Best restaurant in Boston

by sc81 at Citysearch

I went here with my boyfriend for our anniversary. The atmosphere was really beautiful, our server was attentive, but not overbearing, and the food was amazing. I had the best meal of my life. For an appetizer we got the seafood platter for two which was delicious. The fresh baked bread was amazing. I ordered the filet mignon and my boyfriend ordered the beef wellington. Both were cooked just the way we asked, and we both agreed it was one of the better meals we've had. They served a butter flavored with thyme to compliment my steak, and it was perfect. The sides were amazing, particularly the mushroom risotto. I had a bluberry tart for dessert that rivaled a home-made pie.

The place was pricey so it's good for special occasions. If it was cheaper, I'd go every week.

  • Pros: Food, service, atmosphere
  • Cons: Pricey

The XV Beacon Hotel houses a feast for beef-lovers (and their seafood-loving friends).

In Short
There's no mistaking the menu here--from the name to the décor, Mooo is all about the cow. Though potentially cringe-inducing reminders of one's food origins abound, the atmosphere, service, and presentation are classy and tasteful. Steaks include prime, grass-fed, dry-aged, and the prized Kobe beef. Wellington and Chateaubriand are standouts, while scallops with corn-potato hash or lobster and macaroni are equally impressive. An extensive wine collection and delectable desserts round out the meal.

Expensive debacle

by HardestToPlease at Citysearch

My boyfriend and I went to Mooo last night after hearing mixed reviews. We enjoy trying new places however, this experience was one we would like to forget. We frequent steakhouses such as Grill 23, Abe and Louie's, Capital Grill, Ruth's Chris and Mortons so we figured it would be fun to try another steakhouse to potentially add to the list. For appetizers, we ordered the kobe beef dumplings and chilled alaskan crab and avocado which were both decent at best. I also ordered the clam chowder for myself which was tasteless. For meals, I ordered the chilled lobster tail which again was tasteless and which I sent back. My boyfriend ordered a steak (I don't remember exactly which one) but he said he enjoyed it. Overall, the best thing I had all night was my steamed asparagus side order. The manager then asked me if I would like something else and I said Caprese and almost 25 minutes later, my server comes over with a plate of plain pasta?!? To top the night off, the server also misplaced our credit card but found it about 5 minutes after he lost it.

  • Pros: Valet parking, Beacon Hill location

Not worth it at all

by J14G01 at Citysearch

The food is not worth the price. There are so many better steakhouse in Boston - Capital Grille, Grill 23, Abe and Louies, Ruth's Chirs. I honestly have had better sirloin at the Outback. I would not return to this establishment. Even the vegetables were over cooked. The drinks were fun and festive but for a restaurant whose main focus is the cow, they certainly don't know how to make a great steak.

Mothers day brunch

by Bostonroman at Citysearch

I took my wife for mother's day brunch. We were seated realtively promptly, the ambience was excellent. Our brunch was delicious and very well presented. However our server forgot our side dish, which I am glad he did because our portions were large. He also was a little slow on service and did a below average job at best.

Pros:

Food and ambience

Cons:

Pricey and sub-par service

  • Pros: Food, Ambience, location

Good but expensive

by jjrkane at Citysearch

Sometimes when you gotta have steak, you gotta have steak. It's not something I order too often (trying to keep off the red meat), so when I get it I don't mind paying up for it. That being said, I had a fantastic porterhouse here. I asked for medium rare and that's exactly what I got. The meat was incredibly flavorful. It set me back a bit in the wallet (ok, a lot), but well worth it!

nice atmosphere

Food was ok, but not good enough for the prices they are asking! Service was waaaaay too slow! Took almost 2 hours just for lunch and the servers were not that busy. Server never asked if we needed more drinks or how our food was during our whole meal.

WE HAVE BEEN HOODWINKED

by MOSTEXPERTS at Citysearch

i guess the thing do do these days if you are a chef is to open a steakhouse in boston, problem is most of the new places that pop up are nothing but a farce! sure they charge you like it is a prime steakhouse, but they dont give you prime beef, the public is getting taken!! getting choice and paying prime prices!, prime is twice as expensive to buy wholesale as choice, and dry aged beef is 30-40% more expensive than wet aged! this place is a perfect example of the fake high end steakhouse, along with the new place that opened right around the corner with prime in there name! (and thet also dont serve prime beef!)dont be fooled, the chefs think the public is dumb and wont know the difference(and in most cases they are correct) but if you are a true steak lover and know what is exceptional quality you will be offended by what they serve you here and will just get a chuckle out of the prices they charge for it! shame shame mooo, shame shame!

this is NOT a steakhouse!!!!!!

by jaylaurino at Citysearch

no porterhouse? no bone in ribeye? no prime beef!!! yes that is correct, the beef is not prime, it is choice and the prices are way WAY out of line for the quality of beef they serve, with all the high end steakhouses in boston there is no reason to ever step foot in this place, $39 for a 18oz boneless ribeye!! choice!! not even dry aged!! the waiter could not even tell me how long the beef is aged!!! $66 for a 14oz(21 day dry aged)strip steak ? they said is was from some special organic farm, problem was IT WAS NOT PRIME!! very little marbling no flavor at all (everybody who knows steak knows no fat equalls no flavor) and this was a tastless steak ,took one bite and stopped eating it, and it was not even prepaired correctly!! i asked for black and blue and told the waiter make sure the middle of the steak was cold!! of course it was hot ,it was cooked rare, but it did not matter , the steak was not for a real prime steak lover anyway. if you know nothing at all about high end steakhouses then they might just fool you , but if you go and eat REAL high quality dry aged PRIME beef , or a good wet aged prime(at least aged 4-6 weeks) then you will be very dissapointed in poor quality of the beef they serve here, all flash no substance!!

  • Pros: nice room,
  • Cons: quality off beef, prices are way out of line

Kobe Beef

by bosox04 at Citysearch

I went to Mooo the other night and it was the best steakhouse I have ever been to. I had the Kobe Beef dumplings and they were insane good. If you like steak you need to try this place. They also have one of the best wine selections in the city.
