Outstanding Evening
by WeeklyDine at Citysearch
We had an oustanding evening. All I can say is that we had amazing food and drink and probably the best service we have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Staff welcomed us, truly appreciated our business and actually seemed to enjoy what they do and who they work for. Owners were out and about, talking and laughing with customers...it was as if everybody knew your name. Congratulations to Maxwells for doing it as it should be done. Everybody should try this restaurant...this is the type of family run business that everybody should support...can't wait to go back mid-week for their 3 course dinner for $29.99.

Can't wait to go back!

I brought a party of five friends to Maxwell's after hearing great things about the restaurant from a colleague. We were greeted warmly, and seated promptly at a great table in the back. Our server was friendly and accessible, answering all of our questions and even suggesting some delicious cocktails! The menu had something to suit all of our tastes, and even my vegetarian friend had several options. We were also thrilled by the extensive wine list, which the owner personally helped us navigate. The food was amazing! In addition, the exceptional ambiance, service, and quality made it a night that we will all remember fondly! We hope to return soon!
- Pros: Makes everyone feel like a VIP!
- Cons: Wish I could've tried everything!
Absolutely Phenomenal

I took an out of town colleague here on Thursday night. I had made reservations and we were seated promptly upon arrival. You wouldn't know it from the outside, but this restaurant is beautiful on the inside. Their wine list is fantastic and the waitor was very accomodating and friendly. Attentive but not pushy. OUr appetizers (eggplant and a mushroom risotto cake) were probably some of the best I've ever had. The mushroom risotto cake takes the award for best out of the two. I had their lobster, black truffle gnocchi and it was one of the tastiest pasta dishes I have ever had. My husband had the filet and he said it rivaled his favorite steakhouse in Las Vegas (where the steak is over $100). The creme brulee at the end was the perfect finish to an outstanding meal. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates a good meal and isn't afraid to pay for it.
One of the Best Restaurants in Boston
by 123vv at Citysearch
Everyone in my party of five really enjoyed our dining experience at Maxwell's 148. The $33 prix fixe menu was one of the nicest I have seen to date. And the service was unusually attentive (but not overly so) and friendly. We will certainly be back.
Best food and service anywhere
by packy5775 at Citysearch
Maxwell's 148 has the best of its unique brand of fusion cuisine. Every dish is prepared perfectly with a consistently wonderful presentation. Couple this with outstanding service, and Maxwell's is head and shoulders above other restaurants in its class. Maxwell's has a very knowledgeable and courteous staff that really understand proper restaurant etiquette. I cannot say that about many places, both in Boston and in other cities around the country. Its location and ambiance are suprising. The building is relatively small, blending in with its surroundings - a brick building on a strip mall off of a state road. This is not your typical suburban fine dining locale. So one is taken aback that the interior ambiance is in such stark contrast to it exterior digs. The cocktails and wine list are all excellent - marks of a fine restauranteur. The menu often varies as the head chef is constantly trying out new and exciting combinations, so you can't say you've had everything on the menu after a few visits. The price discourages eating there every night, or every week, but with Prix fixe options during the week it won't always break your bank.
Maxwell's is a special treat for lovers of excellent food and top-notch service.
- Pros: Food, service, ambiance, drinks
- Cons: price on a budget
N.Y.C.

This is by far my favorite restaurant. I live in N.Y.C. but whenever I go to Boston on business I make sure to take my clients to Maxwells 148. The wine list is excellent and the staff is very attentive.

Went with my sisters. It was pricey but expected. We ate and ENJOYED our monies worth. The waiters were very attentive-didnt bother us the second you got your food about how it was. Actually waited for you to taste it. The food was YUM YUM YUM. We had the best time. We werent rushed. We got to actually experience our food.
- Pros: Great service, great food, great atmosphere
- Cons: Bottle water $6
Elegant and excellent food, but not cheap. Tell the waiter to take his time!

We went on a Saturday night at 7 pm. Easy parking and seated promptly. The room is outstanding -- its nicely "broken up" by curtains throughout that give the feel of many smaller rooms and keep the noise down. The overall look is quite elegant.
Prices are (in my humble opinion) remarkably high; they aren't simply Boston high, they are top-of-the-line Boston high. Cocktails are $10-15, and it's hard to find wine for less than $60 a bottle.
We thoroughly enjoyed all of the food, oysters and tuna appetizers were both very well prepared, although only 3 of each. The waiter didn't warn us that sharing among our 4 diners wouldn't be easy. I thought the prime rib was excellent - a large portion and very tasty; my wife said that it reminded her why she prefers a filet. Deserts were modest in size, but tasty enough.
My only complaint, and it's not a modest one, was our waiter -- he was constantly appearing and hovering. I was left with the impression that he was trying to "turn over " our table to make way for the second shift. Things appeared and disappeared with such speed, that I didn't feel merely "rushed"; I felt "pushed". Some people may prefer having their plates removed the moment they finish what's on them, or having their appetizers, their drinks, and their wine all on the table at the same time, or getting their check all at the same time as the coffee and deserts are served, but to my way of thinking, that's what I like in a diner or IHOP, not in a fancy restaurant. The waiter hovered so that when one of our party pulled out a credit card for the check, it was scooped up before the other couple had a chance to add their card to the pile. We literally had to call him back to the table.
This may be an isolated case, and I also know that there are lots of you out there who'd rather have an overly attentive waiter than a non-existant one. At $175 per couple, it shouldn't be either/or.
- Pros: food ambience parking suburban convenience
- Cons: rushed service very high prices
romance, business meetings, or just an evening out.........excellence plus!

After easily parking your car close to the restaurant, you're made to feel welcome when you enter. The decor is pleasing, noise level low and the savory food served with elegance.
Splendid additions to the menu appear every week.
This restaurant deserves many accolades!
No need to travel to Boston............we have a winner in MetroWest
- Pros: too numerous to list
- Cons: None
Very Impressed
by stinarenee at Citysearch
All the other reviews are dead on. This place is outstanding. The service is better than even the top restaurants in Boston. The menu has some of the most creative flavor combinations I've seen, and so much I wanted to try! A little expensive but worth it for the quality you get (and Thursday prix fix menu is an excellent deal). Try the lychee martinis.
