Fun and great food!

by lclygrn

Great variety of food. Their brunch is really good too from 11am to 4pm on the weekends so that's definitely something i love. I really like their wraps and this is always a great place to stop by after for a drink and some food with co-workers. I also know that they recycle their used cooking oil, so i'm definitely interested in frequenting this pub more often!

Juicy, Tasty Burgers and Much More

by KelseysLackey

Tommy Doyle's is a great small, neighborhood pub with excellent food and good beer on tap. Their burgers are some of the best in the Boston area - thick, juicy and tasty. But they offer a lot more as well, with a menu that is as eclectic as the photos and chotskys that fill the place. And as of this review, they feature live blues music on Sunday evenings. Definitely worth checking out!

Newton residents in search of a casual, welcoming drinking and dining spot head to Watertown St.

In Short
Located close to the Newton-Watertown border, this Tommy Doyle's is smaller than its sister Kendall Square location but delivers the same comfy atmosphere and far-reaching pub grub menu. Numerous strategically-placed TVs ensure that all patrons have a good view of the game, and the bar offers a solid beer selection. Popular menu items include "ploughman's" potato skins (melted cheddar, smoked bacon and sharp green onions), juicy beef burgers and sizzling fajita platters.

A great little Irish pub in an old Boston neighborhood

by d_thomas

Considering a prior reviewer's trashing of this place (hopefully removed), one would have expected a miserable experience. But, as usual, when someone totally flames a place, you ignore it and assume they never actually visited the place. I suppose some people with nothing better to do just look for opportunities to post verbal graffitti on the internet. Now for an honest review.

Tommy Doyle's in Newton is a fine neighborhood pub! The place is small, some might say intimate, in what appears to be an Italian neighborhood. They have a friendly bartender with I believe an Irish accent. The pub has an eclectic mix of photographs, humorous signs and Irish related objects covering most of the wall space. The actual wooden bar is almost as long as the establishment. They serve a wide variety of beverages: the usual boring macro brews, properly temperatured Irish ales, Guinness (of course), wines and a variety of hard liquor. I also noted what appears to be a wide selection of different blended scotches and even single malt options.

For a small place, it has quite a variety of TVs, from little ones inserted into the back bar to larger ones throughout the place. I suspect it was packed for the World Cup and it would be a great place to watch a Red Sox game. Adjacent TVs are tuned to different channels for those keeping track of multiple sporting events.

And now on to the food... There are soups, salads and burgers on the menu plus some traditional Irish selections. I have only been there once (so far), thus I can only relate that the Bangers & Mash was great "pub fare". I'm not going to claim this is fine dining, just what appears to be very delicious pub offerings. My co-worker declared the Shepherds Pie to be excellent.

There is outdoor sidewalk seating, but it was raining the night I visited, so it was not in use. There wasn't a huge crowd on a weeknight, but I certainly plan to return and investigate Tommy Doyle's further.
