This is my kind of sushi! Every tray and dish brought to you is carefully made and the designs and color of each piece is extravagant. The skill and art of their specials is unlike any other sushi I've seen. I'm a huge fan of sushi and believe me I've been to many other places but Umi has me coming back for more!

I'm a bit shocked at the low ratings, however I go to Umi at least twice a week, and while their service is not fast, it isn't slow at all. If you've never been, or are deciding, I'd say, side with going, it is a must try! I got addicted to this little sushi place the first time around. You don't have to worry about being rushed, it is a cozy and comfortable place to eat, where you can take your time. Great fresh sushi!

Being a regular customer of Umi, I go there every Saturday, I always find their peaceful atmosphere inviting and the service is especially friendly. I must insist that if you're looking for reasonably priced, high quality sushi, Umi is the place to go! I love the miso soup there, delivered fast and hot and fresh. Delicious. Also, try having a Butterfly maki, beautifully decorated and tastes just as good. Umi is a little restaurant where you can eat in or out. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.

We just ordered take-out for a lot of money. When we got home and looked at our food - they had given us fewer rolls than typical. They had also used fillers in one of the rolls (a lot of lettuce (ugh!) and cucumber instead of fish) and then substituted the yellow tail in one role with a disgusting cooked fish.

I know everyone is cutting costs these days, but pissing off your customers with cheap filler items is not smart business.

If you want just quick sushi and not the best tasting, this place is for you. I wasn't impressed with the overall quality of the sushi, but then again the prices weren't outrageous.

It is close to BU so it attracts some of the student crowd, and I think that they cater to that fact.

In a city with a lot of pricey subpar sushi, Umi is a really good value for your buck. Been there about a dozen or so times, and so far the sushi has been consistently very good. The fish is always good quality, and they have a lot of speciality rolls that are not too pricey-they certainly can rival speciality rolls found at the more popular restaurants. Downsides-they dont know the meaning of appetizer...they usually dont bring your items out in any particular order, which can be annoying. Service is not spectacular-can be slow, space is small, and they do get swamped with takeout requests, but if you're mostly interested in eating great quality sushi at an affordable price this is the place.

Faced a 1hr+ wait time for the food after ordering. The menu is pretty deep, with some interesting rolls, but they seem much more concerned about their takeout & delivery than their sit-down customers. After 35 minutes waiting for our food, the waitress came around and claimed the kitchen was short-staffed-on a Friday night-and that they have been swamped with takeout orders. Half an hour later our food finally arrived. While tasty, I would have rather spent the wait in my apartment. If you want to try them out (and they're worth it if you want reliable sushi at a great price), pick up your phone.

  • Pros: Pros: Good sushi & a good value, outdoor seating
  • Cons: Cons: WAIT TIME for sit-down, outdoor seating (smoking from El Pelon et al)

I went in on a Sunday afternoon and we had great service, but it was not crowded so I cannot speak for busy times. My friend and I ordered three types of sushi and said we would share. Only about 15 minutes later one plate arrived with all of our sushi beautifully arranged complete with an orchid in the middle. It was thoughtful that they went through the effort to appeal to the aesthetics of the food. The waitress was attentive and very nice but not overbearing. It was less than $20 for 3 different rolls. We had the regular tuna, the yellowfin, and the shrimp tempura which was amazing. It is definitely a family-owned place and has beautiful decor. Since I live in the area I will begin ordering take-out from here... probably tomorrow.

  • Pros: service, sushi, extras, ambience, price
  • Cons: small place (might get crowded)

I really like the sushi here; I always get it delivered and it comes quickly and is always fresh. You cannot beat their miso soup either: salty with just enough goodies in it to make you keep coming back for more!

  • Pros: Great sushi and miso soup
