Getting Even Better with Time

by lashy at Citysearch

I have dined at Domani a few times, first when they opened and a few times more recently. I have to say that I am happy to see the continued level of quality and consistency (the pizza is still as delicious as I remembered it to be!). The bar had a great buzz, but it certainly did not take away from the experience at the tables. I have to admit that even though the dinner conversation was entertaining, I couldn't help people watching through the floor to ceiling windows. Beautiful touch! Service was attentive and knowledgeable. Not knowing much about Italian wines, we were at the mercy of the server who helped us choose a great bottle at a reasonable price. Recommended items- the pizzas, the Caesar salad, the pork Milanese and the Tarragon Gimlet.

Avoid this Italian "bistro"

by lindabarnard at Citysearch

We were very disappointed with our experience at Domani. The service was slow...it took about 20 minutes to get a drink when the place was empty, and our waitress was not friendly. The atmosphere was not inviting and certainly not reminiscent of an Italian bistro...it's not the chic place as advertised and the chairs were similar to those found in a cafeteria. Considering the reputation of the chef, we had high expectations for the food. However, the pasta dishes were overcooked, bland and served luke warm, and the desserts appeared to have been previously frozen. I would avoid this restaurant, as there are too many good Italian restaurants in Boston!

  • Pros: nice central location
  • Cons: poor food quality, lacked ambience

Chic Back Bay trattoria sets up shop above the equally trendy Saint nightclub.

by Contributor at Citysearch

In Short
With modern lighting and a palette of warm earth tones, Domani provides area couples with a romantic date spot. When the weather agrees, the floor-to-ceiling windows open up to provide cooling breezes (there's some patio seating as well). The contemporary Italian menu provides diners with creative items like homemade garganelli with crab meatballs and fennel cream.

Great Place

by bosox04 at Citysearch

This place is a great alternative to anything else in the back bay. I went there for dinner and drinks with some friends and family the other day. Everyone loved it. My mother yelled at me for not bringing here there sooner, she only visits once in a while. Now this is the only place she wants to go when she returns. The service was spectacular, we didnt have to wait long for our drinks at all, and my father can only wait just so long for his beer. My father tries to find something wrong with everything, but not this place. He had nothing but good things to say, of course he did compare his cooking to theirs, no comparison. Check this place out for a good meal if you havent already.

  • Pros: Great food and service.

Such slooooooow service...

by grpkole at Citysearch

A large group of us ate here for lunch and waited over an hour for food. This is a terrible place for groups! They do not serve bread at the tables before 5:00, so we sat and stared at our plates for an hour, wondering what they were for. Someone eventually ordered some appetizers for the table because we were waiting so long with no end in sight, and they were so-so. I saw a rice ball arrive and was looking forward to it, but the flavor was very bland. The salads were fair. I ordered the fava bean ravioli, which was decent, but not spectacular. Two orders were forgotten (and one of them was just a salad). Certainly not worth the long wait.

  • Pros: Location
  • Cons: Very slow service, smallish menu, mediocre food.

Best Brunch

by lesa613 at Citysearch

I found this restaurant to be delightful. The atomosphere is a bit cold, but the brunch is fantastic. I wish the chef would find a better spot for his talents. He is one of the great boston chefs and I hope that he stick around.l highly recommend this restaurant

Lacking that certain something...

by kuma00 at Citysearch

Only one of the four dishes ordered was pleasing. Two of the meals were almost not edible - the Risotto was soaked in red wine and the wegetables accompanying the bland pork chop tasted unwashed and undercooked. Pumpkin Raviolis were tasty, as was the crispy duck. Mediocre food, decor and a limited menu try to be trendy chic and simply come across as forced. Bottom Line: the food simply does not taste good; save your money and eat anywhere else. There is just othing to distinguish this trattoria from all the other "wannabe" hot spots in the city. And like those places, Domani focuses on trying to keep up an image rather than serving food that tastes anywhere near decent.

  • Pros: Strong Cocktails, Quiet, Convenient Locale
  • Cons: Poor Food Taste, Overpriced forquality, limited menu

Absolutely No Good

by suburbanlegend18 at Citysearch

Unspectacular. The ambience lacks... something. The decor was trying, and failing, to be chic. Service was adequate. Drinks (thank God, we needed them) were strong.

The food?? No good... this place is trying to get by on "reputation," and hopes that people will be too self-conscious to admit that it's not very good at all. My Saffron Risotto negated the need for a drink - it's as if they'd just learned how to cook with wine. Could barely eat it, and left hungry. Pumpkin ravioli was quite good. Another companion had the unimpressive pork, which was accompanied by vegetables that seemed barely washed and barely cooked. A fourth diner had rigatoni. Not bad, but in no way deserves upscale pricing.

In short, big disappointment. Prices are high to keep up appearances. In a blind taste test, no one would ever consider this fine dining. And most would turn it away.

  • Pros: Strong drinks, location
  • Cons: Overpriced, bad food, bland ambience
