A $300 contract misunderstanding
by HZR at Citysearch
Maybe if you are moving just inside of the Boston area these guys are ok, which it seems from reading the other reviewed.
However, I have a longer move from Mass to VA, and the movers were both late and ripping me off at every possible opportunity.
- While the movers were not legally late in bringing my stuff to VA(they make you sign a contract saying that they can arrive with 20 days of the date specified) They didn't actually get my stuff to my new place until over a week after they had said. Even though I had made very it very clear when I needed them to arrive over a month in advance. When I called them on the day they were scheduled to be here(but not contractually obligated to be as Michael's kept pointing out)...they told me they were going to begin packing up my stuff some time in the next three days! Long story short- I had to sleep on the floor with no furniture for my first week of work. ...
- Maybe Im old fashioned, but when you make very clear to someone when your furniture should arrive.... give them a month of advance warning... and they are still over a week late, I --flat out-- could care less what the contract says, Michael's is irresponsible.
Oh.... and they ripped me off at every turn, plan on paying $200-300 more than you originally sign on for... no matter how closely you read the contract.... these guys are experts...
- Pros: Nice people
- Cons: nice because they knew they were ripping you off!
100% THE BEST!
by ARB at Citysearch
I would just like to start off by saying that this is a great company to work with! I have used this company twice already over the years (once to move from Maine to a ridiculously hard place to maneuver in Boston, then again from Boston to Brighton) , and I have recommended them to family and friends numerous times. All of us have had great outcomes. I felt compelled to write a positive review after reading some of the negative feedback I came across because I feel as though there was some misconstrued information. First of all, when I called a sales rep, he discussed a lot of what I have seen on here as complaints...packing supplies are EXTRA and this was explained! I spoke with a very polite gentleman named Bryan, and he explicitly told me this at least 3 times. He even instructed me to have my things at least put in boxes because it would save ME money (nearly all companies charge for this, Mike's was the only company that was up front about it!). He also explained about deposits and refunds of money if canceled etc, as well as how they give you an ESTIMATE (as best they can, seeing how traffic does exist) of travel times/man power etc. I was also able to view all of this in an email confirmation that was sent to me right after I spoke with Bryan on the phone so that there would be NO surprises. What really made me trust this company was during my first move a piece of expensive furniture was found to be broken, and the movers were quick to point it out and assume responsibility and start the process of getting it repaired or paid for...fact of the matter, they had NOT even broken it - I had when I had previously tried to move the piece myself! They were quick, efficient, and they got the job done. All and all I would definitely recommended this company to everyone and anyone. Although they may not be the 100% cheapest, they are still INCREDIBLY reasonable, and I found that the cheaper companies were just low-balling to get my business and then would do a terrible job. In most cases I would say that you get what you pay for, but I definitely got better service than what I paid for with this company
- Pros: Everything they promised
- Cons: Other moving companies try to make them look bad!
I've felt being cheated
by BRK at Citysearch
The movers came 5 minutes late. I didn't care until I got my bill. We packed up everything in boxes before they came. They were very slow wrapping/unwrapping our furniture. 6 pieces of furniture (2 simple dining tables, 1 futon, 1 bed, 1 sofa and 1 small desk) took 4 movers 2.5 hours to pack and unpack!!
Before we drove to our new apartment, they told me that they wanted to stop by a store to get some soft drink. So we took a detour. They took their sweet time to find what they wanted. Since Michael's moving had a policy for charing by half an hour increment, guess what, when they were done moving, it took them almost 10 minutes to prepare the bill. Sure it went into another half an hour increment, and I was charged for that.
I called the manager afterward to dispute this charge. He was horrible. Another thing that I thought was quite unprofessional was that one of the movers was standing around a lot.
I really felt being cheated. I regretted going with them because they had lower hourly rates than other companies.

MY BEST MOVE EVER!!
by MJlove at Citysearch
I have moved many times in my life. This past weekend I had Michael's movers come by pack me up and move me to Brookline. I had over 5 bedrooms and was completely unorganized. Bryan came by to see what I had and he spent nearly 2 hours with me. He gave me a quote, which was not the cheapest (and oh were they cheap) they were in the middle. After 3 long days I can amazingly say there was no damage to any of my furniture, I give them high praise for a job well done.
- Pros: Staff, Office
- Cons: None to mention.
Awesome movers!!!!!
by jumpman116 at Citysearch
I am very happy that i chose Michael's movers. You hear a lot of horror stories out there so i made sure to do my homework. Michael came to my house and gave me a proposal which included everything i needed. He was very good and patient with all of us. Then on moving day my team had arrived, and boy were they great!!!
Thank you for everything!!!
- Pros: On time, No damage!
- Cons: None what so ever!
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!

I have moved several times, and never have I had a more miserable experience. This company is terrible and will take advantage of you every step of the way.
We were moving from Boston to LA and the most important factor for us was our 6'6" grand piano. As I am a pianist, it was crucial that my piano not only get there safely, but also quickly as I needed to practice as much as possible. We were assured that it would take no more than 15 days and that they had moved pianos dozens of times.
Both statements were lies.
The movers did not arrive until a month had passed. Each time we called they made up some new excuse. When the movers finally did arrive, they had absolutely no idea how to move a piano. If I had not been there, the piano would have broken, as they tried to put on all three legs at the same time, and then pivot the piano on the front left leg. This would have snapped the leg off into several splinters since it was not designed to support such weight. After it was finally put together, they complained about moving it into the proper place in the room. They "assembled" our bed, but minutes after they had left, the bed frame snapped apart: they only put in two of the 12 screws required for assembly.
Furthermore, as they require cash upon delivery, they were to call us 24 hours in advance of their arrival. They instead called us 45 minutes before they arrived, and we didn't have the necessary cash on hand. But as it was a Saturday, all the banks in town were closed. It took us several hours of running around LA before we could find somewhere to cash a check.
I have since tried on several occasions to address these issues with the company, but they have yet to return my call (a month has now passed).
Regardless of your situation, this company is not worth the risk. I only hope they don't stay in business much longer.
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: Everything
Amazing movers!!!

We searched for a long time for a reputable mover. We did this internet thing and got inundated with phone calls and non stop e-mails. Then our friend had just moved with Michael's and told us we had to use them! Fortunately we did and were very impressed with the crew> They packed us a day earlier and movedd us the next, we could not have been happier!!Thank you again everyone at Michael's moving and storage.
- Pros: Fast, proffesional staff.
- Cons: none to mention
Great Movers-Best Price-Fantastic Service
by Julia612 at Citysearch
I had a difficult situation of moving and storage at different locations so I used them twice within a few months. First Michael?s gave me an estimate which was significantly lower than any of the competitors I contacted. I dealt with customer rep named Tristan who was exceptionally courteous, attentive, and understanding of my situation. He responded immediately to any questions or concerns that I had. It wass a pleasure working with him since i had a lot of anxiety. Each time I moved, the crew was polite, efficient and worked very quickly so my actual cost was lower than the quote.
I would recommend Michaels to everyone who is moving.
- Pros: Service and Price
- Cons: None
Misleading Estimates and Given Run Around for Complaints
by JPresident at Citysearch
Michael's Moving and Storage(Michaels Movers) is a giant rip off....They gave me an estimate for 700 and a bill for 1900....Movers worked extremely slowly, charged for blankets/pads...disassembled and reassembled small pieces of furniture to delay move as long as possible
When I complained, they gave me the run around including wrong phone numbers and names of people to speak to...I am taking them to court, but you should avoid them entirely
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: extremely inaccurate quote, complete run around for handling claim
