Pirates Tavern reopened as a strip bar named Casa Diablo. It is owned by a guy named Johnny who inappropriately touches the dancers and tries to coerce them to sleep with him. My friend refused and was subsequently treated poorly and later fired. Johnny also told her that sleeping with him is required to get on the cover of the Casa Diablo "newsletter". The place is usually dead, but it is frequented by old hippies who don't tip the dancers. Definitely do not patronize this establishment.
Pros: Smoke free
Cons: Dead atmosphere, nasty owner

Yes, Pirates Tavern closed..... Sort of. It is still owend and operated by the same folks and still has vegan food. But now it's called Casa Diablo and is a smoke-free strip club. So, if you don't mind women disrobing while you eat, it's still the place to get some tofu based apetizers in the NW industrial district.

I have not had the chance to experience this establishment. However, I am writing this update to let others who may be looking for it know they closed for business in December of 07 for good. I wish I'd had the chance to check it out.

they just reopened after a week long remodel. The menu went from varied to plain...in fact its no better than any other "vegan friendly" restaruant. Maybe 6 items on the lunch menu. The staff isnt dressed up anymore and overall the way toned down the pirate theme. Dont know if this is good or bad. What is bad is that there is no longer anything special about the establishment. They said they couldnt provide speedy service with the old menu, but if they dont bring back some of those things then I see no reason to go....
Pros: can get 6 different vegan items
Cons: they are the same 6 items you can get in any restaruant

This restaurant has it all. Awesome food, great atmosphere, family friendly, and Beer. My son has several food allergies and it is nice to go to a restaurant where he can go and order anything on the menu. Plus it was pirate themed, what more can you ask for? Vegan and non-vegan people will love the food and the selection. It was fresh and delicious. The perogies and alfredo sauce was delicious. Their salads are great. Our family will definitely be eating there again and telling are friends about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I visited the Pirate's Tavern with my 2 children, husband and mother-in-law. Everyone enjoyed the tasty comfort food and the pirate theme. The beers were a little bit large, but I'm not complaining about that. We're looking forward to going back on one of the Pirate Nights and dressing up and listening to some good music. The owner told us that he's in the process of making the place dog-friendly and will soon have an outdoor eating area for people with pooches.
Pros: all-vegan menu, big beers, fun atmosphere
Cons: I wish it was walking distance from my house :(

A friend convinced me to try this place and I am so glad she did! I had the most delicious food, and I was so surpised that it was vegan. They have a great variety of things to choose from, the staff is friendly and funny and we felt very welcomed. The pea soup was really thick and delicious and the salisbury steak was so good, it has a rich smoky sort of flavor. They make their own "meat" right there. DEFINITELY try something with their Terra sauce on it, it was amazing. You'll really enjoy the place, and if you dress like a pirate, on certain nights of the week they'll give you a discount. Parking is great, service was fast and although it may seems like it's a bit off the beaten track, it took no time at all to get there. As they mature, I'm hoping they'll get even more interesting pirate souvenirs to decorate the place, but what they have is fun and very old and historic. They have live music on some nights of the week, but I was there on a Monday, so there wasn't any. Definitely try this place!!

Our group was excited to visit this new Pirate-themed place. Unfortunately, we were very disappointed. Although the staff were dressed in pirate garb, not much else seemed to be pirate-oriented. It felt more like a combination of a family-style restaurant and too-bright Irish/Scottish bar. We were very confused by this! The only rum drinks they offered were shots or your basic rum-and-Coke mixed drinks. They were expensive as well -$6- and I watched the bartender carefully measure an exact shot (no overspill) into the drinks. The menu listed a "rumpunch," but our waiter informed us they had not as yet 'mastered that.' What's to master, I wonder? The beers were expensive, too, although they were very large. They did not offer a smaller size for those of us who fill up on beer and might prefer a smaller size for a smaller price. The Vegan theme also seemed to be out of context with the attempted (but failed) pirate theme. As one member of our party put it, "I bet it's like a husband and wife team where one always wanted a pirate bar and the other always wanted to own a vegan restaurant." It didn't seem to add up. All of this, plus a remote location without any neighboring activity. We were hoping for so much more.
Pros: Hmm... Well-lit?
Cons: Expensive; unimaginative

Pirates Tavern appeals to two groups - pirate fans and vegetarians/vegans. The food is pretty good and there is always room. They are also open relatively late.
Pros: Vegetarian Food, Open Late, Service
Cons: A little pricey
