Gem of Boston Bakeries

Ok so they are a little on the slow side, but thats only because they are so good everyone wants a piece! The sandwiches are always graeat, though they lack some variety compared to other sandwih shops, but this is a bakery! In Southie no less! I order a midnight madness cake once a month, and its always a good desicion. They are a little pricey, so this is not the place to take a party of 12 out for lunch. But as far as quality, A+ and the staff is always friendly, at least to me... maybe thats because I smile and THANK THEM for working in a bakery and making terrible money with coins for tips. here's a story, I got drunk one night and wrote "SEE ID" all over my debit card.. and alas forgot about it. The next day I stopped into Flour and to my suprise I was asked for ID. I was almost mad and angry because the staff hadn't done that to anyone

else around me or to me ever before, but I was silly to think they woulndn't pay attention to detail like that. LOVE this place till my funeral day********UPDATE about 1 week later*********

I went o this bakery almost immediately after writing this review and holy moley was I eating these words. The service was slow, and I was rudely treated. They gave me and charged me for 3 sandwiches that were all WRONG not even close and I was at home when I noticed all too late. I was carded again for my debit card and the girl didnt beleive it was me! I was even wearing a work badge with my name and face on it and she was so RUDE. I finally threatened to leave without paying simply and a manager helped me. Another girl dropped a basket off the glass case and I piked it up for her and she didnt even so much as look at me nevermind thank me!I brought a little cake home for my friend and it made her gag. Flour, I really thought it was love but I guess it was just a fling!

SLOWEST service in Boston

by watson81 at Citysearch

The sandwiches are really good, but it usually takes them about 20-25 minutes to actually make them once you've ordered them. It's impossible to go there for a quick lunch. I tried calling in my order, but they forgot to grill it, so then it took them another 20 minutes to grill it. The staff are incredibly rude. -- always acting annoyed when you order. These people outpace the airline industry with their delays and horrific customer service.

  • Pros: Good sandwiches
  • Cons: Overpriced, rude staff, very, very slow service

Yum!

Brioches and pastries are freshly made, with all the right types and amounts of flavors. Excellent sandwiches for lunch that are made fresh (half-sandwich orders are also possible, although it is not noted on the menu). Perfect coffee drinks for the picky drinker. I also enjoy their iced tea, which is good with a fresh lemon and a bit of sugar. I always order a chocolate cupcake for desert, they are very fresh and the frosting is perfectly made. This particular location has a nice layout, with modern furniture that is a little cold but fits with the location. There is also a good amount of window seating to look out onto the street.

  • Pros: Plenty of Restrooms

Sister location of acclaimed South End bakery and cafe, located in quiet Fort Point Channel.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
The first offshoot of Joanne Chang's award-winning bakery and cafe, the Fort Point Flour dwarfs the original in size. A stream of area workers stop by at all hours to appease their sweet cravings. With lots of room and plenty of natural light, this is a perfect spot to linger over a mug of coffee. Offerings include irresistible baked goods (sour-cream coffee cake, ginger molasses cookies and whimsical homemade pop tarts), hearty soups and savory sandwiches (fillings include apple-wood smoked bacon, tarragon chicken and oven-roasted vegetables).
