Delicious Food - New Favorite Restaurant

by no1foodlover

I have been looking for a really nice restaurant outside boston and I've tried a few with not a lot of success. THen a friend of mine suggested The Met Club in Chestnut Hill. So, last Saturday night my girlfriend and I decided to go. We had one of the best dinners that we could remember in a long time and I thought it was worthy of a review. We started at the bar for some cocktails, the bartender was really friendly and made us feel really comfortable, my girlfriend ordered one of their specialty cocktails, they have a nice selection with some interesting ingredients - it was hard for her to decide but the bartender was knowledgable and recommended one. I ordered my normal before dinner scotch, they have a large selection and carry my favorite scotch. We then went to the dining room for dinner, we ordered oysters and the tuna and salmon tartare. We chose from a selection of oysters and they were so fresh and tasty we order more and the tartare was served with these crispy chips - really fresh. I ordered some wine and the server helped and knew a lot about wines. Our dinner arrived and my girlfriend and I were completely blown away as to the deliciousness of our dinner. I ordered a steak off of their special steak menu. It melted in my mouth and was full of flavor. My girlfriend likes to try different things and she went for the salmon wellington. She said she wanted to come back next week to have it again - it was so good. Next came the dessert, we were informed they have a pastry chef and bake everything in the restaurant so even though we were full we decided to split something. Out of the kitchen came this giant piece of cheesecake with caramel and chocolate and pecans and whipped cream. Everything was perfect, the food was great, the people were really friendly and the valet parking was free. We will be back and we recommend this to anyone who wants to have a great night out.

  • Pros: Great Food, Friendly and knowledgable staff
  • Cons: Hard to get a reservation at 7pm on Saturday night

Best over 30's Bar Scene

by fenwaycutie

Wonderful low lighting, quick service and fabulous food! Great for meeting a friend after work for a cocktail or a first date. It's a very intimate, yet rich enviornment. I highly recommend the lounge!

Nice variation on the usual steak houses

by tpinckney

I've been to pretty much all the steak houses in Boston and this was one of the most interesting. It's a little more varied that the typical places, good service, good food, expensive tab.

  • Pros: slightly more modern take on the usual steak house menu
  • Cons: Not the hip downtown kind of scene

Terrible all the way around

by lisakp

My husband and I had dinner here a few nights ago. The food was terrible. From the appetizers, to the entree's, to the desert. The only tasty thing we had was the wine. We were in a large group and started out with an assortment of appetizers...each one a disappointment. The calamari was dripping in grease, the duck confit spring rolls had little flavor, the tartare(salmon & tuna) had too much mayo and the Crispy Steak Bomb Snacks steak rolls with wasabi mayo was bland. Each of us ordered some type of steak, I had the Prime Skirt Steak with pepper jam which again tasted like it was fried and dripping in oil and my husband the Bone-In New York Sirloin 18 ounce which he said was mediocre. The sides we ordered were horrible. The broccoli looked like it has been placed in the microwave with a slice of craft cheddar cheese.

Desert was just as disappointing. Did I mention the waitress came to take our desert order about 10 minutes after we got our entrees? How rude and unprofessional is that? I understand it may take 15 minutes to prepare a certain desert but I don't need to think about desert until after the main course.

The bar was nice and the decor trendy but we will never go there again.

  • Pros: Free valet parking
  • Cons: The food

Excellent New Years Eve evening

by luvfood9

We had an incredible night with a party of 6 celebrating New years eve at the MET.

The lychee champagne cocktails were sooooo good.

A few of us ordered the special Chinese menu which was superb.

The duck was one of the best duck dishes ever.

The atmosphere, the staff, the drinks, the food.

Simply perfect.

bad food

by samuel001

We dined at the met club New Year?s Eve and I have to say the food was just horrendous

I had the brisket which was bone dry but I also sampled my wife?s Filet which was average at best. I also tried the Rib Eye for two which I found to be flavorful but way to chewy..

Good atmoshpehere and good drinks..my suggestion get drinks at the bar and skip the food

Chestnut Hill steakhouse defies labels by providing stylish suburbanites with appetizing modern American fare and a happening bar scene.

by Eric Grossman

The Scene
Located in the former home of Figs restaurant, the Metropolitan Club offers moneyed Newtonites a stylish culinary playground. With food and liquor pairings, designer cocktails and stylish lighting and furniture, the bar area is as modern as any in the city. Serious diners decamp to the dimly lit dining room awash in warm browns and golds. Efficient servers and bartenders are familiar with the menu's many intricacies.

The Food
The Met's menu meshes standard steakhouse items with high-concept touches. This approach yields dry-aged cuts of sirloin, plated with colorful spears of carrots or turnips and squiggles of beet alioli. Unique starters include Caprese salad with fried green tomatoes, and pan-seared watermelon "steak" with fresh feta. Savory monkfish osso buco and homemade penne carbonara with pancetta and peas are examples of non-bovine entrees available. Popular made-to-order desserts include warm pineapple upside-down cake and molten caramel-filled chocolate cake.
