My date & I went to Z Squre about 2 weeks ago. It was a Friday night but early - about 6:30. We walked in & were told we could wait for 45 min. for a table in the dining room or sit in the bar area and eat - not a problem. There are two large tables in the bar area as well as plenty of counter seating at the bar as well as all around the room. We grabbed one of the tables since we wanted to have drinks, apps, & dinner. The apps were excellent (asian dumplings & scallops) and the drinks were good (martini list to choose from). We were having an great time until the bar area started to fill up. Really it was just one party of 6 people that then began to expand by twos every 10 minutes for about an hour. Despite there being counter seating all over the room they sat in the corner at the end of our table and then proceeded to take over half of the table!! Putting their dirty glasses on it, etc. while we were trying to eat our dinner. I could see if we were just sitting there having drinks but when you see two people having dinner at a table would you seriously throw your napkin with gum wadded in it on the table?! The bartender had to come over to repeatedly bring them drinks and never once said a word to them about encroaching on the diners at the table (at one point one of them was actually leaning on the back of my date's chair!) that were paying over $100 to have dinner there. Although, he did comp my drink when he forgot about it. The herd left before dessert but by then I was so irritated we went elsewhere to finish out the night. Which was sad because dinner was cooked to perfection (steak with onion strings) so I bet dessert would have been tasty.

Pros: Interesting menu, great food

Cons: Shouldn't suggest dinner in the bar area if they aren't going to ensure your enjoyment

Z-square contains everything I love in a restaurant. There are so many options to choose from on the menu, both for food and drinks. The atmosphere is great, we were seated in the downstairs section which was set in a very comfortable lighting. Our waitress was a sweetheart and treated us great. There is also a patio and upstairs cafe area, both looked light different restaurants, but its all the same. I don't know why I never knew this place existed! Highly recommended for anyone visiting Harvard Square for dinner and drinks.

Pros: right in harvard sq., comfortable

I liked most things about this place, friendly service, nice atmosphere, nice menu and wine list. However, I was disappointed to notice that service was slow and some of the food was not as good as I thought it would be.

Pros: very friendly, nice atmosphere

Cons: slow service

We happened upon this beautiful and comfortable restaurant in Harvard Square and can't say enough about what a lovely dining experience it was! It's always a nice thing when traveling to find a gem. Great service, great food and a beautiful ambiance. Highly recommend you stop in when in the area!

New-ish spot across from Harvard. They have a place in Greenbrae, California that I like so I wanted to check this out while I was visiting my sister in Boston. We met up with some friends, had a wonderful lunch and then hung out at the bar. I loved the squash/apple soup and curry chicken salad. I'd like to go again and check out the patio during the Summer... guess it's time to visit sis again.

Pros: choices! reasonable priced, good fresh healthy food

Cons: far from home

I've eaten at Z Square several times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The breakfast is very good, with really niced baked goods and good coffee. The dining room is very nice and provides a quiet, relaxing atmosphere for breakfast. Dinner is also very good, with solid food. The skirt steak was particularly good, but I also liked the other entrees I've had. There is a nice range of American dishes, and the restaurant also delivers good value. Service is good overall. The staff is very pleasant and attentive. It occasionally took a little while to get the check at the end of a meal, but the service during the meal was great. I also organized one large breakfast event at the restaurant. The management was very accomodating and put out a wonder spread for our meeting. I highly recommend Z Square for this type of thing. I have less experience with the cafe upstairs. The atmosphere there is much brighter. I had a simple breakfast there once, which was fine.

Pros: Atmosphere, food well executed, friendliness

Z Sqaure is a solid place to go for stylish decor and reliable food with pizzaz, all in a comfortable environment. The steak, panninis, sausage plate, breakfast scrambles, are all recommended. The cocktail list is creative, but not always well executed. All in all, Z Square is a much-needed hangout where you can go again and again alone, on a date, or with friends. The food is good, the service is friendly, and you don't have to feel like you're in a sports bar (like many other restaurants in the Boston-Cambridge area).

I've eaten at this place twice already. The first time I had the wings, they are insane good. I love buffalo wings so much that I actually put hot sauce in my coffee. The wings here are chipotle not buffalo and they are the best wings I have ever had. The second time I went I had the burger. It had some spices on it that just brought out the flavor of the organic beef. The perfect meal from this place would be wings and a burger, although it would be tough to finish. If you like burgers and wings you have got to try this place out.

Pros: Wings & Burger, service

Cons: parking, the beer list is limited
