do NOT go here
by huewalsh20 at Citysearch
this place sux!! no only are the drink week, but the bartenders aren't anything to write home about. the music was boring and my chicken was undercooked. And the so called "bar manager" had no idea how to handle herself in a professional maner and was rude. I would never go here again! Boston has so many other places to offer than this hole!
Good sports/afterwork bar, great location
by beanbagger at Citysearch
I've watched a few Sox games here - and the crowd is usually good. Good place to grab a drink afterwork with local professionals. Not the greatest bar, but definitely worth a stop in - the location can't be beat.
- Pros: Good apps, great location
Yet Another Bad Experience
by RLucier at Citysearch
Despite reading the previous reviews, I ventured out to Lir on Friday night. Big mistake.... Like the others, I was overcharged. Although my total came to a mere $8, my bank statement showed showed that $58 had been deducted from my account.
THIEVES!!!!!
by bigman6 at Citysearch
lir is the worst bar in boston, my friends and I left our cards open and left great tips when we signed at the end of the night. they ripped us off for over $300 in added tips!!!!! they should all be arrested and lose their liquor license. the bartenders are rude...and not in a funny way like at "dicksrestaurant" they seem like they hate their jobs but have no self respect to quit. dont go
Worst Experience
by libraange at Citysearch
So it started as an alright night. Went with a group of people, got a drink and decided to keep my tab open. Went upstairs and the music was alright and just danced with my girlfriends. It was getting really packed and we decided to go someplace else, and this is when things get bad.... I went to close my tab and the bartender told me that she could not find my card. At this point, I am really irritated, because I only ordered ONE whiskey sour and I pointed to the girl who got it for me and had taken my card and she actually had the nerve to shrug her shoulders and say she had no clue. After they searched the whole area for my card, I gave her my ID and asked her to run my last name and to check if she had charged my card on anyone else's tab: AND SHE HAD. My card got charged 60 dollars (i only ordered a 6 dollar drink) and someone else had TAKEN OFF with my card because the bartender was a stupid dumb b*tch who had no idea how to read last names. I ended up having to frantically call and cancel my debit card but believe me, the place is NOT impressive at all. The drink was weak, the bartender (a blonde one who acts really stupid and can't make drinks, and obviously can't read either) basically gave my card to someone else and charged their bill on mine. So if you want to avoid a stressful IDENTITY THEFT situation thanks to really stupid bartenders who cannot do their job, then avoid this place at all costs.
- Pros: None
- Cons: Everything.
Worst Service in the Back Bay
by bobzimmerman1 at Citysearch
Horrible experience. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone - bar staff was rude and employees were very arrogant for no reason at all. Spend your money and time with friends elsewhere!!
- Pros: location
- Cons: service, attitude, price
this place is only still in business because of its location
by sebastian_70percent at Citysearch
the drinks are small, the bartenders are rude, and the food is overpriced. there is not a doubt in my mind that if this bar was anywhere but right between fenway and the pru it would be out of business. the music is always too loud for the mood and they love to make it so dark that you can't see your drink being cleared before you've finished it. the tvs are lousy and be ready to stand at the bar for at least five minutes before the bartenders ask you if you want a drink.
i've been to this place too many times to count and it's always been lame. the only good thing they have is the swing open windows in the front for spring/summer time. and it's not like they're the only game in town with that.
try someplace else.
- Pros: location
- Cons: service, value, ambience
Great service!
by xtinajolie at Citysearch
Lir has the best bartenders in the Back Bay! The service here is wonderful, the food is good, and the drinks are fabulous! I recommend this bar to anyone who wants to have a great time without all the hoopla of a club!
- Pros: Bartenders, Food, Drinks
- Cons: Can get crowded on Friday and Saturday nights.
Great place to catch the World Cup
by fides012 at Citysearch
I caught the first game of the World Cup at the bar and I was pleasantly surprised by the toned down carnival atmosphere one might associate with the start of the world's largest sporting event. I enjoyed a pint and an excellently balanced sandwich with a great view of no less than four TVs, all without having to jostle for space. If you want a place that is going to open early for every single World Cup game where you can enjoy affordable drinks and decent food then Lir is your place. Joga bonito!
- Pros: Ambience, Affordable drinks, World Cup soccer
- Cons: Parking
