You'll never need another salon or stylist
by capeanngirl
My experience at Jerel at 119 is always wonderful. Comfortable waiting room, pleasant staff, great shampoo, and most importantly great cut and color. My stylist, Amanda, takes the time to ask questions and get a feel for what I want each visit and the results are always great! Right on with the color and a cut that doesn't need a 3 week maintenance cut. It takes me about 70 minutes door to door to get there but it's worth the trip every time. (I usually add shopping and dining in Boston to the trip.) Thanks Amanda for doing a great job!
- Pros: great cut and color
- Cons: (crickets)
The ONLY place to go!

How do you know when you have a good haircut? When someone pays you a compliment. Not because they saw the "before" and like the "after". Just because they look at your head and think "Wow, what a nice cut". Though it might sound strange - I've actually had this happen to me MANY times! Each time people say "You always have a nice haircut, I want to go where you go. Who cuts your hair??" For me - this is the ultimate compliment because I don't have naturally beautiful hair. My hair is naturally annoying. Which means these compliments don't go to me - they are all because of Jerel 119. I've been going to Sheilah and Amanda for the past 10 years. Obvious from the compliments - they both do an amazing job. I've even brought my out of town friends and family to see them. Everyone I bring or send loves this salon, the unpretentious feel, the relaxing atmosphere, and the impeccable service. I?ve never had a cut or color that I haven?t liked. Everyone in this salon (including the assistants and the receptionists) is friendly. Even Jerel himself is never too busy to be welcoming. (not like many salons where the owner has their own clients, and ignores the rest)
Sure there are many salons that are more conveniently located to my house or work, but would I change? Never. My hair/face is the first thing everyone sees ? which means my monthly visit to Jerel 119 is worth every minute! Thanks Amanda and Sheilah!!
- Pros: Fabulous cuts & color. Unintimidating atmosphere.
- Cons: I don't live next door??
Simply the Best

Boston salons in the Newbury Street area had always been my hair mecca, but I ditched the in town experience for suburban ease after I had children. It was impossible to fit appointments into my schedule with stylists whose wait times and availability were worse than most physicians!
After several years of disenchantment with the (many strange) directions my hair was going in, I began to look back toward the city. I had heard great things about Jerel, so booked an appointment with Carolyn, who has been my stylist ever since. As anyone who knows me can attest, my hair looks better than it ever has!
The entire experience is a pleasure. At the front desk, Zina is professional and friendly. Jerel, the owner, is engaging and always makes me smile. All of the assistants are wonderful; the shampoo and head massage will just about put you to sleep. The salon space is soothing and mellow.
Carolyn is a vibrant, interesting person who leaves you happy with more than your hair. She is prompt, pleasant, and amazingly adept at suiting cuts and colors to your face and lifestyle. I always look forward to my appointments and after seven years, I can't imagine going anywhere else!
For a great experience with a minimum of stress and a maximum of ease, visit Jerel at 119!
- Pros: Prompt, professional, fabulous cuts and colors, convenient to commuter rail and red line, shopping and restaurants nearby...
- Cons: <crickets>
Jerel @ 119 Rocks!

What can be better then being pampered in a friendly, professional environment & walking out of the salon looking & feeling like a Super Star? Everytime...and I repeat everytime...I strut out of Jerel @ 119 heads turn and I feel like a million bucks. I know that the cut is "in style", age appropriate and fits my personality perfectly. I trust my stylist (Carolyn) implicitly. Jerel takes care of their clients from beginning to end: the timely reminder phone calls about my appointment, hairstylist that fits you in when you "need" to get in, the relaxing hair washes and scalp massages, the qualified and VERY well educated stylists with THE latest cutting edge... I have never experienced such greatness in one salon. Get in there!!! Call today.
- Pros: location, educated stylists with cutting edge, promptness, accessability
- Cons: walk up
