irish pub with attitude (not in a good way)
by MJCalderon77
The location is great, the place is packed, but they act like they are a notch above the other 2 million irish pubs in boston, which they aren't. It's just more of a scene than it should be which is a plus for some people and a turn off for others. I think the place has potential but needs to be toned down a bit
Rude staff

A friend and I were visting my sister in Boston. After walking all day, and sight seing, we decided to stop into the Purple Shamrock. What a mistake. First the waitress was rude and argumentative, we should have left right then. But we decided to stay cuz the windows were open and we were people watching. Our waitress finally brought our drinks and made sound effects for everything she put on the table like "bam bam" when she placed the appetizer plates in front of us. So not only was she rude, she was wierd too. It took over 30 minutes to get our appetizers and there were only 4 other tables in the whole place. Will never waste my time or money there again!
- Pros: Open window seating
- Cons: Rude and slow
Will never go back

We were a table of 3 on a late Saturday afternoon. It was somewhat busy but not every table was occupied. The service was awful. The food was mediocre. We ordered our drinks and food and it took 20 mins to bring us our waters. 5 mins after that, my drink was delivered. 5 mins after that, my husband's drink was delivered. Ridiculous. After 35 to 40 mins later of waiting for our nachos (with chili), I was about ready to walk out. The nachos arrived, with no chili. Chips were cold and cheese was not melted, at all! We asked for the chili again. The chili was brought out by another server but it was a crock of chili (with melted cheese on top) with more chips! What? We said we didn't order this (b/c it was clearly not meant to be put on the nachos) and she said we did. Ugh, whatever. Our entrees came out soon after (no time to eat the tasteless nachos). We got burgers and they were good. But our waitress never came over to ask how we were doing. Getting another drink took forever! This place is so not worth it. Another person wrote a review and said he could only attribute the terrible service to race, but I highly doubt that as I was seeing it happening all over.
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Too many to list...but #1 con is service
The Purple Sham-rock

After walking the Freedom Trail my lady and I looked around for something to eat. We liked what they had on the menu so we decided to try it. It was about 8 or 9 pm and the place was not crowded. There may have been five 6 tables and 5 staff. There was no wait and we were immediately seated. It took a while for them to come and take our order but that was no biggie. Our server, whose name I forget now, took our order and...that's it. He disappeared. We did not see him again until the check. The manager took over while our server was "busy" with other tables. Tables he did not have when we first arrived. For some reason he just stopped serving us...and the manager filled in but it was too late by then. After being ignored for the whole night by a server i could see working the rest of the room got me very angry. The service was horrible, the food marginal, and i did not feel welcome.
Being that we were the only black couple in there I can only attribute this to race.
- Cons: Seems to be a color issue.
Superb atmosphere

We had a great time there, there's dancing, karaoke, great drinks! Go there for what it is and you'll have a great time...They close at 2am which is good...
- Pros: Location, fun!
- Cons: none
Great time at The Purple Shamrock
by JSizzles
I really enjoyed Saturday afternoon beers with my girlfriends at The Purple Shamrock. We decided to stay for a beer and then watch the Patriots game. We didn't end up leaving 'til closing time. The waitresses were friendly & were always there when we needed them. Walter, the manager, was the highlight of our trip; he was the true Bostonian we were hoping to meet (great stories!). After 10pm it definatley turned into a college-age club. Not exactly my scene, but we still enjoyed it.
Definately recommend out-of-towners to visit The Purple Shamrock.
- Pros: Good location and attentive staff
- Cons: The scene changes after 10pm-- club scene.
So much fun!

I love the purple shamrock! It's got a great atomoshpere and staff. Nick waited on our table and helped get our drinks out to us and he was so great! i know he is the manager but he really went above and beyond to help our table and his employee's. It's nice to see that, it isn't alway's the case! Thank you for great times! I will alway's bring my friends in!
- Pros: great staff and a team that seems to like each other! and great drinks
- Cons: unknown always a good time!
Absolutely horrible staff!

This place would not even let me in! I had a valid MA driver's license that they stated "was not me". I had just dyed my hair brunette (it's blonde in the photo) and the idiot bouncer said that it was not me and he refused to letme in, even after I asked him to please go scan my license to prove it was me! I offered 2 of my other cards as forms of ID, but he just got another bouncer who asked us to leave. Unbelievable! I will NEVER EVER waste my time here again & I tell everybody I know not to either. Besides you can see right inside, and this is not a place for good loking people! I had a friend from out of town who wanted to give it a try though, but we will never be back again!
- Pros: NOTHING
- Cons: EVERYTHING
This place is lame.

With so many good places in Boston, why would you spend (waste) your time & money on one like this. We've gone a few times, hoping it'd get better, and it never - EVER - does. The bartenders are horrible - they're slow, completely rude, will overcharge as the night progresses (watch out for that) - pretty much horrible all around. The bouncers are actually ok, which is surprising. The bar itself isn't even fun. It has an irish name but is FAR from being a decent irish pub. The people are on the unattractive side of unattractive and don't seem to have much fun. I won't be returning.
- Pros: bouncers, location
- Cons: everything else
One of the Quincy Market area's most popular bars features plenty of food and drink options, plus live entertainment.

In Short
When the weekend comes, the Purple Shamrock is inundated by college students and bold, young invaders from the suburbs. The bar features live rock and pop music on Friday and Saturday nights, and there's usually a small cover charge. DJs and karaoke (schedules vary) round out the Shamrock's entertainment offerings. The food menu caters to tourists (clam chowder, lobster) and includes the standard sandwiches and apps. Beer aficionados have a dozen-plus taps to choose from.
