give it a one star as no star is not an option

by amy198305

Don't go here. The food portion is very small and WAY over priced. The shabu shabu is not good at all, for 30 dollars, you get only 4 dollars worth of food. The service is slow. Also, \which the waitress failed to mention and the cost is not in the menu anywhere. On top of that, they automatically include a 15% tip for a party of six, so despite crappy service and food, you are forced to pay 15% for tips. By the way, I am forced to give it a one star as no star is not an option.

If I can, I would give 0 start

by AndyL730

The quality of foods is maybe a little better than the frozen slices from chinesemarket. However, the service is really bad. Some employees stand at the front desk, but they do not welcome customers. When my boyfriend and I got there, they let us stand and wait for a long while without saying a word to us. The second time I went there with my two brothers was really a terrible experience. The waitress ignored my request for some more soup base while she stood only a few foot steps away from me. Then I had to go downstairs, complaining about it with the manager. After that, she served us much better, and I thought maybe the manager had said something to her. When we were putting on our jackets before leaving, she brought paper towels and cleaning liquid to our table as if she wanted to cast ut out. That is my last visit to this restaurant. I will never recommend my relatives and friends to go there.

by lizalxlin

Best service, great food, great soup.... In this resturant, you will experince your own cooking and can enjoy with your family and friend with a huge space. My family love to go there all the time. Espcially the service is very good, the waitstaff are very friendly and they always offer to help if it is your frist time there. It is great if you never try before because they will assisst you and won't make you felt embarass. Highly recommande...

bad service; so-so food

by st188

service is poor: the waitress is totally oblivious to our table - she walked by multiple times without noticing that our soup is running out and that it is boiling like crazy. we had to almost yell at the top of our voice to get her attention.

food is OK and small portioned: the beef and lamb we so-so; maybe a little better than the frozen slices from super 88. we tried the ostrich which is tough and chewy; i wouldn't recommned it. the fish paste and fish / meatballs were decent though. the soup is fine, but we've had better at little lamb etc.

overall: i'm definitely not going back again.

  • Pros: fish paste, meatballs are better than expected
  • Cons: poor service

better at home

by freewilly7

my parents went once and came back w/complaints. something about their service, small portion at cheating price, or not fresh food. (sorry can't remember now it's been too long).

i always like doing shabu-shabu at home, that way i get everything i want, plus i can get double the food at half the price anyways.

Kaze vs. Shabuzen

by lilyface

I completely disagree with the other reviewer saying that this is a better find than Shabuzen. I've talked with family members, friends, roommates and everyone agrees that Shabuzen is the better choice for hotpot in Boston's Chinatown. The only upper hand that Kaze has is the bar. Otherwise, the soy sauce is too sour, the broth isn't as flavorful and the staff isn't as friendly. Additionally, their shakes aren't as good. I wasn't about to write a review for Kaze, I was really looking for Shabuzen so that I can give them a good review as I'm a frequent customer there. Kaze and Shabuzen's prices are comparable, so I usually go to Shabuzen for a better meal and bigger selection.

  • Pros: Bar
  • Cons: Not comparable with the other shabu location nearby

Nice place for shabu shabu

by mn48225

I took my boss and coworkers here for lunch once and they loved it. It was also awesome that they had lunch specials (which were significantly cheaper than their dinner prices) and we were promptly seated. The food was fresh and there was plenty of options. The tables and the place is completely new so it's a nice place for a date, too.

  • Pros: very clean and bright for a restaurant in Chinatown
  • Cons: the service wasn't as polished as I would've liked

Casual Chinatown eatery provides upbeat groups and homesick expats with a straightforward Shabu Shabu experience.

by Contributor

In Short
With its fresh ingredients, affordable prices and helpful waitstaff, Kaze is an ideal spot for the Shabu Shabu novice. Diners use a pot of boiling water to cook thin slices of meats like chicken, lamb and even ostrich. (A plethora of seafood and veggies are also available.) Starters include stir-fried veal tongue, steamed dumplings and seaweed salad, while cooling ice creams are available for dessert.
