Rude Reception
by Foodie7376 at Citysearch
My wife and I decided today (01/18/2009) to eat Thai food and unfortunately picked this place based on the reviews on this website. The young woman at the reception neither made eye contact nor welcomed us. She picked up a pair of menus and randomly picked a table for us (without even asking for our preference in a restaurant that was half empty). Much to my surprise she then literally threw the menus on the table and without saying a word walked away. We have eaten at multiple restaurants in Cambridge and have never been treated so badly. I have no explanation for this young woman's rudeness. But suffice it to say we opted not to eat there and walked out of the restaurant immediately. Others beware........ prepare to be insulted if you want to eat here !!
Worst Meal I've EVER Had from Sugar and Spice
by orlnjim63 at Citysearch
Let me be completely honest; I usually love Sugar and Spice, but today's experience was so bad I just have to write about it to get it out of my system. Vegetarian Pad Thai...sounds simple, huh? Well, what a plateful of tasteless greasy glop! I couldn not eat it and am now at home making lunch. I'm not going to go on and on about it, just let me make one thing clear; if this is the level to which Sugar and Spice has sunk during my time away, it will be coming off of my list of favorite/regularly frequented restaurants. MAJOR disappointment today!
- Pros: Usually excellent food
- Cons: Today absoultely inedible
Average at best

Same owner as the recently renovated Spice & Rice (formerly Sweet Chili) in Inman Square (Cambridge), but I would say the food at this Porter Sq location is inferior and staff a bit amateur (although friendly). The sticky rice was unacceptable - dry and fell apart when picked up, but the bbq beef was acceptable. What was actually very good was the dessert - fried ice cream (green tea flavor). This is a staple dessert with Japanese restaurants (and increasingly, Thai, it seems), so it's good to ask if it's homemade. An ok place if you're not too critical (or don't know Thai food too well). Casual atmosphere, seemed family friendly.
- Pros: Casual, fairly priced
- Cons: Food
Fantastic Thai!

I had never visited Sugar and Spice until about a month ago. Since discovering it, I have been back at least five times! Each time I go, I am conflicted. Do I try something new, or do I feed my mango curry addiction? No matter what I choose, I am never dissapointed. The mango and avocado curries are life-affirming and every bite of the crispy basil chicken is an explosion of flavor in my mouth. Everything I've tried has been amazing and the atmosphere is absolutely adorable.
- Pros: food, flavors, service, lunch prices
- Cons: apparently delivery, but why eat at home when the restaurant itself is so cute?
Good Thai--don't know if I'd wait for it.

If we go out for Thai we like to eat at Sugar and Spice. We usually get in before the rush, and the service is prompt, efficient and overall pretty excellent. I don't know if I would wait in the line that forms or try to get takeout. I'm scared to try to get delivery or take out from them after reading the reviews on here, and there are some really good delivery places in the same neighborhood. It has that temporary feel with orange walls and modern light fixtures--the way most new Thai restaurants look.
- Pros: Close to Porter T, good food, good service
- Cons: Can be a long wait, not many tables
TERRIBLE DELIVERY SERVICE
by oxcarn at Citysearch
I wish I had read Skipper28's review. No quality of food can make up for our nearing 2 hour delivery wait (and still no food yet). When it finally arrives, it will be at least 1 1/2 hours old and probably cold -- that would not be acceptable in any restaurant. I strongly urge you not to order from them unless they can guarantee delivery in a reasonable amount of time. -ANGRY AND VERY HUNGRY IN CAMBRIDGE
Waited too long, paid too much

I was disappointed when I ordered food for delivery online and then called 15 minutes later to request extra peanut sauce and they hadn't even noticed my order yet. Apparently it was overlooked by the system and if I hadn't called they wouldn't have seen it. Despite this, no one apologized for the mistake, and they still charged me the $2 delivery fee, $1.25 extra for rice (since when does white rice not come with Chicken in Garden?) and $1 extra for the peanut sauce. On top of this I waited over an hour for my food. Won't be ordering from them again any time soon.
- Pros: Decent food
- Cons: High Delivery Fee, Slow Delivery, Poor Service

We've been using this place as our order-in thai food place for at least a year now. Tonight we ordered for dinner and we've waited 2 HOURS for our food delivery. Besides the fact that it took me 15 minutes to place the order with 2 different people, it took them over 2 hours to deliver the food less than a mile down the street.

This is my favorite restaurant. The food fresh and delicious. The staff are friendly and attentive. They go out of their way to make you feel right at home in this cozy, funky space.
