Be careful with your bill here

Vinalia has a nice ambiance. Its usually empty, but the food in the restaurant is usually quite good. The staff is hit or miss. One day they are polite, one day rude. I was overcharged and the manager was awful about it. I will not be back.

  • Pros: Good bread

Wine enthusiasts and power brokers find a haven for adventurous, affordable American favorites in Downtown Crossing.

by Eric Grossman at Citysearch

The Scene
Located in the heart of downtrodden Downtown Crossing, this stylish, elegant restaurant is something of a diamond in the rough. The bustling lounge is a favorite with the financial set, thanks to TVs tuned to the market recap and specialty cocktails (with ingredients like fresh fruit and chocolate). Personable servers do their best to help navigate the epic wine list (150 bottles, more than 40 by the glass).

The Food
After settling into the comfortable, warm-hued dining room, most diners experience sticker shock--of the good kind. Nothing on the contemporary American menu tops $20; not even mint-rubbed New Zealand lamb chops with pearl onions and fingerling potato ragout. Lounge lizards enjoy upscale finger foods like wood-grilled pizzas (the wild mushroom, goat cheese and slow-roasted onion is a tangy winner) and crisp fried clams. Warm apple strudel with brown-sugar ice cream stands out among the soothing desserts.

Downtown crossing is closer than you think !

We have been to many restaurants around the city and Vinalia rated way up there. I had friends tell me it was out of the way but I found it easy to find and only steps from several T-stops. It took us about 2 minutes to walk from Park st. greenline to their front door. The lounge was very busy with a mixed crowd of afterwork professionals and a few shoppers (judging by there Macy's bags) The atmosphere was warm and the service prompt. We were lucky to be there on the 2nd night of their new chef and the food was great. we shared the Bruscetta and Lobster Ravioli...Awesome ! The entrees were good although we took some home to save room for dessert and it was a smart move. 3 words: Apple Cinnamon Cigars. They were like mini apple pies rolled neatly and served with ice cream.

I will go back and tell my friends about this not so far away restaurant .

  • Pros: Bar Scene, Wine List, Power people
  • Cons: Parking, No sign on 101 Arch st. side of building
