I thought the place was So So. Very small (bathroom is the size of a refrigerator), very dark, long wait to be seated and very crowded on a thursday night. Definitly NOT the place to go in party more then 4. Some what difficult to get a drink order when the bar area is jam packed with thirsty happy hour goers and people dining at the bar. The service was nothing to brag or write home about. I ordered the 1/2 chicken with fries and a salad. I am a huge chicken fan and felt that it was slightly over cooked. Waaay to much work for a meesly peice of chicken. The 2 best qualities are the speed in which they deliver there food and the slightly below average prices. Will I go again? Depends what friend will drag me there, but possibly for a beer!!!
Pros: Speed and Prices
Cons: Crowded, loud and not for a large party

being a new res to boston i wanted to try some local area places to eat. After doing a little research online I found this little gem. Its the perfect place for anyone esp. college goers. Good prices with great food. that can be a hard find in bean town. I had the tips, amazing mashed potatoes. ask for tips med rare, no more. the chilli was some of the best I've ever had. I loved the music too, i always wanted to try swing dancin. But this hip little area is def gonna be my new fav lil place.

I've been there three times for dinner and was always very satisfied with the food and service, not to mention unbeatable prices. The $10 steak tips comes with a generous salad, porkchops were heavenly, and the fish special I had the last time was very good. Steak tips tends to be on the dry side, though, maybe ask for 'rare' to compensate. Always had a professional waiter, never had or witnessed any attitude or drama. My only regret is that they don' t have dessert - not even ice cream. My hope is that one day they will, and the meal will be perfect. I am definitely looking forward to the next meal at Silvertone.
Pros: Food, drinks, decor, prices!!
Cons: Can be loud

I would have expected the elitist attitude of Silvertone's hostess "Mo" to come from an exclusive, upscale restaurant in New York City, NOT from a place like Silvertone's. She was on some sort of high and mighty kick. We were a party of three, with two more joining us for drinks later in the evening. I put in our name for a table of three and was told the wait was an hour. So at that point I told her, make it for five- by the time we sit the other two would join us. Well 45 minutes later she tells us our table is ready and is everyone in our party here. Well, we were still waiting on two. So she refused to seat us at a table for five and instead sat a couple at a large table. What I didn't enjoy was her snobby response to me: "You've been going back and forth with this 3-5-3-5 business, haven't you?" As if I was making it up to get a table sooner?!? Excuse me, who do you think you are, Mz. Hostess? Apparently "Mo" forgot her job was to be a HOSTESS, which, by definition, means she should be accommodating and welcoming. So we ended up eating at the bar, the bartenders were a hoot- very nice, and almost made up for the hostess' lack of, well, hostessing. The food was only ok. I was expecting more of a "wow" factor. My advice? Don't go when there is a crowd, and when Mo is hostessing, eat at the bar.
Pros: Nice bartenders, good drinks
Cons: Snotty hostess

Last year I went on a first date at Silvertone... and almost one year later we're still together. So perhaps I might be a little too biased to give a review but none the less here I am. Now living in Chicago, I miss the nights I'd get off work, dash quickly over to Sivertone, sit down with my co-workers and order a bottle of Vueve for a mere 50 dollars! Oh so quickly the stress of the night dwindled away! The night of the first date was some sort of breast cancer fundraiser/ anniversary party and a party it was! Since April is only a few months away we were hoping to have a wonderful anniversary, however we can't remember the actual date. So here I am writing a review hoping that someone who knows this info is randomly reading this review and will help a poor romatic out. And for everyone else- definately check this place out!!!

Silvertone is one of my favorites. The steak tips are the best I've had and very reasonable. The wine list has a great selection and a unique pricing policy, $10 over cost. For $30 you get a bottle that could be $55 in another place. Although best known for their Mac & Cheese and Meatloaf, I also suggest checking out other items on the menu as well. For a while I was in the habit of just trying something new, never had a bad meal. The bartenders are smooth and professional, no rookies here. It can be crowded, though they have some of the most generous booths in town. Great for lunch also.
Pros: Reasonable food and outstanding value on the wine list
Cons: When crowded, the wait can be long.

I have visited Silvertone several times with gay friends and they have never been mistreated so I can't speak to that however, as a large woman I have experienced mistreatment there. Until now I have not told anyone but my shrink this, but the last time I was in Silvertone I was tied up in the back room and force-fed mac n' cheese. It was a traumatic experience. Yet strangely delicious too. My point is that if you go there you should either (a) go with friends or (b)not be fat. I am working with my shrink to get past this experience. Omigod the raspberry martinis are so good, if you go get sugar on the glass. Mmmmm.
Pros: Mac and Cheese
Cons: Mac and Cheese being shoved down your throat.

Credibility lost. I see the story has changed to support your own brand of hate crimes. If I am to understand this correctly, now “hyiy” is present at the bar to hear the horrible tirade of the lecherous bigoted bartender. Why on earth would you allow that to go on? Now you’re slamming the Bible belt? Hmmm there seems to be a pattern here with this fraction of the group and their experiences at restaurants/bars… Hmmm. I’ll pray for ya. That’s it! No more. You have heard the last of me in this forum on this subject. To the public please read with an open mind. If you would like to continue this discourse you know how to find me.

...a nurse, two med students, an opera singer, a successful entrepreneur, a physician, and one unemployed guy go into a bar? Well if the bar happens to be Silvertone, then they DO get harassed by the bartender trying to pick up the one female in their predominantly-gay party. Unlike the last few reviewers to post on this matter, I actually WAS present when the bartender decided to ask my friend (the straight female who was in town with her boyfriend) what she was doing with that group of f-gs. Recent commentary on this matter--by conjecturing third parties--has decided to fixate on red herrings like the use of the word "idiotic" or personal testimonies of continued patronage in their defense of the restaurant. A great mac 'n cheese (which I didn't taste - I visually filled up on cottage cheese from the lady holding her shirt open and gyrating for the bartender's flashlight) doesn't negate that this establishment hires people who feel comfortable tossing out these sorts of offensive and incendiary comments. I thought I left hospitality like this back home in the Bible belt. >>> P.S. As for the 25% tip--I daresay it would not have been the same had he paid AFTER we learned what was said.>>>>>>>>STEER CLEAR, QUE*RS!
Pros: The service is great
Cons: if you're straight

This restaurant is truly one of the best places in Boston to eat, drink and be merry. I just read a few of the most recent reviews that referred to discriminating bartenders and bad service. I cannot speak to either of those allegations but I can just say that I have NEVER had a bad experience at Silvertone. I dine at Silvertone at least 4 times a month (lunch and dinner) and have hosted a party in their back room. Silvertone has one of the friendliest staff's around and not to mention great meatloaf and mac &cheese! They are definitely worth going back for! Bottom line, I would strongly recommend giving this place a second chance (or in many cases, 10th, 11th, 12th etc chance:)).
Pros: Food& Service
Cons: None
