal order had to go in at the same time and we couldn't get bread at the table until our order was placed. The food was ok-not great as the price and ratings suggested. Our waiter didn't have time to wait on us, he was more interested in impressing the table next to us filled with 21 year olds. It took 20 minutes once we got our check to waive anyone over to take our bill-thank goodness the busboy was on the job! Oh yeah, and check your car before you leave if you have valeted it-our brand new car was side swiped and the marks were obviously tried to be wiped off-they denied it of course.
Where NOT to go

We went to Davide for dinner based on its high ratings and great reviews, but the experience was beyond disappointing. It all started with the cold bread we were served(at first I thought it was probably because of the unusually cold weather) but that was just the beginning to many more disappointments to come. Our appetitzers(soup of the day and salads) were bland and unexciting. The lobster ravioli was so far off I wasn't sure what was stuffed inside the thick 4 pieces of dough. The stuffing was an orange looking whipped cream that had a seafood taste which could be lobster, or not. I've had lobster ravioli many times to know that it was plain rip off at $24 an order. To sum it all up, everything from the presentation to the tastes of the food was nothing to write home about.
This subterranean restaurant's uncomplicated Italian cuisine has attracted a loyal clientele for over two decades.

The Scene
Davide's nondescript location--on the edge of the North End, across the street from a quiet stretch of waterfront--doesn't prepare diners for its charming, Old World interior. Those looking to carry on an intimate rendezvous should ask to be seated in one of the high-backed banquettes. The restaurant's wine cellar, with its extensive selection of domestic and imported wines and champagnes, has won national acclaim. A reserved, professional waitstaff keeps in line with the environment.
The Food
Chef/Proprietor Franco Caritano's kitchen dishes up a straightforward menu of handmade pastas, fresh seafood, and classic meat dishes (the house specialty veal scaloppini is sure to satisfy). Consider starting with an order of simple ricotta cavatelli or a flavorful Caesar salad (prepared tableside) before moving onto a hearty veal chop that's stuffed with prosciutto and fontina. Only dessert disappoints, as a bland slice of cheesecake is about as good as it gets among the menu's limited options.
Fine dining at its best! Excellent service and food!

I spent an unbelievable night there with my girlfriend and would suggest no better place to wine and dine a special someone. The beautiful dining room with high banquets can't be matched anywhere in the north end or even boston for that matter. Very intimate and friendly the service was unbelievable. The table side Caesar salad for two is AMAZING, they make it right there from scratch! does anyone even do that anymore? The wine list was exceptional. And the waiter was very knowledgable and you could tell he wanted us to have a great evening and wasn't trying to upsell or rush us. A MUST SEE to know how real fine dining is!
- Pros: FOOD especially the Fagottini (sp?) and all of their pastas! They're homade!
- Cons: little pricey but how can you put a price on the best date ever?

MY WIFE AND I WENT TO DAVIDE'S ON A RECOMENDATION FROM A FRIEND AND WE WERE SO GLAD WE DID! IT'S HIDDEN AWAY IN A DOWNSTAIRS LOCATION BUT THE DINING ROOMS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND ELEGANT ESPECIALLY THE HIGH BACK BANQUET BOOTHS WHICH ARE PRIVATE AND EXTREMELY ROMANTIC.THE ONLY WAY TO DESCRIBE DAVIDE IS THAT IT'S THE CLOSEST THING TO BEING IN ITALY FROM THE CUSINE WHICH WAS EXTRAORDINARY TO THE WAITSTAFF WHICH WERE EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL AND SPOKE ITALIAN TO EACH OTHER WHICH MADE US FEEL LIKE WE WERE IN FLORENCE NOT BOSTON.(NICE TOUCH).WE INQUIRED ABOUT THE HISTORY BEHIND THE RESTAURANT AND OUR WAITER TOLD US IT WAS OWNED BY TWO BROTHERS AND WE HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING ANTHONY ONE OF THE BROTHERS WHO MADE US FEEL LIKE WE WERE A GUEST AT HIS HOME NOT AT JUST ANOTHER ITALIAN RESTAURANT.DAVIDE HAS IT ALL,ATMOSHERE,EXCEPTIONAL FOOD,AWARD WINNING WINE LIST,AND A PERSONAL TOUCH!!! DAVIDE IS A HIDDEN GEM THAT MY WIFE AND I ARE SO HAPPY TO HAVE DISCOVERED.WE'VE BEEN TO MANY NORTHEND RESTAURANTS AND THIS IS IN A CLASS BY ITSELF.I CAN GO ON AND ON ABOUT DAVIDE RESTAURANT BUT I'LL LEAVE WITH THIS.DAVIDE (A MUST TRY IF YOUR IN BOSTON)
- Pros: VALET PARKING, SERVICE, AUTHETIC ITALIAN CUSINE(UNREAL)
- Cons: NONE
