I had heard rave reviews these past weeks on Alibi so I had to check it out for myself...The place was nice and I was enjoying myself up until I had to use the rest room. Upon leaving the bar we were handed these cards from the bouncer, supposedly securing our entrance back in, however that was not the case. To make a long story short the bouncer gave out 2 cards, each being a different color, which I guess we had the wrong color which made getting back into the club an issue. I was pretty much called a liar by management when explaining the situation to get back in. Both the Manager and General Manager were nothing but rude and helpless. Also to top everything off I was so rudely yelled at by the manager in the lobby upon leaving telling me that I need to have respect – talk about bad customer service – obviously they don’t care about their customers and need to take a management course themselves to learn how to properly respect/treat their paying customers…

Pros: Nice Atmosphere

Cons: Poor Bathroom System & Poor Management

I had eaten at Clink once before and enjoyed the experience, although I agree with other reviewers that the food was rather tasteless and uninspired. On that occasion I did have to wait a few minutes to get into Alibi afterwards, but that was understandable. Overall the experience was enjoyable enough that I thought I would take my brother here as he was in town last Friday night. What a mistake. The evening began well since we went early and got a small table in Alibi. However, the evening took a complete nose-dive when I needed to go to the bathroom...heaven forbid. Upon my return, I found that I was not allowed to rejoin my brother in the bar due to some story about a fire marshall and the need to do a headcount. It seemed ridiculous that I was not being allowed back in and that my brother was sitting in the bar waiting for me all by himself, but it seemed like it would only be for a few minutes, so I waited. And waited. And waited, until eventually one of the employees working the door area asked that we wait upstairs for a few minutes. So dutifully I went upstairs with another girl in line...needless to say neither of us had our bags so we could not even get ourselves a drink. When we returned downstairs we found that no one else had been herded upstairs (or else they were more agressive in their intention to stay put) and the same employee immediately asked us to go back upstairs. The situation took a turn towards the ludicrous. I also felt like I was being made a fool of. This was confirmed when we went back upstairs and looked down to the entrance of Alibi to find that 4 other people were being let in right in front of our faces. When we asked the employees working the door they gave some story about their boss telling them to let these people in. I felt like a complete idiot. After 45 minutes, my brother came out and we decided to call it a night. Cool looking place. Horrible treatment.

Pros: cool atmosphere

Cons: not being let back into the bar after going to the bathroom.

Totally buzz-worthy. The place is very different then the typical boston scene, has a nice hip vibe with a dash of obscurity minus the arrogance. Great fusion concoctions and nice crowd. Would def come again.

Pros: drinks

Cons: nothing around the area

It's so rare to find a place in Boston with a truly "New" concept. This place totally hits the nail on the head! Located in the Liberty Hotel (ironic since the hotel is a former prison) there was no line to get in, no cover (at least the night I went) the atmosphere was fun, and music quite dancible!! Posters of celeb mug-shots cover the exposed brick walls, which I thought was hilarious! Overall, very fun place. Trendy, yet not your usual night-club.

Pros: Ambiance, crowd, theme

Cons: none!

I had a great time at Alibi on a Friday night. Though there was a line at 9 PM, I didn't have to wait too long and the doorman was utterly fair - he let people in the order they were in line and didn't take payoffs. Once I got in, the place was not too crowded and the place never got more than pleasantly packed later on, i.e., I had room to walk comfortably around, but still felt like we were out. The staff were attentive and friendly - from the door staff to the waiters/waiteresses to the manager. For me, the attitude of the staff at these hip bars can really make or break the experience and the staff at Alibi passed with flying colors - not one ounce of attitude or pretension. The music was a good mix of different pop/rock/etc. and at a comfortable level. Though the place isn't meant to be a dance place, it might benefit from a DJ like 28 degrees in the South End to make it stand out more and find it's vibe or character. There are plenty of nice places in Boston, but it's the ones with character that get buzzed about and music can go a long way at making that happen. The decor was very inviting and we were able to get seating earlier in the evening and it didn't seem like people had to stand about too much, but could also move around to talk to other people. However, as a person in my 30's, I did find this place a little young for me. While there were still a few people in their 30's there, most people were in their early to mid-20's.

Pros: Staff, friendly crowd, yummy mixed drinks

Cons: a little bit of a line (but at least it's inside the hotel lobby and not outside)

A chic crowd, stylish waitstaff, and creative cocktails make for an arresting nightspot in Beacon Hill.  See the full editorial review.
